I'm so glad that u showed us the 2.4L. I've always wanted to see how a K-series would perform with a dual clutch. I see so much potential here! This is the only 2.4 review.
Thanks for the great review. I drove the V-6 AWD and the 4 cylinder FWD back to back and have to agree with your conclusions that the 4 cylinder seems more responsive, and the 8 speed seems to just work better than the 9 speed, which seemed to be hunting at time for the right gear while the 8 speed didn't have that hesitation. So I ordered the 4 cylinder with the Tech package, Slate Silver/Black interior, and it is scheduled to be built around 3/15/15 in the Marysville, Ohio plant. The dealer, Fox Acura in Grand Rapids, MI, expects to have the car on their property by the end of March. If you live in SW Michigan, I would recommend this dealership. When I bought my 2014 MDX about a year ago and couldn't find a ride to their store, they sent a driver out to the house in Holland, MI, about 40 miles away. They will repeat that service when the TLX arrives. In my youth, back in the day, I spent about 20 years driving various race cars at a road racing course near Clarkston, MI called Waterford Hills Race Course, along with some racing at Mid-Ohio. I wasn't a great driver, but a good one, winning several championships over the years, the last one in 1999 in a 475 HP Ford Mustang. I mention all that stuff to establish my "bona fides" as a driver and I have to say that I really think that Acura has done an outstanding job on the handing and acceleration offered by the TLX. Soichiro Honda's mantra was always to get all the components of the car in balance, with enough power but not excessive power, big enough in the interior but not too big, make a profit but not a killing, so that everything worked in harmony with everything else. He would applaud the TLX. As an aside, the 2014 Acura MDX is pretty impressive too in the handling and power departments. If you like car stories, check out "Forty Cars That Owned Me" on Amazon. Most of my road racing and pro rally experiences are there along with my opinions on what makes a collectable car. The short answer is outstanding styling with adequate reliability.
In my line of work, I drive a lot. On average, 30-35 thousand miles annually. I enjoy driving a luxury car that won't break my wallet. Acura cars suit me perfectly. Sure they may not have the razor sharp driving dynamics of a 3 series or an A4 but that is of little interest to me. I drive a car to about 200 to 250 thousand miles before is get a new one. In my personal experience, no BMW or Audi was able to last this long without spending huge sums of money in repairs. Once my cars hit the century mark, reliability became a nightmare.

***** as long as it gets me from point A to B with luxury and sport it is just fine. Germans having the nicest cars is really subjective but each is own.
German cars don't give you all this for the price and bmw has a lot of hidden costs with the engine. Also if you don't know what's wrong when you take it to the shop they'll charge more than the actual cost.
***** Oh wow, that is like instant kill for me, by chance, did u read reviews and forum posts? Sure I didnt drive those 7ers or S class, but the 3 series, come on... Lexus IS interior is much better than that. Please stop with all that u dont have experience with [fill in the blank]. IT IS THE BMW FOR THE MASS. I guess you were brainwashed by "German engineering".
shiningyrlife i completely agree. I hate the 3 series interior. it feels cheap, looks cheap, and probably is cheap. the IS is 100x nicer. even Acura is nicer imo.
For what your paying this car should be on top of your list, BMW Benz and Audi always charge you extra extra extra for everything!! like for example if you want hid headlights, heater seats, iPod adapter, etc etc you have to pay 3000 or more to have those features, at the end this car comes with pretty much everything even on the base model. Great job Acura!
Thanks so much for also reviewing the I4. You've made me a lot less concerned about the lack of a 6MT model. I'm still kind of hoping for one, but it sounds like I could live with the auto.
I have the 2013 Honda Accord Sport CVT. I consider it luxurious, sporty and premium in my eyes. I got it at 23k and it has fog lights, blutooth, rear view camera, infotainment system, dual climate control, real leather steering wheel and transmission lever, A Sport mode, Paddle shifters (if you like to use them), high quality black seat material, 18 inch stunning alloy wheels, dual exhaust pipes 189 hp and 182 lb ft of torque etc. It has everything I am looking for in a car. In actuality this TLX is not worth the exorbitant amount of moola! Where I live it's always sunny and hot practically year round so I don't need a sunroof (I hardly even know it exists anymore in my moms 2009 EX Accord), I like the satisfaction of cranking my own engine (don't need push to start), Right turn lane camera (that's what I have mirrors for), heated seats would be nice feature to have but it's not a necessity. Yes, I would never give up the Honda Accord Sport for this!
Nice review, thanks. For those who keep insisting that this is just an expensive Accord, I owned a '13 Accord V6 for 9 months and I can tell you without a doubt that it is nowhere near in the TLX league. Horsepower isn't everything.
