    Also shoutout to Underdog for giving me a great location to shoot this. If you want to draft any of the rookies I talked about in this video (or any video), even before they are drafted, there are Best Ball drafts open right now over on Underdog where you can draft as many of them as you want for 2023. Here is my link, which also has a deposit match up to $100 with promo code "BRETT" if you are interested -- play.underdogfantasy.com/p-brett-kollmann

    Appreciate you taking time and actually doing a good mock for your division rival lol. I wasn’t on the Richardson hype train early on. Heck to me he shouldn’t have even been talked about as a first rounder. However watching his progression on film from his first games to his last shows an insane amount of growth. With Steichen I 100% believe he will be able to get the best out of Richardson. Holding at 4 and taking Richardson is the best move for the Colts to keep their draft capital and taking the highest ceiling players.
    Thank god someone else is actually paying attention to E.J Speed. The kid is a player and makes the most of his snaps. Okereke is a good player but he isn’t someone the team has to have. The main blame starts with Ryan Grigson not building an O line. I realize there were not many strong options at QB1 in the drafts following Luck's retirement; however, Ballard never fully addressed the position but learned a valuable lesson. From Atlanta giving up on Matt Ryan and Wentz never returning to form after injury, you leave those guys on the wire. Go Colts. This comment is a year after your video and 2024 looks a bit brighter.

    For multi-year deals with a signing bonus, it is pretty rare that a team puts a base salary in that is more than $2M from what I've seen. It's a neat way to balance out the guarantees you'd expect to see, but doesn't get done in practice all that often. I know that Gilmore contradicts that point, but he was also an mid-April signing and 32.
    Why take on a $5.5M Mike White cap hit when you could have just kept Nick Foles at $3.6M?
    You can keep Buckner and Foles on the same contract and still do everything listed here with $4.5M to start the season.

    Absolutely love every move here. A few things I would tweak and also a few things I fear:
    -We need to cut Kenny and get out from under the contract. I love the guy but it didn’t seem like he wanted to be here at the end of the year last year. He also can’t cover a good slot WR and he can’t play outside
    -I am AFRAID that both Nelson and Leonard are never going to live up to the fat contracts we gave them. Both are fantastic players and are on HOF tracks so far but they play at two non impact positions on the field. A guard and an off ball LB are not the difference makers on the KC or Phillys of the NFL. They both deserve another year but I’m VERY worried especially about Leonard and his health.
    -I know Okereke may just be too expensive to keep but as of right now he’s the only LB we have that can cover the pass. Speed and Franklin both stuff the run very well but Okereke can take the RB or TE so I would love to see if we can’t maybe keep him pending us cutting Kenny.
    -I also LOVE the AR15 pick. He has easily the highest ceiling of the class and pairing him with Steichen is a dream come true.
    All in all great video my man!

    As a Colts fans, while I am absolutely a Richardson skeptic, I do deeply appreciate the thought process and reasoning behind "what do you do if you get outbid for the first pick.
    I think there's a very real world where Houston goes to 1 and, at that point, I like Stroud but don't know if he's a guy I would trade up for. So many mocks have a trade to 1 as a fait accompli that I don't see many folks talk about what would happen if that wasn't the case.
    I have tons of red flags on Richardson, but if I'm gonna bet on a wild stallion with horrific accuracy, I'd rather go for him than Levis. It's wild that a QB that plays as poorly as Richardson would go at 4th overall, but I see the process behind it.
    Plus, having someone so dang raw and keeping your 2024 1st would potentially put them in striking range of Harrison Jr., which would be a Jim Irsay wet dream.

    The problem with getting Anthony Richardson is that he does not appear ready to start, especially not on a team like the Colts. He would need someone to play behind for a year but I don't know who the Colts can get where that would work out. I think the smartest move would be to trade with the bears and get bryce young or cj stroud.

      I think Mike White as a Bridge QB is good enough (which is what Brett Had the Colts do here) to just be a dude playing the QB for a rebuilding team.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W ปีที่แล้ว

      Ballard would EASILY green light getting a back up QB who has experience starting games and playing well in structure. Trading up IMO isn't worth as there are more holes to fill on to the roster especially if they want to not only play 2nd fiddle to the Jags, but ultimately beat them as they keep getting better on offense.

