    Eric was correct, the Mechanist was originally in the Northern Air Temple; Southern was Aang's home, Northern was the Mechanist, Eastern was the Guru, Western was the post invasion hideout.

    I really love the concept of merging the mechanist and jet. Both characters start off as something and have a twist reveal, and they're direct opposite resolutions.

      I really liked how they made it so that Katara and Sokka go through kind of the same experience, with a supposed ally turning out to be bad, but with one key difference, Jet is motivated by hate and thinks he is doing good, whereas the Mechanist knows he is doing bad but is motivated by love, and as such the Mechanists story ends better than Jets.

      Enjoy watching reactors like @funnylilgalreacts and @BaddMedicine, who flow with the adaptation in lieu of whining about not living up to the cartoon to ad nauseam. Live-action show-runners are bigger fans than most of us. They have the tall order of translating the original to Netflix 8-episodes formats. The show is doing just fine. May these actors/characters grow on us more in season 2 and 3.

    This is the Great Divide episode. Sokka and Katara also critics and audience.

    • @aprilshighfantasysoul5891
      @aprilshighfantasysoul5891 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

      I actually noticed a literal adaptation of The Great Divide in this episode:
      Instead of Sokka identifying with the war-like, meat eating, not prim and proper tribe and thinking 'yeah, I identify with them, therefore I'm on their side and will argue they can't be wrong' he identified with Sai, the mechanist where Sokka saw reflected his desire to be more than a 'great warrior' but also to use his mind and ingenuity to help his friends - therefore he didn't want Sai to be wrong.
      Instead of Katara identifying with the prim and proper, well prepared, educated and clean tribe and thinking 'yeah, I identify with them, therefore I'm on their side and will argue they can't be wrong', she identified with Jet the freedom fighter where Katara saw reflected her anger, pain and desire to fight back against the fire nation as well as create a community to help people who were harmed be healed - therefore she didn't want Jet to be wrong.
      The live-action was able to take the theme and lesson from one of the most maligned episodes of the animated series and reframe it within other plot lines to make it so much more poignant and nuanced, pushing forward a lot more character development than 'Sokka is dirty and lazy, Katara is uptight and prissy'. The live-action took the lesson and actually tied it to Katara and Sokka's core character motivations that will have arcs for them rather than surface-level character traits that never really change.

    You're saying that Katara needs more confidence but like, very early on season 1, she way very overconfident. She had so much rage aand jealousy which was really great for her character in learning from herr mistakes.
    She broke into a earthbender prison to free earthbender. She got so angry at sokka which caused them to find Aang.
    This Katara is so docile and passive, which is my biggest dissapointment.

      @andrejohnson8554 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

When Zuko talks about his destiny and his path he doesn’t show emotions yet people can feel for him because they understand him. Not because they see his emotions. We got jet we don’t have sokka feeling jealous of jets leadership skills. They have limited interaction. Also, the mechanics was at the air temple. He wasn’t in Omashu so that’s different.
    Yeah they aint see a lot of folks until they were going to Ba Sing Se. Also Zhao wasnt at Kyoshi island it was only Zuko and his warriors. Kyoshi didnt overshadow Aang until they was about to get boiled in oil. Roku over shadowed Aang first when they were at the Fire Sage temple. exactly this! Fitting an episodic show into a serialized format necessitates structural changes - ie weaving together storylines rather than having separate storylines back to back. In the animated show, every single episode (other than the 2 parters) starts out with the Gaang traveling on Appa with zero connection to what happened in the previous episode - how people thought they could just shift three of those type episodes into 1 episode and it not be terribly paced is beyond me. The writers of the live-action found storylines with similar themes and wove them together into a central setting and I think they did a really good job

      @@aprilshighfantasysoul5891 They literally didn't because they're just focused on the big plot points. The entire point of those "episodic" episodes was worldbuilding and character development. They're doing neither here.

      @@za-ir5ni Exactly. The original show felt like we saw the Ganng go on an actual adventure. In this adaptation, it feels like they're skipping cutscenes and going straight to the missions. Whereas in the original show, they not only watched the cut scenes, but did the side missions, if that makes sense.

    I wasn't a huge fan of this episode. And I think the best example of my issue is Smellerbee. She stabbed that man multiple times all over his body. And her knives were pristine and bloodless. It just feels like the show keeps flip-flopping on what it wants to be between kid-friendly and gritty in a really hamfisted way. Longshot shot that guy in the arm because they're "the good guys" so they don't kill people...until they heavily intimated that Pipsqueak was going to take those unconscious men somewhere and kill them.
    I want to like it, and I do like it, but I feel like some big aspects are making it harder than it needs to be. And not picking a tone to stick to feels like it was a problem they should have seen and ironed out early on.

    I enjoyed the entire season, I give it an 8/10 after a second watch.. but eps 3 and 4 are some of the lowest points for me, unfortunately.

    this episode did really well at showing what should be changed to fit live action and run time constraints where as the first two changed stuff that i think take away from the series overall but not even for a reason of time constraints as the first 2 covered the first 4 of the original in the same time if not more. and i get that there is other reasons for changes that need to be made but in this the changes felt like they were done well without taking away from the general story or any of the characters motivations. where as i think the first 2 did that a bit. however the casting continues to be awesome
