- In this video, we delve into a case study from previous years' UPSC Ethics papers, focusing on Rajesh Kumar, a senior public servant in the Finance Ministry, who faces a complex ethical dilemma. The case discusses the potential re-appropriation of funds from the National Housing Scheme (NHS), aimed at providing housing to vulnerable sections of society, to fund two critical developmental projects-a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and a natural gas processing plant.
Our case analysis covers:
Key Ethical Issues: Justice, fairness, political integrity, and public trust.
Rajesh Kumar’s Options: Exploring alternative funding, partial re-appropriation, and advocating for transparency.
This case highlights the delicate balance civil servants must maintain between political pressure, financial constraints, and ethical governance-an essential discussion for UPSC aspirants preparing for Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude (GS Paper IV).

First thought was why not both equally, but then also the payment to international company must be done according to mandate, now even if a request for re appropriation of funds is sent to be approved, politicians wont let it happen, even partial re appropriation would be a task due to their political interests, only way is to redirect funds from other less significant projects, also the toll tax model or as mentioned Vietnamese SEZ model would reduce burden of fund allocation to a lot extent

What are your thoughts on The Dudley and Stephens case?
And what would be the social implications? what would it say about our society?
(in your opinion)
@@beastgamingpie792 can you clarify a few things here:
In the second question, social implications of what? And our society means (Indian Society)
@@ethics101
To clarify:
When I asked about the social implications, I was referring to how a case like Dudley and Stephens might affect societal views on morality, law, and justice. Specifically, what impact would such a case have on societal attitudes towards extreme actions taken for survival? Would it change how we understand moral boundaries or influence legal interpretations in life-or-death situations?
By "our society," I meant Indian society. I’m interested in your perspective on how such a case would be viewed within the context of Indian culture, ethics, and legal systems. How would Indian society perceive such an act, and what would it say about our collective values, norms, and legal principles?
I world absolutely love a short video, with your opinions.
Thank you sir, need more on pyqs please sir
And sir ,shall I give lal bahadur sastri as example for intellectual humility as he resigned his minister post after train accident?

@@FUTUREIPSKAVYAARORA thanks 🙏
Sir there are some case studies which are based on real events like you had discussed one based on faulty airbag manufacturing which had actually happened. So if we know that this case study is linked to that event so should we mention it in the introduction or just stick to the question demands?
You can use such case studies to make a point…
Thank you sir.

Sir do we need to explicitly mention stakeholders in case studies ?
It is optional, not compulsory
Housing should be a priority.

I want to pursue in policy making
