Beautiful. Some moves were interpreted but done with power and certainty. I LOVE THE OPENING HALF-MOON STEPS. That's Master Shimabukus' stamp ! Since Sunsu is a combination of all the other Isshinryu Katas, it takes tremendous amount of concentration to stay on track. His kicks were traditionally super fast AND low. Excellent !
this may not be the way i or you others do the kata, but i very seriously doubt if any of you can do it this nice-- so put your videos up before you get too critical of the guy who flies to okinawa and puts his ass on the line for isshinryu
I think it's hilarious that people are actually criticizing this for being a "competition kata" when it is clearly being done IN a competition. That's like criticizing race car drivers for driving too fast during a race. The only thing worse than traditionalists ragging on competition kata is MMA people ragging on competition kata. BTW, to the guy in the video: impressive.
I can hardly believe this is an Isshinryu man performing this kata. Apparently he brought his former style into his new art. That being said, the form was excellent! Well done...
This guy is outstanding - technique is solid and snap is top 2%....of course he could be more powerful but that is a standard shortcoming from most of what I observe online.
I was asking you to elaborate what you meant by body turn is all. We could both mean a completely different concept. And reading your comment again I have gained the context of it.
he IS only punching with the arm and not using the angled body of isshinryu- but never the less is a very good kata competitor. and i would like to see people like him, jim vestal of michigan, micheal calandra of new york, etc compete and blow away the JKF people
Iron foot. You obviously do not train isshinryu. The opening sequence is a standing close exchange of punching and blocking while maintaining contact. Punch block punch block. Feet ready to retreat kick knee or advance. Great close in fighting. Sunsu is one of the most powerful and destructive katas in system. From the timing exchanges and finger tip assaults to vulnerable areas. The grab reverses and angled side parrying to gain access. This is not a great sunsu performance but that kata is ma
Elaborate body turn because if it is what I think you are referring to then you are criticizing the whole system of Isshinryu minus a select few techniques in a select few kata
I didn't say ELABORATE body turn. You need SOME, though. It might also help center his punches. Criticize Isshinryu? Not train in it? I'm an Isshinryu roku-dan.
The thing is, you shouldn't punch with only your arm. Note that in the beginning of the kata how he steps, pauses, THEN punches. You get a "windup" just from punching as you land in your new stance. I'm not saying this guy has no talent - just that his kata is very stylized for tournament setting. I train for combat, not trophies.
outstanding. we need more guys like this to compete on a world-level.
Great form & execution of this kata!

Naihanchi and Seiunchin are not represented in Sunsu. All Okinawan styles of karate do the circular-stepping movements.
@@andysloane79 Good observation. I did not know that all Okinawan styles used circular steps. That makes since since the geography is rocky.
This performance of an Isshinryu kata is an exception to the norm. Well done. I would hope others in our style will take notice.
Very nice Kata. Thank you for representing isshinryu.
I agree with Bill Pogue Nice Kata to go to Okinawa to compete is a awesome thing to do for himself and Isshinryu.

Excelent performance! Great kata!

Great kata of Isshinryu!
I really like your delivery tempo. Great kata performance.
Excellent performance!
Did issinryu in college. this is good. Precise.
Very very good!
I've only been practicing since 1982, but... that looked pretty impressive to me!

Wow, BOW USSSS!

Can agree with looking before turning though

See, I misunderstood you. We are on the same page now. Sorry for the confusion. Wasn't trying to be rude.
Who is this guy? Does anyone know?
His name is Daniel and he is from Lebanon Pennsylvania
Nice Kata kid..
you are ok, but this karate is performed for a tournament...thi's fine for this purpouse (sorry for me english). Javier - Isshinryu Argentina

Soy yo o ese es la técnica del Kata kuu(?zu

Sensei, this is George from Detroit. Please note my comments as ironfoot and let me know if you agree/disagree.

fast, steady but lacking of chinkushi, gamaku and other principles that are to be present in this kata
Roberto Fuentes Post your own video...
i can show you myself if you dont mind
Roberto Fuentes A simple video of you performing kata will suffice.. :)
Performorming forma who? I have a full class in New York City you are most welcome
Roberto Fuentes I see... so you have time to "show someone in person" and post but not enough time to post a simple video.. gotcha.
