IDAHO BDR Episode 1

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 13 ธ.ค. 2024
- In July 2020 6 friends and I tackled the IDBDR. The 1250+ mile trail puts some of the best scenery and mountain roads together all in one route. In this episode we encounter some challenges right out of the gate with some fun outcomes.

Buying a new bike to keep the ride going is the most KTM move I can imagine. Absolutely fantastic.
I did the IDBDR in 2019 solo on my V strom, it's an absolutely awesome ride, I would love to do it again sometime, I also want to do some of the other BDR's.
I'm up in Bonners Ferry.
Nice video! Good job. And 100% agree about the motorcycle shop. They saved my bacon with a 3000 mile Africa Twin that a Las Vegas dealer completely failed three times over two weeks to fix. They instantly knew the problem, fixed the issue of a coating inside the tank on the welds, and pulled a fuel pump from a showroom bike to get me on my way in 4 hours. Plus they gave me a loaner. Truly a great operation!
Very nice!! Thanks for taking the time to make this series! Looking forward to more!
This has to be one of my favourite - if not most, bike adventure vlogs ever. You get the balance just right, with great photography, sound level and commentary. So jealous of the country n roads you have in the US. Thank you very much.
Wow, thanks!
Super enjoyable. Really well done. Thanks for sharing. I love taking in the long views when you don't have to pay attention to the road.
Those 990s known to eat fuel pumps. He didn’t appear too disappointed with the solution! Looking forward to more episodes as this one is on my to-do list.
Man,.... Plz more of this!!!!!
These episodes are fantastic.
I just did Idaho September 2020 and I was hailed on, rained on, froze my butt off, but it was so amazing!
I am not going to be able to do any adventures in 2021 due to work requirements (you and Niko can relate) and so seeing these really helps me out!
I’ll try and keep them coming for ya make sure and check out episode 2
Excellent video, narration and editing. Looking forward to watching #2 . Thanks for posting.
KTM and Breaking Down, name a more iconic duo xD
Wow, just wow!
Amazing scenery. So gotta get to your guys’ side of the border.
Looking forward to episode 2
👍🏻
I keep thinking I need to get to your side!
Looove the sound of that African Twin !!!
Yeah that rear camera really picks it up well
Africa Twin. Few African in Idaho.
Those are the Mormon crickets! Road was almost completely red my first time coming into Idaho and it had me completely contended
Dumbfounded.
Awesome......Looking forward to no.2
Did it north to south last sept, beautiful country.Wish i had more video like yours thanks for sharing.
Excellent job with this video. Very well done! Thanks!
That is why I own a KLR650 and a 300l. Opposite ends of adventure. But both very reliable and bought both for under 10k. Awesome adventure no matter what you ride though. Beautiful scenery.
What a fantastic ride. We have absolutely nothing like that in the UK.... lots of forests and service roads, but mostly we are not allowed to ride them on motorcycles. Looking forward to Ep.2
Yes we are pretty blessed here in the US to have so much public land. Especially in the north west. If you ever make it over to this side of the pond I’d love to show you around
@@backcountryadvmoto Thanks for the offer. A trip to the US is on the bucket list, so you never know. Scotland, Norway and Iceland or on the list too :-)
Great video . Look forward to the next one.
Stuck in the snow here in MI in January, this series is going to be great inspiration for planning next year's rides. Your skills with the videography and storytelling have become so compelling, I was in awe of many of the scenery and riding shots-well done!
(And I was shocked (!) that the KTM shed parts and died. And then he bought another one! LOL)
Thanks so much. That means a lot. Yeah not too surprises the 990 lost a fuel pump. Kinda common on those. Was just glad he got to continue the trip
I find it hard to believe that the KTM broke down! JK! Hahahaha
it was a movie trick... ehhehehehe....
Looks like a awesome trip! Looking forward to the rest of the series!! 🤘🤘
Absolutely love your Idaho BDR. Excellent scenery/filming and editing. Can't wait for episode 2! Cheers
Thanks for sharing... looks like an awesome expedition!!! How do you like the Africa Twin? I own a 2017.
oh yes, thank for those cool pictures... in Austria we haven't so much opportunities for Offroad ways
I was missing your videos. Thanks so much for taking us on your beautiful trip!
A KTM breaking down what a shock!
😂😂
Salut super vidéo magnifique merci
Absolutely beautiful ride and just a great video to watch. Sharing this to my ride crew this is a must do! Great work my man, you are killing it.
Thanks a lot for the shares and kind words
Great video! I look forward to the rest of them. I went to Rawhyde last May. I did not meet Josh but ALL the cadre I did meet made everything look easy!
Great video. Looking forward to more!
Thanks next episode coming soon
Taking the RV & AT to Missoula mt for a couple of months this summer going to do idbdr and lots of riding in Montana! Thanks for the great videos.
Nice! I'm hoping to do the ID BDR this summer.
This looks awesome, just bought a dual sport for these kind of adventures. For now its too cold so I watch you have an adventure and get a list together while I drink my morning coffee.
Glad you liked it and congrats on the dual sport. Its such a great way to travel. check out episode 2 if you get a chance. Just released this morning 👍
Great footage and narration!
