Seriously, this was one of the most cruelest Vaults, but it also shows no one had courage to challenge the Vault AI. So messed up. That was pure Fallout.
Well until the end. They did challenge it at the end. Until it was way too late and they ultimately had resigned themselves to dying anyway and four of the five killed themselves in consequence. They were that certain of death that even though they got to live they still choose death given all they'd done to stay alive until that point.
With the FEV Vault at least you know your screwed and its out of your control In this vault they were led to belive that if they didnt sacrifice someone they all would die,only when they were down to 5 left did they accept Dying togeter only to learn it was all a lie,all their friends and family dying a meaningless death, doublely so due to Vault Tec being dead and unable to use that reaserch
This got to be the best and most horrific vault because there’s nothing overly complex or artificial here, no “people on the inside” and schemes, just make people believe that they have to obey a certain rule and see the worst in human nature do the rest. Kate’s backstory still gives me unnerving feeling each time I read the log.

Mentioned on TVTropes, but I figured I’d mention it here, too. Part of the speech includes a line about how one might be destined to sacrifice themselves for the good of all, and another may be destined to drive a really fast car. Both are said to be just as important. Perhaps the line here is trying to hint that sacrifice, is, in fact, not the intended course of action.
I remember going into this blindly and not knowing what was going on till the last second and for someone who has a “Robobrain phobia” like myself I screamed once those walls opened and saw a robobrain, I instantly turned into Tony Montana. I did all the chems in my inventory and went crazy with a rocket launcher in the room. I bury those cockroaches.
I freaked out when the ending slide theme played as I went down that hallway for the first time. But, I was even more terrified when I saw the auto save icon in turn. I went forth out of morbid curiosity, looking out for any traps or monsters. The one thing I thought would happen was that if took my first step entering the chamber itself, I would die instantly. I was partially relieved that didn’t happen but I just couldn’t bring myself to sit on that chair. So what did I do? I left. Even as a lvl 50 Courier with Remnants Power Armor, I just couldn’t do it. I can face Deathclaws, Scorpions and Cazadores, but not the unknown that Vault 11 had in store for me. I took a piece of advice from the Sierra Madre and I let my curiosity go.
So for those who don't know, the sacrificial chamber area scales with your character's level. If you do this at max level, instead you have to fight 2-3 sentry bots as well as 4 ceiling turrets.

Well fought, Courier! Once I learned how that thing worked, I hoarded plasma mines and planted them along the walls before I sat in the chair. As soon as the bots turned hostile the mines detected and neutralized them. The only thing I had to deal with myself was the turrets.
Coming out of this alive was one of the coolest things I've ever done in this game, I felt like a badass destroying all the robots pumped up on so many chems Paladin Toaster in my hand uppercutting sentry bots and turrets.
I dont understand why they waited so long to refuse. There is only so long u can go and so many sacrifices to be made but its just a game so its gotta have some darkness
I think Vault-Tec had a failsafe where the overseer would eventually stop the program and let people out (doubtful but still possible). Their plan got a wrench thrown in it when they elected to kill the overseer first.
It would depend on the group but remember that Vault Tec deliberately picks certain people to elicit a given response. It is not at all inconceivable that certain people would do this to each other. What however I thought might happen with the political blocks is that the an unwillingly 'sacrifice' would in turn kill themselves before they got to the chamber to cause panic but that's the coolest thing about how this story is written. You know how it ends when you first get to the vault, you don't know how it starts.
If you read all those tapes, you would know the AI literally threaten to murder everyone if they dare to refuse, it's easier for them to sacrifice others instead of risking everyone's life.
Vault 11 had some of the most grim writing I've seen in a video game. If you read the tapes left behind, there were all sorts of fucked up scheming that happened every time the voting for the next overseer happened. Definitely one of my favorite and memorable quest that I played.
Unlike the other vaults in the Fallout world. This one sticks to me. I try time and time again to forget it but I can't, the story just felt too real outside the universe. It felt like it could happen in our world in a way, and it probably does. After my first time in the vault, even I come back in a new game I don't fight for my own safety, but to avenge those who perished inside.
In a funny sort of way, I always lament that VaultTec themselves are _looong_ gone by the time the Fallout games take place... Given just how utterly f**ked up some of the sh*t they pulled was, frankly, I would've gladly hunted down those maggots myself..!
I remember when I first found this and when I was watching the slide show. I got this uneasy feeling that something bad was abt to happen so when the voice told me to close my eyes and relax I remember jumping out of the chair and aiming my gun around the room and then when the wall barriers came down I just went to town on the robots who nearly killed me.
Interesting how the method of death is so... Physical. There is a possibility of fighting back but also and an assumption of losing. It's in contrast to something like poison or electric chair. In the comments I'm reading many players ran away because they assumed the death chamber would... Kill you. Not start a fight.
I got curious and went here. I thought it was over for me. Luckily, I had the pulse gun and a stock pile of chems. The pulse gun made very quick work of that death trap.

Like oblivion, fallout 3 has level scaling. Depending on your level, different enemies will spawn.
