trent covering the normal (daniel miller/mute) with peter murphy (bauhaus) live... made me respect the guy again... fucking legend of a pairing and tune selection
How did I only come across this today?! Peter Murphy's voice always takes me back to a cozy, '80s, dark, embracing place. Pairing him with Trent & Co. is just fabulous ear candy.
I wish they'd released a studio version of this. It's 30 years this month since I saw NIN in London's Astoria and I'd never experienced anything like Trent's sheer intensity onstage. Back then he created it with violence, smashing keyboards and mic stands, screaming and roaring. But it's so controlled and compressed now that he can create that same menace and intensity sitting at a synth, hissing into a vocoder.
I'd say the lads wanted it like that, all crammed into a little room with cheap folding tables, the 'our first band, jamming in a bedroom' teenage vibe.
So I hope that the radio station hosting this event was WMBR. It was WMBR that broke The Normal onto the Boston airwaves -- in 1978, if I recall correctly. Warm Leatherette and the flip side of the 45, TVOD. Warm Leatherette was my theme song as a DJ on WPRB.
whoa! - I normally find the first time you hear a track that's the best version. This though is even better than the NORMAL original. The sounds and arrangement surpass the original's. That doesn't always happen. KUDOS 😍
Wow, this is like having Johnny Cash dressed as Dracula with NIN. If Trent ever gets bored doing movie soundtracks he should try this kind of thing again.
Honestly, I want to know what kind of juicy kompromat these lucky attendees had on Trent and/or Peter to be able to watch this AMAZING composition...fucking LIVE!
I think it's cool that Trent was able to work with some of his favorite influences like Numan, Murphy, and others. Though I'm a bit more of a Bill Leeb and FRONTLINE Assembly guy myself.

Perfectly stated.
This is pretty much studio quality. Burn the show to a CD yourself. 😃
@@taffysaur I appreciate the suggestion but the audio on this video is nowhere near studio quality.
This does deserve to be a massively distributed piece of art.
This is bloody marvelous.
Then listen to the original.
Oh my god, this entire series is a fucking dream.
Peter's unique voice and Trent's unique Synth - Sound = Together Perfection 🖤🖤
Wow this song takes me back loving Peter Murphy’s voice in this rendition 🖤
Trent is such a wonderful musician I just wish he keeps making music with awesome people!!
THIS IS EPIC!!
I can never get enough of this set! A+++
All these deep voices , I can't. 🥰
I know right
Yep, yep! Fucking right!
so real
So jealous...my voice is all sweetness and light. I want to learn to sound more menacing!
Deep voices can be so sexy!
TH-cam algorithm just anointed me with this little gem. Had no idea Reznor and Peter Murphy ever projected together
I love how the radio company rolled out the "red carpet" two folding tables...for artists of this caliber...brutal...
Sometimes less is more. Stripped down allows more focus on the actual music.
I'd say the lads wanted it like that, all crammed into a little room with cheap folding tables, the 'our first band, jamming in a bedroom' teenage vibe.
I think they said the hell with it and took more profit. They don’t need fancy digs. That’s all they need!
Twiggy especially doesn’t care or need the fancy stuff!
0:33 Trent's reaction at missing his 'warm' mark
😐
Just discovered this. How did I ever miss this? But now I'm found! Awesome!
Fantastic version !!!
The way Peter Murphy sings this, reminds me of the way Ben Orr sings 'Funtime'.
🖤 A fundamental piece of history covered in exquisite fashion by two crucial pillars of my youth! The memories abound!
Well said, well said my friend!!!
This was an amazing tour! Bauhaus and NIN ❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥💋💋💋💋💋
We got sold a bit short here in Dublin on that tour. It was Bauhaus minus NIN. They were still brilliant on their own though.
Saw them on this tour!!! Fabulous ❤️❤️💋💋
With TV on the Radio❤️
Same that is awesome 👍😎😍😍😍😍👏💐
I Love the fly buzzing around the studio.
I wish I was that fly.
The fly was last spotted in Mike Pence's hair during 2020's vice-presidential debate. Quite a fly!

I LOVED the original - dancing to it with lights flashing. This is an AMAZING cover!!!!!
My life feels like it was missing something till I heard this.
I saw the title and never thought it could really be!
Thank you for such a great experience!❤
they have great taste in music. love these old tunes.
whoa! - I normally find the first time you hear a track that's the best version. This though is even better than the NORMAL original. The sounds and arrangement surpass the original's. That doesn't always happen. KUDOS 😍
Best of the series that I've heard so far. Music on all the tracks are badass
Trent Reznor's voice always gets me like 😍
They need to do an electric version of Venus in furs with Peter doing vocals
Omg, I was listening to this on a 45 40+ years ago! What a great cover.