I absolutely love your reviews and I'm a huge fan! And I know you may never respond to little old me but thank you! Go Acura!!!!! (Currently 2013 mdx owner)
I couldn't agree more !! I LOVE Acura (I lease them), and I also had test-drove the TLX, and was SUPER impressed !!! I now drive a 2013 TL, and although I LOVE this car too, the quietness (not to mention the handling), was quite a surprise on the TLX !! I WILL be getting the TLX "VERY" soon :) THANK ALMIGHTY GOD for ACURA !!!
I'm actually pretty impressed with the new TLX and would probably consider the 4 cylinder model even coming from a V6. I wonder why Acura didn't also pair the V6 with this transmission would have kept costs down and made for a sportier drive. (Also on the wheel spin front not much can top my ES350 with 215 width tires, no idea what Lexus were thinking). The only thing I wish the Japanese brands would bring over is the diesel models. The German brands still completely own that territory and despite the excellent fuel economy of the TLX 4 cylinder the German diesel engines offer better fuel economy (and more power).
RedLine Review do you perfer the tsx or the tlx? I test drove the TLX at the dealership and liked it. the Tsx has this amazing feeling where i dont ever want to let it go. so hard to choose!!!
Acura should have made the Advance Package available on the 2.4 model! Why can't I get all the tech goods with the better driving and more fuel efficient 2.4 engine!? Crazy.
been very happy with my base 2010 I4 TSX its handling/performance has definitely gotten me out of some close calls. :) This TLX looks like a no brainer for me, 2016 will be the one I go for.
this vid helped me choose the 2.4L over the V6 3 years ago. still lovin this car and the transmission. in econ mode its like a limo ride smooth as butter. in S+ its quiet peppy... 😈
This car really needs to offer a heated steering wheel in the US. This is a popular option in cars of this class and this is the ONLY one of it's class that doesn't offer it. Overall, it's a nice improvement. It seems like they caught up with the times. I do wish they gave the gas-only RLX an SH-AWD option.
For those of you 6 feet or taller, the Hondas and Acuras have recently given us less leg room, including this TLX. It's the only negative I found with it when we test drove the TLX
Thanks for offering the review in both 2.4L and the V6. I have read from many sources that the "2.4L is better to drive." Meanwhile, I am also considering the Mazda 6GT. 2theRedline, could you provide your opinion: Acura TLX w/ 2.4L vs Mazda 6 Grand Touring.
Good question... and tough decision. We like both vehicles equally well. The Mazda will be less expensive but it's also not a premium brand. The Acura feels and drives slightly better, we do feel the Mazda looks better but it compares more with an Accord. The TLX has a much better engine and transmission combination, so it will be quicker than the Mazda and fuel economy should be similar. Between the two, we'd go with the TLX and spend the extra money. The Mazda6 has a very dated infotainment system and we like the sportier driving dynamics of the Acura more. Just be prepared to spend a bit more as well, but if you're on a budget, we wouldn't fault you for choosing the 6.
Very nice review, the 2.4 is definitely the better driving car, feels very lightweight and nimble in the city, and has more than enough power on the highway. I don't know about 0-60 but I timed this car hitting 0-50 in 5.5 seconds (Sport mode) which feels plenty fast. The engine just loves to rev and it is a blast to take it to 4000-5000 RPM. Please do a similar review on the 2018 TLX base model, would love to know if performance has improved vs. the 2017 model (everyone is reviewing the A-spec but the base model is what most buyers will probably go for).
Yeah the TLX appears to be the "mature" car over age 30 and who has a well paying job....then again each to their own. A well paid man may decide they want a small and nimble Acura. :/?
I honestly like where Acura is going right now. If they went to an AWD only system, they could place themselves between Subaru and Audi and differentiate themselves from Honda and other brands. They have the performance ability and the aftermarket to support the Rally scene, as well as the mundane ideals that appeal to regular consumers.
Andres Santana It's incredible. I got mines in white because the contrast of the white/black accents in the car makes it looks really really good and sporty. In all the other colors, it looks quite plain and conservative. All the safety features, power, fuel economy and ride quality is why I chose it (I got the v4 with tech package). The ride is very very smooth and super quiet. I used to not like driving but now I drive my TLX every chance I get because it's so fun and comfortable to drive. The V6 has a lot of power but it was too jerky for my taste and the torque converter in the V4 is what makes the ride exceptionally smooth. You should go test drive it to see if it's the right car for you.