Awesome! Idaho is a Gem of a state 🤘
Hay, saw your sticker on the bus last week. While I was dodging forest fires. Gotta say, I have now tried for two yrs in a row to make it up Burnt Knob...you made it look so fricken easy on the AT. I was on an extremely loaded down DRZ400. And solo, so just didnt want to take the chance it wiping out and having to unload bike to pick it up. So I made sure I hit up the higher spot that sits above Elk Summit. 9058 ft. Will be creating some videos from this yrs solo ride sometime soon. But recognized your sticker right away. Meant to bring my PNW Dualsport Riders stickers and add some to it too. But forgot To bring them.
Awesome man, thanks for reaching out. The fires are brutal this year.
Nice ride and nice video guy, really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next episode. BTW Nice AfTwin sound and looks like a well put together ADV beast. Congrats
Thanks for the nice words. Episode 2 coming soon
Always good stuff !! Damn Idaho is beautiful for sure. Great campsites, y'all have fun be safe
Smart guy, KTM YOU BUY THEM IN PAIRS, ONE FOR FUN AND ONE FOR SPARES. GREAT VIDEO. New sub here.
Magruder Corridor was one of my favorite parts of the IDBDR, so I can't wait to see part 2. 👍
Coming real soon
Damn Mormon crickets. Nasty that time of year🤢😂🤙🇺🇸
Norman crickets can. Be pretty nuts in Colorado as well where I live
Excellent post. Looking forward to rest of series!~
When I went west I took hwy 2 out to Washington then 20 the rest of the way. So only saw a glimpse of Idaho. There were some loop roads in the mix but I was on a mission.
This is going to be cool.👌
Idaho is definitely one of those states that you don’t wanna mess. So much scenery to see. Rivers, lakes, mountains, valleys, it has it all
@@backcountryadvmoto the Moyie River Bridge and canyon😳 was something this easterner wasn't used to. All the sun scorched rocks that goes well into Washington👌
I chuckled a bit at "Getting an early start" in Jarbidge, when it looks like about 10 AM in your shot the next day.
I'm hoping to do the IDBDR myself this summer, so I look forward to your next videos.
It was actually about 730am, it was awfully sunny though for being that early in the morning. Lol.
Awesome video and commentary!
Looks like a blast. Definitely want to do the Idaho BDR. Oh, By the way, thanks for the stickers and the pics. Very tastefully done, haha.
Hahaha, glad you liked them. “Ride hard” 😂
Great vid man. Thanks for making the effort to share.
Pretty cool to finally see the day one KTM shenanigans... and what all these roads looked like through clean air and not a thick cloud of dust 😂. Looking forward to reliving the rest of the trip!
Yeah, day one was a shit show
Awesome video; Solid group of guys; kept the ride going with a new headlight and graphics kit. BTW, Where was camp on day 1 (@ 15:00)?
Well, I know what series I'm binging tonight.
I rode it North to South a few years ago. Huge step up buying the new bike! Haha.
For sure hahaha
Pretty sure those are Mormon crickets, I experienced them when I briefly lived in NV. Glad they weren’t swarming when you were riding through!
Yeah they are. They are pretty nuts that’s for sure. Just thousands of them going across the road
Loven the ride. Deadwood is one of my favorite places to camp. Looking forward to the next vid.
It was a great place. Looking forward to heading back there
Ah yeah, another series to watch.
KTM, Always KTM... Off course he buys another one to break down 🤣
Great video! It looks like it's going to be an amazing series to follow, roll on the next ones and thank you for sharing it!! 👍👍
New subscriber 👍 I’m excited to have discovered your channel. I hope TH-cam continues to suggest your content to wider audience 👍
Thanks for the kind words. Episode two will be out in the next 24 hours
Just a heads up when camping on our beautiful Salmon river. Be sure to read the signs about camping on the beaches.
For sure. We looked all around the area and didn’t see any signs. We actually talked to a Deputy who stopped to use the toilet and said we were far enough away to be an issue. We were a couple hundred feet front the river. Good point though to all to make sure you are following all local rules and regs. As a fellow Idahoan, I’m all about keep out state preserved.
Nice ride guys nice ride....
I’ve watched it twice. Great vid.
Glad you enjoyed it.
That's a Mormon Cricket (a type of Katydid and not a true cricket) . Great video!
Thanks, i really enjoy these vids and your “production quality” is good and well-balanced. I can tell its a lot of effort.
Man, that wash out was over 3ft deep when I went through there last year. Hit a rock and watched my bike disappear underwater...lol Never moved so fast in my whole life.
Lol man thats crazy
Can't wait for the
of the series
Those crickets are called mormon crickets. Sometimes they get so bad that the amount of carcasses on the road causes it to be slick like ice.
really enjoyed this.
I’m glad you liked it.
So....is the 990 still in that barn??
From one (currently displaces) Idahoan to another, awesome vid man! I can't wait to get back!
Mormon crickets, those are babies.
Sick! I ordered my map this evening to make some plans for the Southern sections in my Tacoma as I don't ride a moto.
Those look like such epic roads!
