So many times in my life when the going is tough and days are hard, I will blow the dust off my Wendy Matthews CDs and begin my morning with a cup of coffee and Wendy’s angelic voice in my ears. Her songs have comforted me in the darkest times; Beloved, Love Will Keep Me Alive, Halcyon Days, Standing Strong, The Day You Went Away... and this song, Token Angels, would always be the song I play first. I finally saw her live last year, and as she was singing this song, I thought about all of those lonely mornings, all those cups of coffee, those times I sought a moment of comfort and consolation and grace and hope, and found it in her music... and the tears, uninvited, unexpected, just flowed freely... tears of sadness, mourning, of fear that life is flying by so quickly... but mostly, they were tears of gratitude. Thank you, Wendy 🖤