    Quite surprised you'd have Indy taking Richardson at number 4. He's quite raw and given Indy's tendency to go for older, more established QBs in recent history, it makes me wonder if they'll be capable of giving Richardson the development/coaching he needs. Figured the Colts would choose the "safer" pick of Levis. But your rationale makes sense. It'll be interesting wherever Richardson goes.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W ปีที่แล้ว

      If Ballard has his way and Levis interviews well, he's probably the Colts guy on draft day (barring a trade up situation).

      @@t4d0W Ballard loves athletes. Woods, Pierce, and Cross were all 9.8+ RAS guys. I'm sure he'd be on board with an athlete like Richardson, especially if Steichan wants him

  • @AaeroIAm

    Colts fan here, and I actually really dig this. The Okereke situation has been my biggest question mark - mainly because I have no clue how Shaq looks after the injuries. Agreed on Speed though, he was awesome last year, so I'm okay with that. Agreed on keeping Parris and Chase along with extending Pittman as well. JT is an interesting thought exercise too solely in the vein of helping out the young QB.
    As for the draft, Richardson is my personal QB1 prospect, so I LOVE that. My gut says Stroud will be our guy, but I'd really, really love Richardson.

  • @miniHAWKTTV
    @miniHAWKTTV ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thoughts on the Colts throwing a Curve Ball and taking the best EDGE or Corner available at #4 and then taking Hendon Hooker in the 2nd Round? Saves money by not re-signing Yannick if they go EDGE and gets a top Corner to learn AND pair with Stephon Gilmore if they go CB.
    Hendon Hooker seems to be very underrated. I get he's older, but man. Him paired with Steichen makes as much sense to me as Richardson does, whilst locking in a STUD at another premiere position with #4 Pick.
    Then trade some later round picks OR trade Ryan Kelly to get back into the 2nd Round for Avila and continue your same draft you have here.
    I'm all for the Colts trading Ryan Kelly to save Cap. They have Danny Pinter who had actually played better more consistently at Center than Kelly last year, even though he was ASS at Guard for whatever reason. So trade Kelly and a late round pick or 2 for a 2nd Round pick and lock in more players of need.
    I liked your draft here, but curious on your thoughts of this scenario? Premier EDGE or CB at #4, Hooker in the 2nd and some sort of trade to get back into the 2nd/3rd to get quality O-Line/DB/LB/WR help? Feels like shit I'd do in Madden, but it makes a lot of sense to me for some reason.
    Hooker doesn't run like a damn Runningback like Jalen Hurts did for Steichen this year. But he's pretty mobile, and his arm talent definitely has a higher ceiling than Hurts in my opinion. His pocket awareness/movement may not be like Richardson either, but I still think he could be damn near just as effective as AR15 while locking in a GAMER at another big-time position of need.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W ปีที่แล้ว

      Hooker seems like the most Ballard move to make if he really wanted to lose his job. Being a good GM means actually taking big risk/rewards at picking a QB in the draft, one thing which Ballard has never put himself in a position for. He wont keep his position if all he ever did was win out finding long term gems in secondary fringe positions (LB, OG, RB, DT somewhat) but not address long term situations for positions that matter most (QB, EDGE, CB, WR).

    I'm writing the first half of this before watching. I know what I want personally from the Colts, but I also trust Brett a lot so really want to see how he'd try and fix this dumpster fire.
    Watched the video. Firstly, amazing work (as always), Brett. Secondly, I have 2 questions. 1: Why sign Mike White while cutting Foles? Maybe I'm not understanding the math but it looks like White costs $5.5M and cutting Foles saves $2.1M, is White really that much better than Foles that it's worth spending $2.4M on that upgrade? 2: Why Richardson over Stroud? You mentioned why Richardson over Levis a lot, but a lot of Colts fans (myself included) prefer Stroud to Richardson right now, especially after the Georgia game.
    Love the video, Brett, and I'm glad you have more optimism for my Colts than I do. Because man am I pessimistic that this front office can pull everything together.