This is an absolute gem.
More songs like this please!
I grew up on Pankow’s version of the song, but it’s so clear that Murphy was destined to cover it. His voice is perfection.
Mind the original version by Daniel Miller 1978!
Grace Jones covered this to perfection❤️❤️💋💋
wow remember this tune from the '80s great cover by TR & the boys
Growing up, I attended several Bauhaus and NIN concerts. My fav: Head Like a Hole. Much respect.
Unbelievably brilliant!!👌
i never get tired of this
That was brilliant.
A masterpiece!
Nice Cover man! I'm gonna have 'warm leatherete ' in my head all day now!😎
Fucking love this track. It reminds me of my own accidents and Cronenberg's Crash of course. Always wear your safety belts kids.
Bloody fantastic!
What a cover! Masterpiece
The Normal would be very proud of you. Awesome. Cheers!
Lucky enough, saw them ×2 in 2006.
Kansas City & Pensacola
I cannot take my eyes off of this
This was magic in the making, kids. ❤
what a fantastic version
/constant shivers down spine throughout this video
Those people in that room.... so lucky!
😔
JUST BRILLIANT....MY TWO MUSIC IDOLS TOGETHER.
That was fucking AWESOME.
Thy should do a project together and play this kinda shit. Man, that performance was beautiful.
lacrahuntington I would go see that show every night!
Holy crap!! i like the original version but this is amazing!!!!
Holy crap this is amazing 🤩
a dream remake come true!
Wow, this is like having Johnny Cash dressed as Dracula with NIN. If Trent ever gets bored doing movie soundtracks he should try this kind of thing again.
Awesome cover
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I saw Peter Murphy in san diego California usa solo tour 95 I think. Very good " the scarlet thing in you"
That guitar effect is killing me softly. I would love a NIN covers album. Anytime T.Rez and Co do a cover, they make it a million times better.
Another favorite. Peace Christo 🤖❤️👽🎶🎶🎶👍🏻🐕🐕
The people there are lucky; I'd grab my socks to be there.
Peter Murphy sounds like Dracula.
He is Dracula
Dracula wishes he was so cool. Murphy is a God - and thats from an atheist.
He wouldn't be the gothfather if he didn't
Encore, Encore, Encore!!!
amazing
Straight from BALLARDS nervous system to my ears-NICE-why is it real art tends to come TRUE?
That’s was really refreshing!
That must have been the Sh.. to be there for that performance!!!!!!!!
Have long loved the original but fractal chaotic catnip!
glad to see the microKORG featured as the vocoder here !
Awesome thanks 4korg poly6& base btw Abba🕺🙏🏽
Woah!... This is great!!
I am lovin' this song... geez!!!
An old favorite song
Peter sounds great on this!
Love it who doesn't love a little bit of Grace Jones but wow this dude's voice is his instrument.
When I watch this performance, I understand why Trent lets Atticus becomes another member of NiN. Their musical chemistry is off the chart.
totally just grrrr LOVE
Very good version of this song! Hats off.
That was seriously hot. I think I felt Gracie and Ziggy in the room, smiling.
Great high school prom song!
very fortunate to have seen both of you guys💋this sounds so freaking C@@L..W@W
Top 20 colab for sure. For those that know. The tune was-is dope.
yup....there it is! Daniel Miller perfected (only with tech)!. Thank you boys!
I love you Trent.
Warm leatherette... that's poetry
YES !!!
Honestly, I want to know what kind of juicy kompromat these lucky attendees had on Trent and/or Peter to be able to watch this AMAZING composition...fucking LIVE!
Lucky people watching in that room
This is genius!
The original version is consensual, this version is assaulting. I love it.
Revealing too much
YEAHHHH!!!! Niiiiiceeeeeeeeeee!!!!!"Warm Leatherette forever!!!!
I think it's cool that Trent was able to work with some of his favorite influences like Numan, Murphy, and others.
Though I'm a bit more of a Bill Leeb and FRONTLINE Assembly guy myself.
don't forget bowie
That annoying fly must be a descendant of the flies in the "Help Me I'm In Hell" video.
Wow. off to check out The Normal now,,,(been under a rock!?!?)
After 14 years I still can't get enough of this version .....So great! You did better than Suzi Quatro!
Best, love it!!!
I imagine Grace Jones would be very happy hearing this rendition.
This hit me hard. Amazing
Best cover ever!
Wow. Always thought this was a Grace Jones original.
Som perfeito!!!!
Nothing could touch the Normal.