I have been shopping for cars and always stumble upon your reviews. Just realized you're in the DMV area after seeing familiar roads and that rock creek parkway intro lol
Great review as always. The only thing that can make me mot get a TSX or an ILX is their hidden exhaust. You talk in your video that this can be upgraded. Do you have a suggestion on how to make the exhaust visible on both cars without altering the rear bumper? Thanks
Love all your reviews and how you break it down ,the best out there today.. I have 1 request though , please add the stereo system in your review ,us men are interested in what kind and how it sound if we laying over 30 grand ,, thanks..
The volume during the intro is/has been a few decibels louder then the audio for a little while now. I always have to turn down the volume on the iPad or TV when I'm streaming it. Best reviews around though!
Thank you for an awesome review. I always enjoy watching your opinions. I am in the market for shopping either lexus gs 350 or a brand new nx 200t f-sport until now. I start to lean towards acura tlx v4 just because i can save a bunch. I currently have tsx and have no complaints. I wanted to try lexus for the first time but i guess i am meant to get stuck with acura products. Hope acura had a convertible tlx however i dont believe it will happen any time soon. I just got a pilot touring for my wife and absolutely in love with it. With tlx i know honda will bring me another grand slam. Thank you for fixing my decision on my next vehicle with a great review. Made my day easier.
@@Rama_248 gf has a civic 2020 cvt. Annoying af to accelerate even modestly. Just a constant whine. Also supposedly expensive to replace as you replace the whole unit
Practically speaking, who needs a 6 speed manual when you have the 8 speed DCT! Those shifts are faster and crisper than even a professional driver could achieve with a manual. And since most of the people in the world need to drive their cars on clogged highways/roads to get to work to pay for their cars why would one want to be depressing a clutch and rowing your own gears during your daily commute?
I think of Acura as more of a premium brand than a luxury brand but they're really starting to impress me. The new TLX reminds me of the First gen TL, the smaller engine (5cyl back then) is the more sporty model.
Very good review... I'm looking to buy a new mid size-car soon but I've being looking at Chrysler 200c with its cool shape and now this Acura TLX 2.4. The 200 is a lower class car I know, but is this Acura worth the extra 5000-7000 dollars? If money is not an issue, what car is the better choice or value 2theRedline? I know Acura will be more reliable but the 200c is nicer looking on the outside to me than the AcuraTLX and that Pentastar V6 is awesome but I'll go with the Multiair 2.4 if I went for the 4cyl in the 200c.
We weren't too impressed 2.4 multi-air engine and 9-speed auto combination in the Jeep Cherokee but haven't driven it yet in the new 200. The 200 V6 is better but there were times where we felt it had too much power and it would overwhelm the front tires constantly. The TLX would be our choice if you can swing the additional cost. It feels more expensive, handles better, has a nicer interior with more features, and you'll just enjoy a better ownership experience.
Rudy F The faux leather feels very nice, don't forget that all the German rivals use the fake leather as well and require you to get a 3-4 thousand dollar premium package to get the real stuff. Acura throws in Navi, upgraded audio, driver assistance tech, and more for the same money.
Rudy F I wouldn't worry about real leather versus faux. My VW has faux leather and after 3 years, it still looks brand new and is equally soft. It's also hard to scratch.
Total interior volume makes this car officially a Compact sedan not Mid-Sized, based on EPA standards. This TLX is a whole new incarnation, it is neither the TL or TSX, it really is a combination of both like Acura has stated....
I went to test drive one today. I drove the I4 model because Im trying to get a car with better gas mileage than my G35. It wasn't as slow as I expected a 4cyl to perform. I could really feel the rear wheel steering too and thought the ride comfort and interior was very good. I got offered a great lease deal so lets see. Im definitely going to miss the RWD, and the manual transmission my G35 has shes getting old and i just want a comfortable cruiser now.
For all the great things he said about it (and I'm not too big on Acura) you choose to critique that. Mercedez still uses that horrible number pad dial in many of the new cars (except the new C class). don't be a troll but i guess of all things a nice looking display is important to you and not the driving mechanics, premium cabint and bang for buck....
I can almost guarantee a type S model will make its debut again in the next year or so. More aggressive styling things like that maybe a 3.7 engine option
I just bought a used '15 model...and I love it. one feature you missed is the 3 way rear camera when you push on the center control knob. Pushing the know gives you a different view from the camera including looking straight down. Otherwise a great review.
great review! maybe I will come back to Acura with this TLX. I just hope Honda will offer that 8sp DCT to all of its cars especially the Accord coupe and 4dr sedan. Even the civic and specifically the Si.
2theRedline I think that would be a bad move for Honda especially when they still offer 5 sp manuals and other automakers are past that. Also they still dont have a V8 or RWD in their lineup and really only 2 options of hybrids...they used to be the leaders in innovation and tech and now they have fallen behind Hyundai and Kia...of course this is just my opinion of an outsider looking in.
