Thank you for the foot pedal info. I've had the same issues with my g2. One model rod I build is a bfs/UL casting. The P700-1 xray is a great blank for that but I recently switched to only using Rod Forge blanks. The new forge composite UL series looks real promising as a sub.
Based on what you described this is a light rod not an ultralight rod. UL rods really would max out at casting weights of 1/8.oz and 8lb is heavy line for UL fishing.
NFC classifies this blank as a UL. There is no industry standard so it really depends on the manufacturer. Gary Loomis says it's and ultra light, then I believe him.

False. I have 2 phoenix rods that are 3/8 and ultra lights.
