My John Deere x380 lawn tractor with the power mulcher & power flow bagger!

  • A quick tour and explanation of the Power Mulching and Power Flow Bagging attachments on my John Deere X380 lawn tractor.
    The coolest feature is that power mulching attachment - it's nice to be able to control that on the fly. I did also get the power flow bagging system so I could pick up clippings and in the fall I will just mow and suck up all the leaves.
    My initial lawn tractor review on this unit is excellent and I really enjoy mowing with this tractor!

      no - it works just fine. You can actually close the mulch kit flap with the electronic mulch kit when your bags get full too.

    Nice, I have a 2019 X380 with 54" deck and am thinking of adding the Power Flow to get it all up. Seems like unless the blades are sharp enough to shave, the amount of suction pickup decreases. It looks like it's 5+ years since you made this, So tell me still really like the Power Flow?
    Thanks

    • @tsr6
      @tsr6  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do - I only use the PowerFlow a couple times a year though. I use it for fall clean up, and for days that I know we’re having company over within a day of mowing (kids birthday parties and such) to reduce the clippings that get tracked into the house. It works well, but I normally mulch the clippings into the grass for normal weekly mows.

    Something to know, if in your fuse box you have a 20amps fuse in position C3, then your actuator depends on it. The red wire on a current x380 has constant 12v while the yellow wire has 12v when the start switch is on. The fuse is for the red wire.

    Thanks for the video. I have the same tractor, 2020 model. Mine will roll forward and backwards further than I like when I take my foot off the pedal. My old JD would stop dead when I took my foot off the pedal. Does yours do that? I’ve taken it back to the dealer three times and they’ve replaced the trans axle twice and it still isn’t right. They can’t figure out what the problem is.

    I bought a x380 last summer. I've called Deere to add the mulching kit and they say it won't work with the power flow. If I want to use the mulcher, I'd have to remove the bagger. Are you able to have both on and use either/or?

    • @tsr6
      @tsr6  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weird... It works. Here's the thing, with the bagger, you "should" have high lift blades to better get the grass to the PowerFlow. Mulching blades dont do this as well, but I will tell you my bagger still performs well with the mulching blades.

  • @rgmail2136
    @rgmail2136 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Considering purchase X384 with power chute and bagger + electronic mulch switch kit (sometimes conditions good for mulching - other times better for collecting debris). Does the power chute option compete with the mulching feature? I understand that taking power chute and bagger system on and off is a real chore. Thanks!!

    • @vbdino
      @vbdino 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They all work together fine. When mulching, the power chute is just pushing air. Actually removing the bagger and powerchute is easy but when you get used to it. I don't expect to remove it myself often.

    • @tsr6
      @tsr6  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bagger + mulch kit is a dream. I mulch most of the time. I bag in the spring, fall for clean up, and the if I have company coming over that will be in the lawn. I also bag to pick up when I de-thatch the yard.
      On the mulch kit, I usually try to mulch, but I open the chute pointing away from my patio and driveway so the mulch kit doesn’t blast these areas with clippings (blowing it into the yard) - so that’s what I love about doing it on the fly.
      The two kits don’t compete with each other too much. I know I’d get slightly marginally better bagging performance with high lift non-mulch blades - but not enough to make it worth swapping blades back and forth. I’m very happy with the mulch and power flow when they’re needed.

  • @amateurastromerNate

    Is the spindle that hooks into the power flow a double (one on top of another)? I only ask bc I have a 345 I'm considering getting one but I don't see a spindle to hook it up to. I know this was an option for this mower but I think it might have to have a customized spindle near the side chute

    • @tsr6
      @tsr6  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there’s another pulley added on top of another to drive the power flow belt.

    • @tsr6
      @tsr6  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do use the mulching blades all year and with the power flow. I’ve heard it’ll move more clippings with the high lift blades - but I mulch 90% of the time. I only bag if it grows too much, if I’m out of town and miss a mow - or for fall/spring clean up.
      I have not touched the reverse switch yet. I don’t really have a concern using the button.

    How well does the system work with a lawn full of maple leaves? Do you have a fall in your local, or are you in Calif. where the weather never changes from summer? I'm in the north east, and deal with fallen leaves every season. Appears those bags would have-ta be emptied frequently.

    • @tsr6
      @tsr6  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m in Wisconsin. Grass only I dump these twice on a normal cut. With leaves only I dump them 2-3 times. Leaves and grass 3-4 times.
      I do use this system to pick up and suck up my leaves.

      joe quillun hey joe..i have the cheaper L120 series double bagger in COnnecticut and have a crap ton of silver maple in my yard. About every third day during leaf season I drive the yard and it works really well. I don’t know how the power flow system compares, but with mine, you want to wait till afternoon when dry or the chute will clog, stop, disconnect the two chutes, throw your arm down the hole repeatedly pulling out fistfuls of leaves. Takes about 40 seconds of down time. Oh, and wear a hoodie if you use my version, because blowout clippings are always flying out. The power flow system appears to be far, far superior.

    Do all the x series have the same vac bagger system?

    • @tsr6
      @tsr6  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my understanding - yes. The smaller tractors with two-blade decks can use a chute (D-series) - but with the X tractors it's all with the Powerflow bagger system, which works pretty well. I just have to re-level the deck when I switch between bagging and side-exit/mulching.
      I normally mulch, but I love the powerflow for fall leaf pick-up, and when I know we're going to be using the yard right after mowing.

    • @dan4466
      @dan4466 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tsr6.. No they do not. The first X series 300, 320, 360 maybe another have the Edge deck. These tractors were made from 2008-2015. They then started the second series x330, 350, 370, 380 and so forth in 2016 with the new Accel Deep decks. They changed a couple things enough so they don’t attach. The bagger will mount on rear though. It’s the power flow unit itself that doesn’t work. I know because I had to purchase one from my dealer after purchasing the first series one used.

  • @High-Tech-Redneck

    IF you buy everything, spending 5 to 6K...........is it a pain in the butt and should you just get an easier system?

    • @tsr6
      @tsr6  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a little bit of a pain only if you have to put it all on and take it all off. I have to only because my shed door is about 2” too narrow with the power flow hanging off the side.
      I will likely eventually modify my shed (door may need replacing in 2-3 years)
