Installing A Set Screw In Your AR Lower

  • Installing a set screw to capture the takedown pin detent on an AR-15 lower receiver. This allows you to change stock setups without having to worry about losing the spring and detent. A simple 4-40NC tap and set screw is all it takes. It's a less than 15 minute process as my unedited video shows.

this is so under appreciated.... tapping the pins should be standard.... Aero does but their lowers are a tad pricey.

I just bought a Spike's Tactical AR9 lower, and they had done this to both to the takedown pin detent and the bolt catch pin.

I am so glad I just came up on this video! I literally did an exact search for this and your video came up Mr. HeadIdiot. As I always say, I love your channel. I can gladly and proudly say I am your biggest fan! (Still waiting for you to torch more stuff with that torch tho😉 hehe.)
Thanks again for this video. I was looking for a video on how people actually put the screw into the set screw hole. I typically buy Aero Precision M4E1 lowers and the set screw hole is pretapped. Also, if you buy a Aero Precision Lower Parts kit, it usually always comes with a set screw in the parts kit for the pre tapped hole for the takedown pin detent and spring.
I just got the random urge to finally try to put a screw into one, but was trying to figure oht how. I ended up cutting off like 2 could of spring and was able to compress it enough to put screw in. Works like a charm!
I have few lowers with Untapped Takedown pin Spring/Detent holes. I think I will follow your lead and tap those myself! This video GENUINELY helped me out brother!
THANK YOU MR. HEAD IDIOT! (May I also ask what your 1st name is? So I can address you by something other than Head idiot lol)

You are too kind A-Hole(no offense). I buy a lot of Anderson lowers, because of price, and they aren't tapped versus some of the nicer lowers. As you see it isn't a hard process. I will get around to the torch videos don't worry. 😉 The name is Mark which is much shorter to type too.

@@theheadidiot Right on Mark! Your response, it really does mean a lot to me buddy, thank you!
Im was just busting your balls about the torch, but seriously, I think you will get a lot of views etc with those type vids because of how darn entertaining they are hehe.
Also, speaking of Anderson lowers, man I cannot even tell you how much I want to be able to buy cheap Anderson lowers. Before Tax(like 10%) they are like $80-90 each, plus the $25 Cali DROS fee per firearm(California suuux). So I typically just spend a $10-20 extra and get Aero Precision M4E1 lowers. They look way better plus they got many more features. But if I could get them for like $30-50 each like the rest of the country, I would own MANY of them.
I still plan on buying an Anderson lower sometime soon. I already own one of their Stripped Uppers, so I want to build a Complete Anderson Rifle, I like to stay with 1 brand in my builds. I love building firearms! We need to get together and shoot sometime. Even if we do live half a country apart.
Thanks again for your response. Have a fantastic night my friend!

@@aholegunner My big nemesis is Primary Arms which is just a few minutes away. They run these flash sales of Andersons for $30, how am I supposed to resist? Lol.
That would be awesome if that does happen sometime.
You have a great evening and weekend too my friend!

@@theheadidiot I may have to move out of Cali for those Anderson deals alone. I am a HUGE fan of Primary Arms as well. They are my favorite Optics.
Do you own any of their scopes? If so which ones do you recommend?
Have a fantastic weekend buddy! Thank you for your responses as well.

I just got one of the rare 1836 ironworks lowers. It's tapped, but was missing the set screws. So I got the set screws offered by ZRTS.

Fortunately my lower was already threaded. Just had to get the 440 screw. Cut the spring down a bit. Went very smoothly.

I bought the kit from Little Crow Gunworks and opted for additional screws just for that 'oops' event.

Could have made the video shorter and to the point but great idea. Could have pushed the detent pin in from the other side when you had the screw installed using an old takedown pin from the opposite side.

What kind of a pathetic cancer do you need to be to get on youtube and talk shit to this man about his shaking? Get out of mommie's basement long enough to wipe the cheeto dust of your fingers and prick and you might have a better attitude.

@@peptobismol9 I agree man. I cannot believe that someone can say anything like that about someones health. Why does pointing out his shaking have to do with anything? The message in the video is still the same. Shaking cha ges nothing. Man when I saw that comment about being "Shaky Much", just freaking wow.
