    Great idea to wrap in front of the guide ring for added security. I am building a 3wt fly rod (1st build for me) and I was wondering about how secure those small guides would be. This helps a lot!!

    I was hoping you could clarify how long after the first coat you put the label on? I recently bought a printer from Larry at LRT group and in the tricks and tips thing it says let it fully cure. Is that ok to do even though you're applying a second coat? I thought the second coat had to be within 24 hours but maybe I'm just being to "by the book" in my head. Thank you for these videos, I really appreciate it! Your work is awesome and the videos are great and very helpful!

    Your stripper guide looks kinda small. What size was it? The CRB kits come with a 30 but how do you know when to use it or to start with a smaller 25?

    • @fdxcustomrods
      @fdxcustomrods 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I base it on the anticipated size of the reel that would be used on the rod. Reel size dictates the loop size coming off the spool, which in turn determines the maximum stripper guide needed.

Great kayak rod when trimmed down to 6'6" and I even use it while wading sight casting redfish in shallow water. I actually like it trimmed down to 6'6" better than at 7'. Try it if you have a client who fishes primarily out of a kayak or sight fishes reds up close.

    Sir I am about to purchase a power wrapper and you hit the key points that I had questions about the Amps and the RBS G2. My first rod I want to build is a 7'6 or 8 foot. It is an old Femwick Pacific Stik Royal model number 1270 s. Would you know a rod company that sells blanks that like this rod or close. Love the flex in this rod.? I just don't like the idea about 7 feet. Also possibly the blank is honey comb color. What color guide thread came with this rod. Trying to get it it as close to the real thing as I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I called Fenwick and they don't make any salt water rods anymore they said. And didn't have any information on this rod. Thank you sir.

    Beautiful work, hope I can achieve that one day. Weird question but, can marble or any thing with colors be done at the TIP of the rod? Any techniques application suggestions to research? Even though that may sound weird, I've always wanted a rod with a florescent or bright white or even a glow color at the tip to see it better in low light conditions, to stand-out. Don't know why rod manufacturers don't take this into account?

    I appreciate all the videos, ALOT I was already going to try! After watching you for days now.. Thinking I had unique ideas 🤦🏻‍♂️ you' hit everything I did and planning and started- NFC (wish i had seen videos first would have ordered a few other blank than i ordered. alot of the same grips, reqoil guides (glad I didn't get that noise with braid), styles 😅 My thoughts was that's not necessary how you do it( for others I've seen) I though why not this.. I'm only following you mudhole, edge, and a few others watching atm. You've already done and shown nearly all on my list 😅 I don't even know why or how I started seeing yours.. North Fork, Recoil guides and C602 action(Ididnt get that on sale didn't understand catalog woth my wife that weekend BF sales) Apologies long just been hitting things back to back... I've already started or placed orders for and waiting also in FL(panhandle), partially disabled and was going to start TH-cam for my starting and experiences so I'll definitely have to reference you now since i see you did! Given the same blanks or some of the same blanks that you've already done real seats colors styles and videos you've been posting I don't know maybe the Lord sent me your way.. truly I don't even know how I just liked how you approach things and taught new.. even what i was going to do with my own cork to try you proved and did....😮 I like in your flake video how you say steal other people's ideas at least ha but at the same time make it your own! It's all custom and no one should get take offense it's all art! I love that That's, how I look at it and that's how I'm approaching it. I thought I was going against the grain and doing something different until I saw your videos ha You also mentioned following other builders that you like to follow. I'd love to know some that have some similar techniques I'm sure I'll find some. Yet you said you'd been watching others who had done some of it already if not a good portion and you add your own, touches changes to it. Lord willing sent me your way to confirm and help conform some Ideas. Already making mental notes of what you say you wouldn't have done. BF weekend also is when Foley guy retiring same setup even, all the tools and offering his knowledge. Like myself you pushing past the "norm" or regular classic basic clean styles.. Truly thank you, stay blessed looking forward to more and rewatching many to help avoid struggles and concerns i had with the higher end blanks...

      @fdxcustomrods thank you sir You don't realize how much of a blessing it was for me to realize I'm not crazy before I do a few as you said going crazy types epoxy cork and marblizing ! I made another comment on your spline video. Can you help clarify the difference or am I misreading or misunderstanding something between what Gary Loomis said and what you're saying is he talking about only lighter rods as some put in his comments versus anything heavy? I look at it two different ways You lose power if you go along the curve. You gain power and evens out the blank if you go along the strong side for the blanks. That is truly the biggest video I have found that makes which side to use the spline on controversial. I do see the points of both stabilizing the rod but also if something bigger hits than what you expect would it not want to rotate to the path of least resistance causing that rotational torque... To add that some other say at the end of your others builds by time everything's on it. The spine doesn't truly matter.. While I disagree with that to a point (path of least resistance?) for like you said rotational force and carbon gets weak if pressure is put in the wrong place carbon is strong in the way it was formed meant to be used directional. I do know that but I am not an expert by any means on carbon and graphite blends and how everybody can be right In a sense of use...

    • @fdxcustomrods
      @fdxcustomrods หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a lot of techniques to cover with one blank, but I would look at the Delta MB 705 or SJ 705 northforkcomposites.com/product/mb-705-1-delta/ northforkcomposites.com/product/sj-705-1-delta/ I recommend the Delta for durability a great price point with the SJ taper being a little lighter. If you are going to be in mostly open water then I would toward the X-Ray SJ 703 ML-EF because it fishing more like a light-ish MH rod. I have 5 rods built on that blank in my boat. I would wait for it to go on sale again, though. northforkcomposites.com/product/sj-703-1x-ray-lmx/

    Hi Capt. Lee. Few questions for you. With the Gen 2, can you elevate the chuck? I assume you can to match the different heights attainable with the CRB roller stands? I like the idea of being able to give myself more room under the blank. I'm torn between buying Alps for the chuck and then customizing with CRB roller stands & adapter down the line... or else going with the G2. I have been under the impression that the chuck carried the most importance. Is there a big difference between the upgraded Alps chuck & the G2 chuck? Thanks for the informative videos!

    • @fdxcustomrods
      @fdxcustomrods หลายเดือนก่อน

      The chuck height is fixed on the G2, but I suppose you could shim it. The G2 chuck is similar to the upgraded Alps. I would lean towards the G2 if I buy another one.

    Thanks for the review. Want to take advantage of the Black Friday sales but having a hard time trying to decide which blanks work for which techniques. The prices make trial and error a little more palatable but don’t really want to build a bunch of rods that don’t work for what I was planning.

      I've got a few more reviews shit, but I wasn't sure how interested you guys were in them. I'll edit and post more of them.

    Did you do this yourself? Also, focus on your breathing during vids. Trust me, you dont want what's supposed to be a vid showcasing your skills to turn into everyone roasting you in the comments

      No, it's a special request for a repeat customer. Roger that in the audio.

    Thanks for the review lot lighter blank than I thought was planning on buying it for a 3/8 to 1/2 oz jig rod guess I’ll have to look for something else

      IT should handle a 1/2 oz jig with no issues. It's a great blank but not at $325. Use code BFAIR and get it for $95 today.

      I built a spinning rod out of this blank, it makes for a great finesse jig, and neko rig rod, I typically throw 1/4oz-3/8oz football jigs on it, sensitive is definitely a step above the X-ray in my opinion

    I have an old GLX spinning rod that has the recoil guides. The noise created by the braid going through the guides really pisses some people off 😂. To be honest I don’t like it either
