It's alright with the right amount of fixing up, I believe Mercedes-Benz just painted the standard C-Class dash and centre console. Thanks for no cringey erection jokes about the roof, unlike Bob the Trailer Tent.
Not my cup of tea car but if I was to get a reasonable price convertible a late Toyota MR2 or 1990's MR2 would be on my list. Although a more expensive convertible would be anything classic from the 1930's-1990's (yes 1930's sports cars are cool, especially when pushed on a racing circuit).
Don't worry about baldness mate. It hits most of us eventually. I have hair down to the small of my back but it's starting to recede faster than the French army :D
Has this car been on the channel before? The reg looks really familiar. Being a Birmingham plate maybe it’s one I have seen locally maybe?

I’ve got a rare manual slk 320 with 8000miles on it. It’s like new underneath. Got it for my mum abs she doesn’t like it so I’ll have to re sell it. She can’t drive auto, old people set in their ways. Great car overshadowed by BMW z3/4, Boxster etc. But the hard top gives it way more refinement, it’s a good cruiser, it’s not a sports car but most people would be better with the SLK, much as I love a boxster.
SLK's may not be the most Sporty, but great for Road Trips, including 500+ mile days back across France or down from Scotland 👍
Fab, always fancied one of these and now they are cheaper than a bag of chips I reckon it’s that time. I wanted a boxster as they were £3k a couple of years ago but now they all seem to be £5k so maybe it’s time for one of these. I prefer the 2004 on ones and they seem to be sub £3k now and the retractable is so much better than a rag roof in my opinion, esp if you have to park it in a city. Wonder if the later ones are a better drive? Fancy a manual 350 if I could (pre 2006 for tax reasons!)
I'd have one of these over a Boxster. I prefer the Z3 but the Z3 is useless with the roof on, like camping in bad weather. SLK much more refined.

The later R171 SLK's (2004 to 2010) are a big improvement on earlier R170's. I had a Face lift R171/350 and was great value for money. Though was a Auto with flappy paddles. But I know of owners with the R171/350 with a manual box and they love them 👍
The interior console and dash trim finish is a common problem with the R170 SLK, and you can find videos here on TH-cam showing how to fix it. The best material to use is VLC-color from Volico of Germany. I used this on my old SLK interior and was happy with the result. It used to be sold in a small bottle for dabbing on with a sponge or cloth, but now only aerosols seem to be available.
Did you find that it went everywhere, like did you do any masking?
@@GeoffBuysCars I rubbed down the worn areas lightly where the coating was peeling and dabbed the liquid paint on with a small sponge to give it some texture. I masked off the seats with paper but it wasn’t a messy process. The only part I removed was the dash surround, but it was cracked and needed repairing. The aerosol they sell now will doubtless need some masking off before spraying.

We got a 99 green one 13 years ago ran it for 11years brilliant car, low ownership cost . Ace on winter tyres in snow. Sold to a work colleague and he loves it.

I picked up a 2001 slk 230 for 800 dollars a couple of months ago. Love driving the car love the fact that the roof can be operated manually. It developed a problem with key recognition. Im trying to find a way to eliminate the immobilizer
TH-cam must be going well if you can afford to throw money away on a crappy old Merc.
It cost less than what most people spend on leasing a car. I own 3 cars right now and if I sold them all, I still wouldn't have enough to buy what most of our country seems to drive around in.

Channel called Shop Tool Reviews has what looks like a very thorough and effective way to repaint interior plastics,, vinyl and leather.
I touched up the interior on mine, but it wasn't quite as bad as yours, so all I needed to do was clean and degrease and then gently apply the touch up paint dabbing with a small sponge. However your central console might need stripping off completely, in which case 18 hours in a water bath will generally suffice as chemicals might damage the plastic.
I recognise this car I'm sure and definitely want it when you're done 😂 funky blue wave interior with the red contrast seats would be awesome

I had one of those. That’s the really old one with black door handles and boot lock. They all go rusty under the edge of the wheel arches.

Hi Geoff. I notice the roof seems to work well , I have a friend who had one of these cars and the roof stopped working . It was going to cost a fortune to replace so they eventually got rid , but they took a big hit on the resale because of the roof problem. Best wishes as always 😀👍👍👍