Forget it about RWD it's not that much of a advantage of a FWD car hence why they haven't done it. Plus people buying these cars do not care if it's FWD AWD RWD hell they don't care if it's 1WD most people (not all such as car enthusiasts) just want a car to get to point A to point B.
Jay Thomas I have the I4 version. Reason I got it is because the transmission is amazingly smooth which creates a really comfy ride. There are absolutely no jerks anywhere from the shifts.
When will you do the V6 SH-AWD review. I'm dying to know your comparison in which one is better purchase between the 4cylinder & V6 SW-AWD. I'm looking into seriously purchasing this car later this summer.
Waiting for your V6 AWD version review since I live in PA, and won't buy FWD anymore. Need to decide if I will get an Acura TLX AWD or Infiniti Q50. I currently drive an Acura TL FWD, and love it but it is horrible in the snow. Thanks for a great review.
I wish you could get parking sensors on the 2.4. That's a standard feature on a lot of it's competitors with a tech package, whereas blind spot is usually extra. I'd rather swap blind spot for rear parking sensors!

This guy is the best car reviewer hands down !! 👍
I sat in the civic ex and it has more options vs. The a3 or cla
***** show me a German car that offers what this vehicle offers at 31K, and DCT is real nice as well.
***** Oh, Honda-grade, then Audi is just beef up VW
This car looks SOOO much better in person.
Absolutely fantastic car. Just bought the 2.4L with direct-injection engine.
Thanks so much for also reviewing the I4. You've made me a lot less concerned about the lack of a 6MT model. I'm still kind of hoping for one, but it sounds like I could live with the auto.
Glad we could help you out. We're still holding out for a 6-speed model as well, but a DCT is a worthy alternative for sure.
For a 4 cylinder, its sounds fantastic!
They really should've figured out how to use this 8 speed in the V6
We appreciate your support and thanks for watching :)
The standard alloy wheels of the 3rd generation TL on this car would look AMAZING
Just test drove it. Smooth, compliant ride and it definitely looks better in person. Wasn't all that impressed with the performance though.
Acura should have made the Advance Package available on the 2.4 model! Why can't I get all the tech goods with the better driving and more fuel efficient 2.4 engine!? Crazy.
It's probably because the weight that the package would put on the car just a guess.
been very happy with my base 2010 I4 TSX its handling/performance has definitely gotten me out of some close calls. :) This TLX looks like a no brainer for me, 2016 will be the one I go for.
this vid helped me choose the 2.4L over the V6 3 years ago. still lovin this car and the transmission. in econ mode its like a limo ride smooth as butter. in S+ its quiet peppy... 😈
Great review. I drove both the 4cyl and V-6. As someone who isn't a car expert I was more impressed with the 4cyl as well.
The opening music is excellent, if only it were a little quieter. In my opinion, Tobu makes the best EDM music.
You're on fire with these reviews keep it up!
great review as always. Your reviews are always very thorough and cover things that are important besides the HP numbers, 0-60 times, etc.
one best youtube reviewers
Great review. Love the 2.4 + 8DCT combo on this car!
A 2.4 hitting 5.5 on a 0 to 60? Never.
@@henryquevlogsss2108yeah my 2015 2.4 TLX does it in 7 seconds flat, my old 2010 TSX V6 hit 5.8 so yeah now way it does it in 5.5
Yeah the TLX appears to be the "mature" car over age 30 and who has a well paying job....then again each to their own. A well paid man may decide they want a small and nimble Acura. :/?
VTEC just kicked in yo!
Test drove the tlx last friday. It's amazing.
TL & TSX was life!!! I'd rather buy fully loaded accord before buying tlx.
2015 TLX is definitely my next car. Lexus IS mpg ehh not too great. Thank you 😄
Just bought mines today, what an amazing and comfortable car :D!!!
How do you like it?
+SirChocula I'm glad you like it, I'm looking at maybe getting one soon, although for future reference its an inline 4
SirChocula I'm actually 14 lol
+Fernando Leon thanks for the correction, always been a habit typing V instead of the I :)
Music in the beginning hurt my ears
I was thinking of getting a Lexus GS350 but this Acura TLX cant be passed on.
Lol I like how the intro revving is a cvt
I heard cvt transmission is terrible
@@Rama_248 gf has a civic 2020 cvt. Annoying af to accelerate even modestly. Just a constant whine.
