Montevideo Convention ☺️. If an entity already starts acting like a state, it is much easier to *recognize* that de facto entity as a de jure state. Based on customary Int' law, if enough sovereign states *recognize* the de facto state's state practice, it is by that action already sovereign. One can declare itself independent or sovereign but are you acting like a state to be *recognized* as a state? Do you have to *recognize* yourself to be accepted as a de facto state by state practice? The declaration itself does not make a de facto state *recognize* as sovereign, the recognition of other states by customary law and Montevideo Convention does that. That is why Failed states excist, one might be sovereign but does that entity really act like a state that can be *recognized*? @@auggieeast

In 1949, the Mao-led CCP broke away from the Republic of China, which was founded in 1912, and established the People's Republic of China. The ROC lost the civil war to the PROC and took exile in Taiwan.

Taiwan has always been an occupied island nation. It had its own native population but was temporary occupied by the Dutch, Japanese and Ming Chinese took refuse there. People from China moved in from the mainland and took over the coastal area for farming and fishing. The native population was chased into the mountainous interior. Having been invaded does not mean that the island belongs to the invader.

ANALYSIS without learning from TRUE History is STUPID and BIASED.
In 2000, DPP candidate Chen Sui-bian won in a 3 way race with 39% of votes while the KMT having majority in the Legislative Yuan. He SURVIVED!
YET Four Years later, in 2004 DPP Chen Sui-bian won reelection with 50.11% votes when the KMT then had a Unity Opposition ticket - so it was a two candidate race.
The KMT and TPP cannot gang up - the KMT and TPP now hate each other because they could NOT agree on a Unity Opposition Ticket and both party lost.
Four years time, they may attempt to field a a Unity Opposition Ticket but the people already know their TRUE COLORS so DR LAI will win again with more than 51% votes in a 2-way race in 2028.

@@rickdavis2710 In 2008, KMT Mr "Knight" was so friendly with Xi and won a landslide. But high unemployment rate (~4.06% in July) and consumer price index three months after Knight's inauguration were unprecedented, having not been seen in 28 years. The economic downturn caused about 2,000 companies in Taiwan to go bankrupt in the six months following Knight's inauguration, according to a governmental commercial office in Taipei. The Taiwan Stock Exchange also fell to two-year lows in September 2008 Friendly with mainland communists brought economic disasters to Taiwanese since China's labor cost was/is lower.
Under DPP, Taiwan supplied 70% of the world's semiconductor needs.

Why China not claiming Taiwan before they became a country. Before Taiwan struggled the economy no China is claiming that Taiwan is a part of China, now Taiwan more progressive country and major electronics parts manufacturer in the whole world China is claiming for Taiwan.
China claiming also West Phil Sea so far from their shore compared to Philippines because they know that particular region or island are so abundant in natural resources.

India should have also congratulated Taiwan's aspiration for Independence and democratic rule. Though India loves Taiwan, due to geo-political reason and policy towards one China policy, it could not openly announce its support. Eventhough China is stoking tension along LAC of Indian border and string of pearls around our country, India is sticking to the policy which may be subjected to revision if intimidation becomes a threat.