Great video. Can´t wait for next episode :D
Thanks, coming very soon
Getting rid of a faulty machine for a new machine that is of the same brand with a reputation for being unreliable doesn’t seem like the most logical route to take…
*that’s a bold move, cotton!*
But…pretty badass to see the dude’s level of commitment for finishing the trail.
Wow, you guys ride fast! Just flying down those smooth dirt roads. Awesome! So, I gotta ask, what happened to the broken down bike? Is it still sitting in that ranchers barn?
So what made it such a long day was that once we got to the shop which was nearly 70miles from where we left the bike, the owner let us use his shop truck to go back and get the bike. We then brought it back to the shop where we left it while we finished the BDR and over the next week they would order the part, fix the bike, and Nicco went back a few weeks later and picked the bike up and sold it. Lots of moving parts but we made it all work.
You mentioned burns but it looked liked beetle kill to me. I live in BC and a lot of the interior looks like that. Asian pine beetle has done a lot of damage to the forests.
Thanks for the input. Maybe in some places thats true. If you go to 21:46, it clearly burns. Alot of that area had a major fire about 5 years ago.
Perfect timing. Planning on riding the IDBDR this summer and was curious how difficult the roads were. Basically should I ride my AT or if my KTM 500EXC would be a better choice. So far, looks like perfect AT riding. Subscribed to see how the rest of the ride goes... Thanks!!
Yes the AT will do it all just fine! Thanks for the sub 👍🏻
Good stuff brother. Beautiful work you're doing. Whoever the two people are that gave this a thumbs down really need to reconsider some things in life.
We are going to have to get that ride going this summer brother. Need some content/scenery like this on my channel lol!
I’m pretty sure it’s the same two trolls every time. It’s alright though you can’t make everyone happy. Plus, TH-cam sees dislikes as still being interaction, so even though these to people always dislike every video I put out, they are still helping out the channel with interactions. In turn boosting the algorithm.
Nice one sir.. Good roads and good buddies.. Talk about upgrade your ride on the fly.. Mighty machin that 1290cc.
Yeah it made for an interesting first day to day the least. That thing is a fire breathing monster
@@backcountryadvmoto 160hp dirt mover..
Actually 1301 cc’s.
Love your channel, what drone are you running.
Im doing Idaho in July.
Lmao, love the wheelie. Break it in good lol.
Good stuff.......
I know this is a late suggestion, but it would be nice to have a list of the bikes that made the trip. Nice video. Thanks.
Thanks for the suggestion I’ll try and incorporate that in future videos
A very nice trip.. dreaming to have something same over here in italy with my at 1100
Which tires? Just purchased 2022 AT. Gravel deems squirrelly. 1) Love your stuff. 2) please addressed Co and Ut’s BDR.3) tell your sponsors they are getting their money’s worth ( from a consumer perspective) thanks for getting me hooked. Next is convincing the wife she’d love it. Jeffrey
Hey! I’ve watched so many videos and love the content. I appreciate all the gear and beer ones as I’m learning ADV riding stuff. Question. What fly rod do you use? I saw it in a few episodes somewhere but can’t find it. Also, as of Feb 2021, what’s your latest favorites for camping gear? I see the description for this video and there’s a lot there. Thanks! I know how this stuff changes all the time...
Looks awesome. I'm planning a CC trip for summer 2022. Does anyone know the make/model of the drone that is used in this video as well as part 2? Thanks
The drone here was a dji mavic 2 pro
What road is at the beginning these curves !!!
Kinda surprised he went from a 990 to a 1290. Always saw the 1290 as having way more road bias than than the 990. How's he liking it?
Man, you have kept us waiting! Love the videos of riding. Keep them coming!
Will do.
Not sure I would have bought another KTM after one left you walking (or riding with a dude on a bike) ha ha. Great video.
Have you ever thought about running tours of the BDR
Yea I have. I would love to do some small groups. Idaho is a little bit weird on getting your Guide license, and some of the national forest we go though don’t allow guided tours. That being said I would “accompany” and “ advise” someone who was looking for a guy with experience that knows the route and other hidden gems along the way. 😁
@@backcountryadvmoto guess I didn't think about a license, guess I was just figuring a Liability waiver and fun lol..
Nice...love it..my crews kinda trip...was wondering all them dead standing trees..don't like that look..climate change a'changing ?...anyway...Loved It...Thanks.
Damn KTM Fuel pump. I had to replace mine at 60 hours. I'm and your riding partner are not the only ones. I'm hoping my AT does not fail me like that. Has yours??
No, not one single issue and I have 30+k of hard use
@@backcountryadvmoto Thats what I like to hear. Honda Quality!
I went riding with some new friends a few weeks ago 3 were on KTM's one had to be push started the other wheel bearings fell out after 10 Miles! There worse than the hardly ableson crowd!
😂😂😂
I wish I had friends that could just do that when their bikes break lol it’d make it so much easier to make trips like this😂😂
How are you getting such little wind noise in your video footage?
super przygoda
Awesome i am doing this in September 2021
What happend to the forest? Everything looks dead.
There was a huge wild fire in this area about 5 years ago.