Also supposedly expensive to replace as you replace the whole unit
i drove 2018 TLX 2.4 the Dul clutch is amzing i fall in love with the ride i drove DSG much better the audis trans pulls strong
Someone at my work has a TLX...I really really could see myself getting a TLX 4 cylinder when my Escort dies.
Damn, if only they made a turbo version of this with over 300 hp, SH-AWD and the prototype's styling. I would be all over it.
Acura TLX needs a turbo four cylinder with at least 260 hp. That would really make it a sports sedan.
What a nice review... thank you!
my daughter just bought one in white...
Truly excellent review. He speaks a little fast but there is so much good information I just replay parts I don't catch the first time. Great Job!!!
I think of Acura as more of a premium brand than a luxury brand but they're really starting to impress me. The new TLX reminds me of the First gen TL, the smaller engine (5cyl back then) is the more sporty model.
I bought this car last year I love it 😻 no complains
Too bad the base TLX doesn't offer leather because I hate having to dish out another 4k just to get leather but I realize its a package deal.
Rudy F The faux leather feels very nice, don't forget that all the German rivals use the fake leather as well and require you to get a 3-4 thousand dollar premium package to get the real stuff. Acura throws in Navi, upgraded audio, driver assistance tech, and more for the same money.
OK Thanks.
Love your honest and thorough reviews, subbed.
Excellent review. The best of the genre. And, Excellent Car.
Thank you for sharing an outstanding review!
Good review, the car seems like it would be a good investment. Congratulations to Acura.
this is a great car. im so happy that acura got something right for once
Im definitely going to miss the RWD, and the manual transmission my G35 has shes getting old and i just want a comfortable cruiser now.
you can get the v6 model its only like 2 mpg different so you wont notice it to much haha
That 3-color dot matrix display in the cluster is identical to ones used in a 15 year old Mercedes. Great job Honda!
For all the great things he said about it (and I'm not too big on Acura) you choose to critique that. Mercedez still uses that horrible number pad dial in many of the new cars (except the new C class). don't be a troll but i guess of all things a nice looking display is important to you and not the driving mechanics, premium cabint and bang for buck....
only on the base model.
You give good reviews. You always seem to answer my questions.
good review been waiting for this car review
Trying to decide between 2020 TLX 2.4 base or 2020 Honda Accord. Having a hard time deciding which car is better
Appreciate any advice
When can Acura clean up their monstrous interior
I can almost guarantee a type S model will make its debut again in the next year or so. More aggressive styling things like that maybe a 3.7 engine option
I'm waiting for them to expose the exhaust tips again lol.
It's the perfect car. They just need to put the dual clutch for the V6 and it would be golden.
This is the engine that should have been in the civic si with an 8k redline.. would have insane.
I just bought a used '15 model...and I love it. one feature you missed is the 3 way rear camera when you push on the center control knob. Pushing the know gives you a different view from the camera including looking straight down. Otherwise a great review.
What price did u pay? I'm shopping for one possibly.
Im shopping for one as well. They come at 19k to 20k at carmax.
@@kriziaeloraf3581 They still bring that price 4 years later. I'm looking at a 2015 w/68k for $19 at a dealer
I would love to trade my current tl for this tlx or the ilx same 4 cylinder 😍
lol an elegant way to say " VTEC KICKED IN YO "
great review! maybe I will come back to Acura with this TLX. I just hope Honda will offer that 8sp DCT to all of its cars especially the Accord coupe and 4dr sedan. Even the civic and specifically the Si.
We have a feeling this transmission may stay exclusive to the Acura lineup. Honda seems to be headed in the CVT route.
Plus people buying these cars do not care if it's FWD AWD RWD hell they don't care if it's 1WD most people (not all such as car enthusiasts) just want a car to get to point A to point B.
stickaman
Old way of doing things.............
This needs a Type-S model. Especially since the front end looks like the 07 TL type-S.
Extremely competitive car
Excellent review! Really enjoyed it thanks!
This car is amazing!! Love the drive to vegas ,120mph felt like 80mph ,
+danny rivera Yea, when I first got it, I was accidentally going around 80-85mph thinking it was 60mph.
Jay Thomas
I have the I4 version. Reason I got it is because the transmission is amazingly smooth which creates a really comfy ride. There are absolutely no jerks anywhere from the shifts.
Best bang for the buck, hands down.
I always wanted to know ... during the 2theRedline intro, what car provides the beautiful exhaust note?
When will you do the V6 SH-AWD review. I'm dying to know your comparison in which one is better purchase between the 4cylinder & V6 SW-AWD. I'm looking into seriously purchasing this car later this summer.
You must get AWD or go with other brand RWD as FWD cars are very boring to drive, Indeed.
Me too!
Awesome Review Of 2015 Acura TLX. 😁
