Nice video we like the Rose Engine but we know these for making our watch dials as we are watchmakers. We like to see what you have for wood none the less. The machine and your operator skills do produce really nice looking pieces of creative appearances. Thank you, Lance & Patrick.
Active Atom, I'd love to get some pictures of your work to add to my OTBoK page on Guilloché (www.otbok.info/OT%20-%20LnT-Term-Guilloche.html). You can send them to me at this email address : OTBookOfKnowledge@Gmail.com.
I wish I had the space. This is an amazing tribute to the ornamental turners of the past, and an exciting look at the future of ornamental turning too. Wonderful machine and great idea with the MDF, unless it gets wet, it's going to be rock solid forever. And who gets their lathe wet? Lol. Seriously, awesome job!!
Jacob, thank you for your kind words. If you do want to build one of your own, the MDF Rose Engine Lathe 2.0 offers many more features. The directions are published for all to use at mdfre2.colvintools.com. There is no cost for you to use them to build a machine for yourself.
Michael, you should build one. The instructions are at the MDF Rose Engine Lathe 2.0 library (mdfre2.colvintools.com/). The guides are on the 2d shelf.
@@RichColvin I visited a friend last week. He had a small Lindow White RE. It was very nice . I am considering using the parts from my RE and building a MDF RE. There are more parts and instructions for the MDF.
Joshua, I don't know if Jon Magill still supplies these or not. He said he is getting out of that business, but gives the plans for getting the metal parts made. I'm pretty sure he still sells rosettes and other parts. Jon's web site is www.rogueturner.com/root/MDF_Rose_Engine.html.
Joshua, we are going to be offering these again in Sept. 2020 thru ColvinTools.com. We will offer the kit that Jon Magill used to have, all the way up to everything you need including the MDF pre-cut. We are also making the rosettes available there too. As we get into the Fall, you will see some videos made available as it is a slightly different design, including a number of changes that users added over the years to their MDF rose engines.
