I’ve owned my 1998 Dodge Ram short bed standard cab 5 speed 2wd 5.2 magnum since it was one year old and 7,000 miles…I’m 41 now and have owned it for more than half my life, never going to sell it. It now has 310,000 miles on it and is still a joy to drive everyday! Nothing beats a manual. Mine also has a 3:55 rear gear but I installed a Eaton trutrac worm gear posi unit and it works awesome….I love reving it out at a light, dropping the clutch and she goes sideways while people look 👀 hahaha. One thing I did 18 years ago was swap out the interior bench seat with a 2004 Chevy standard cab, best upgrade I ever did, so comfortable and I have 5 cup holders. Maybe I’ll make a video of it.
Thanks for this. Putting a NV3500 in my half tonne. But it's an extended cab long bed tho. Not exactly a hot rod. But I'm not a fan of auto's anyway (especially when mines gone to crap anyway)
So I have been to both of these yards, LKQ pick your part or back in the day when it was UPAP lol and 111 Salvage! Some of the best yards! 111 has better selection but for comfort reasons I go to UPYP That trans you picked up at UPYP was one that I had pulled and we were gonna use it on a magnum 5 speed swap, but a friend was saying it would only work for the 4.7 and 5.7 style engines, so we left it! I was wondering where it went lol
Dragon, Crazy. I guess that YOU'RE the one that cut the shifter shaft. I got it welded back together. Did you take the pedals too? That trans will fit any small block Chrysler, thanks for saving me some trouble.
Don't you just hate it when you have to re-jigger something? I miss my old junkyarding days - can't do much of that around here, since most of 'em got in trouble with the tax man or whatever and are no longer open to the public (at least, officially that is). OTOH, we got Fred the GTX out this evening after I got his oil changed and cleaned the winter garage funk off of him. The newly reinstalled Hurst shifter (last guy half-assed it and the damn thing got all loose and wobbly) feels great on that 18 spline. Baby steps, man. We're getting there. -Ed on the Ridge
@@Chuck_House_of_Mopar I (and a lot of others, I'm sure) enjoyed watching you getting Louise back together and functional because we've been there, too. Our Fred is the same; took a lot longer, what with me fighting off cancer several times over the years, but he's about in the same situation as Louise is now - perfectly imperfect, but functional. :-)
Love the series! But only because I’m trying to do this myself. Do you have a big list of all those parts you had to buy for the manual transmission swap?
I picked up everything that I needed from a truck that I got a transmission from in the junkyard. The only things that I had to buy were the flywheel, clutch and slave cylinder and I'm pretty sure I got all of that on Rock Auto. The rear transmission mount is also specific for the manual transmission trucks so you will need that too. Beside the items that I mentioned, you'll need bolts for the flywheel and pressure plate.
I just bought a 5 speed truck. And kept my wrecked truck for parts instead of changing a cab. Lol. Got truck . Almost as much as can would cost.?? Lol. But you must search hard. And have trailer ready. 😮
Do you have any of those rust free Texas doors left? I need drivers and maybe a passenger door. My truck is a 96, analog (manual) window cranks and door locks, doubt that matters but don’t know. I’d be interested in a drivers seat too if you have a gray one with the all vinyl option.
No seats, but I think that I have 2 sets of standard cab doors. Shoot me an email HofM1937@gmail.com I'm not the best at checking that email account but I'll look more often.
Hey brother love the video. Would you be interested in letting go of a transmission. I have searched and searched for a nv3500 but all I can find is reman that cost 1300
Thanks for the interest Tristan, but right now I'm down to just one spare and I have plans for that. They're out there, but they are difficult to find.
Sure will, just make sure that you get the correct flywheel. You can't use a 5.9 flywheel on a 5.2 motor. The 5.2 is internally balanced and the 5.9 is externally balanced.

Very cool, I wouldn't sell it either.
A cluttered brain.
I did this 4 years ago on my 96 sport ..... It made it a completely different truck.... It has power it never had before and way snappier at the pedal
Agreed, this truck was fun to drive any but the 5 speed made it a blast.
Cool it will be fun when its done,i and currently doing this swap on my 71 duster
A manual swap definitely adds to the fun of any car if you ask me. Good luck with your Duster.
Keep watching Brandon, I've actually had this finished for a few months.

Well that's a good reason to swap in a 5 speed. Hope it all goes well.

Nice score.
Would you mind sharing what flywheel you bought for the manual swap?
Yeah, I just bought it off of Rock Auto. Just make sure that you get one for either a 5.2 or 5.9 engine. Whichever one that you have.
Good video will this work in a 95 3.9 I love my truck and it is the same color and it has the same patena. It has the 42rh trans will this work?
I can't say for sure that the bell housing is the same, but I would assume that it is. I'd join a truck forum and those guys would have the answer.

@@Chuck_House_of_Mopar you really know ur stuff man, thanks! really thought this was a pipe dream till I watched ur vid. much appreciated
Kid, I don't know a lot, but some times I'm willing to give it a shot.
Thanks
Can I put the weight from my 5.9 auto flywheel on to 5.2 manual flywheel on to my 5.9 motor ?
Where did this truck come from? Seems to be rust free. Can a driveshaft be straightened?
That's a Texas truck
