Take gacha, remove MOST of the cringe (since some Walfas videos are.. eh..) and you get this master piece for memes about war crimes, 9/11 and all sorts of other things !
Ahh, your "puppetry" technique is very clever. When I tried to make a lip-synced video, I took pictures of each individual frame of the character's mouth moving, then used a video editor to sync each frame to each word/syllable--which was SO TEDIOUS!!! Thanks for the advice!
Is there a way to make a more complex character? I wanted to have a scene with Thanatos from Kid Icarus uprising. Seeing how he's anything but average human, it'd be hard, right?
@KorytheMaril Yes. You can make a png character in Gimp, then import them (this is how I made Mushroom Marisa in AUTS ep6). It's a tad more challenging to animate, since it doesn't rotate/move like a normal character, but the results look amazing when they're done. I'll probably do that tutorial next.
Thanks for your useful tutorial! Managed to make a short clip, even made a bit of use of that Walfas Puppetry. I am having some problems with CamStudio though. It may be because I have windows 8. Never-the-less though, this was very useful! Thanks!
@mentaldagger The P button. You can also toggle "Pinned Scene Loading" in Options. Pinning can be useful for keeping objects in place when animating via still-capture software. Use "Untargettable Pin" so you can click through pinned objects: comes in handy when working with darkness or layered objects.
Yep. Any video editor will do. Sure, it's a single layer, but for simple videos (like the frame-by-frame motion comic-style videos), that's all you need.
This helped me a lot. I always wanted to make a walfas sketch and love touhou project since the windows 98 days thank you so much for the tutorial gotta go work and figure out how to animate stuff now ....summer = time= animation now.
GamersGuild Thanks! Also, if you want to know how to animate stuff, look at my live production of Diamond In The Rough or my Walfas Intensive videos, wherein I record myself animating.
@CastlePokemetroid Just the transparencies. For the case of the arms having white edges, that's just a matter of clean-up. I'd recommend using the magnetic lasso tool for carefully extracting things like that.
I cover this is my frame-by-frame tutorial at 2:00. First, remove the initial "Background" layer from the project. Then, if removing the background doesn't work with the object you're trying to extract, go to Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha so you can cut away the background. If you see a grey checkerboard in the background, you've done it correctly.
If I want to make a male character, do I have to start with the Rinnosuke model or can I use a new character with a Rinnosuke hair model? Also, how to you import or make custom clothes skin, like that "Dante" skin you had on that guy with two swords? Thank you very much
Also, can videos recorded with CamStudio work properly on Lightworks on Win7? If I compress with Microsoft Video 1 (CS's default), Lightworks only reads about the first 10% of the video, if I choose CS Lossless Codec it only shows up all green (on a side note, it appears a lot of programs that deal with videos can't read CS Lossless Codec vids), and with Xvid MPEG-4 Codec it shows up completely white. I hadn't the patience and motivation to try the other compressors yet ;3
@Donqco Since I can't tell if you're being sincere or sarcastic, I'll just say this: everything I learned for Photoshop came from editing Half Life 2/Garry's Mod comics, while everything I know about music production spawned from remaking Touhou songs. Even if it's just a goofy little online virtual doll thing, you can learn a great wealth about writing, acting, animating, editing, and audience feedback by doing this. Plus, it's a community to meet people in and downright fun.
Thanks. I got confused and was trying to put the characters behind the objects in the backgrounds. Didn't even check to see if those things were in the object list.
@CastlePokemetroid Print screen is not entirely useless. For YSE, I used it to animate the Rampaging Sakuya parody, then I aligned it in Gimp and animated it in Sony Vegas. It could have also been done in Camstudio, but I felt using raw png files would've had sharper/smoother video (and it did).
Thank you sir. Now I can try to bring some more Walfas vids to the platform? I don't know, I'm an amateur storyteller and it may take awhile before I get enough esteem to post some Sincerely, Firefly P.S. I want to them be at least some sort of refined
@Spaz: Well I've tried recording with Audacity, but no matter what option I pick for audio input (including my speakers for some reason), Audacity just takes whatever goes in my crappy built-in mic :[ How do I set Audacity up so that it only takes audio from my laptop (and not its mic)?
No you don’t: not long after this tutorial, I stopped running create.swf in my browser and switched to Adobe Flash Player Projector, which runs swf files by themselves and way faster than in-browser. Best of all, it’s not effected by flash’s killswitch, so you can still use it.
@mentaldagger Also, if camstudio doesn't work, try AndySnap or some other still-capture software. In fact, I've pretty much stopped using camstudio unless I really need it (raining objects, desktop capture, and so on).
@zappazoey There is an advantage to it: it gives you greater control over the lipsync, the file sizes are considerably smaller, and you can make some REALLY complex animations. My latest project, "Five (Dangerous) Months At The Hinata Inn" will be done mostly with .png files, and you'll be amazed at the insane level of complexity it allows.
P. Also, turn on "Untargetable Pinned" if you want to click through pinned objects. Press [ and ] to switch between objects so you can get pinned stuff.
Don't record audio from Camstudio. Record audio from either Audacity or some kind of Digital Audio Workstation. In fact, if you're working with another program like AndySnap (which is my current go-to program), you can't record audio at all. My method is to record all of the voices first, animate the project according to the voices, then add the missing sound effects afterwards.
Adrian Borja That all depends on your editor. There's music and sounds all over youtube. If you have a mic, you can make your own sounds. You can also finds tons of sound packs online. A simple google search will find most of what you need. Preferably, you want to find royalty-free music, music you can use free of charge: TH-cam frowns on using copyrighted songs (especially extensively), though some publishers are leniant in their usage.
If you can draw, yeah. You can import images, so just import your character. If you want to move their arms and stuff, though, you'll need to save it all separately.
It seems CamStudio isn't recording the audio from my laptop (Record Audio From Speakers doesn't work, it doesn't detect my speakers). What should I do? (my laptop uses Realtek speakers I think)
Well, regardless of how you do it (I’ve switched to png frame-by-frame not long after this tutorial), that’s what editing is for: record/capture one scene, stop, and then change scenes, and then record/capture again.

@@elloquenderoordinario2005 You have two options: animate frame-by-frame using the scene part tool, or animate frame-by-frame using an external image capturing software.

Hello. I was wondering about the bit where where tewi chews while mokou talks (11:00). How were the two shots merged together? Can it be done using Windows movie maker or any other free video editing software?
I have another video for that. The short version: you can hit Print Screen to copy and paste it into an external editor, or you can use a program like AndySnap to take images automatically. In fact, I now use AndySnap exclusively for my current Walfas videos (mainly due to file sizes, but they are more manipulable than video).
