What people fail to realize is that Performance Optimization happens after everything. FPS is going to be bad until the very final stages of polish and development. Feature complete doesn't mean its finished. They still need to do the Polish Phase. As stated at 14:15
always gotta move the goalposts. even when the game releases they'll just change the subject and find something else to whine about. people just can't admit they were wrong, gotta find an excuse.
That is what is going to happen. There is a ton of engine work and implementation of DLSS, FSR, and proprietary AI to improve the experience. Now with Vulkan can fix the CPU heavy unbalance and move a ton of rendering to the GPU. Let's see how this moves forward and I would not judge the game right now on performance. It just hit Beta
in 10 years, people need to remember, they built a AAA studio of 1,200 devs and started with like 3, created studios globally, changed engines early on, at this point created a custom game engine, a AAA single player game, and an MMO...all at once. Once you see the tech, you can see how it was 10+ years. Watch the Star Engine demo.
Then why does CIG still hire, almost exclusively CryEngine devs and sub contract work out to CryEngine studios lol. Yall are thick AF. Star Engine is Lumberyard, Lumberyard is CryEngine 3.6
@@internet_tough_guy_ Star Engine isn't lumberyard, the same way Lumberyard isn't CryEngine. Star Engine is based off Lumberyard, which in itself is based off CryEngine. Its not the same, and its an important distinction to make. Its functionally a new engine, because none of the highlighted features and technical achievements in Star Engine are present in Lumberyard, let alone CryEngine, and that earns them the right to call it a new engine. Because the foundations are the same, of course it makes sense to hire and contract people who know how work on those foundations, and you're a weird person for phrasing it like you caught some sort of lie here.
@@internet_tough_guy_ ... Wow.. just wow... talk about being thick man... They hire CryEngine devs because that was the base Engine they worked off of... So much has been added and optimized too it that it functions completely different. At this point so much of it is deferent (especially in the multiplayer and level generation) It is its own unique beast. Of course you would hire the people most familiar with the base coding because you already employ everyone else that knows how you changed it.
I think your comment is a bit harsh. I went back and rewatched parts of Quin's reaction video and even if the real reason behind what he perceives is the result of bad script writers, I think the parts that he refers to could have included more punch. It's true that some of the character's conversations felt menial but CIG could have either added a disclaimer about keeping spoilers to a minimum. The other solution would have been to add more spice to those scenes but they have so much work to do, I can forgive why they did'nt.
@@k2000pvc I think we are watching parts of the story and not the story itself. These parts are taken out of context. Also being a part of it will feel different. But, I also can see where you are coming from. It is like listening to 3 seconds of a song, you might not like it because the style does not agree with you, but listening to the whole song might surprise you. I do not think they showed the most climatic scenes though. I know the story on a high level. Remember this is a trilogy. This is just the intro
He is right that the game will stand or fall on the quality of the story though and I'm worried they will go the woke Hollywood route which will end it for me. In story driven games you have to like and empathise with the characters otherwise it ruins the experience.
This is not a trailer, it's part of a presentation at Citizencon, hence the details on the completed work. Squadron 42 is a single player, space flight, PVE and story driven game related to the 1980's Freelancer and Wing Commander games.
Star Citizen hasn't been mainstream for a while; CIG seems to have sort of stopped advertising themselves once they started getting a steady source of income for development, and it's been so many years that most newer gamers don't know, or don't know much about about them anymore. Thus, their tech has become pretty niche knowledge. But hopefully they'll be going back into the mainstream during the Squadron 42 marketing push.
wow almost like most of the universe is empty, most of the planets are completely empty and its wouldnt make sense to have life/buildings on every single corner of every single planet....@@royalecrafts6252
Even Squadron 42 has a couple of systems. There is freedom to approach missions, although the story is linear. While Star Citizen the MMO is huge. We are getting in testing the second solar system on the test servers on the 31st... it will be a rough build initially. All uninterrupted gameplay without any loading screens.
I always find it funny that people call it a scam, when they have several hundred employees across the US, in Canada, and the UK. That's not a scam, you can definitely argue it's mismanaged, but a scam? no lol.
Dont think anyone cares anymore. Maybe 5-6 years ago when the "scam" discussion was at its height. Whenever the game officially comes out (sq42) the game will drop. People will play it and life will move on. Sadly even SC fans cant deny the game has lost a ton of its impact on the gaming community. Nothing it does or is doing is really ground breaking anymore. Maybe sq42 will have a little bit of hype around it and it will be a story based game. But as for the rest of SC the hype died a long time ago.
when this disaster finally gets out, I'm going to come back here to rub it in your faces; scammers in India = industry/ scammers in WoW = industry..you're idiots if you think the fact they have employees means they're not scamming. They scammed you dopes for at least a decade now with little to show for it after all those hundreds of millions drained from your wallets. Lol, lmao even!
The Squadron 42 trailer focuses on the characters. You should see the Star Engine demo, it focus on the universe. And, yes, you can fly from space to ground and back seamlessly.
That's only true in persistent universe because it's on servers. Squadron 42 is going to be a downloadable game on your hard drive and thus will need loading screens. Hopefully they're going to be well hidden. The only way to circumvent the need for loading screens are hundreds of servers running constantly, and that's only possible in PU. Not in SQ42
@@aleks5405 uhm, as far as I am concerned you could play Star Citizen, the online MMO, offline for years until they patched it. So you had your own server running on your own computer, which, back then, was the only way to get decent framerates in the game due to FPS being tied to server FPS :D. (This was basically an exploit telling the game to load up a server with the PU instead of the Arena Commander Map) Loading is done via streaming in this game, just like GTA V does it, for example. As long as your storage medium is fast enough assets can be seemlessly streamed in and out of memory, with no need for "hundreds of servers running constantly" because we already established Entity Streaming can manage to load just the things you need. Quantum Travels and possibly wormholes could become hidden loading screens (in the sense that you have to wait for your ship to arrive somewhere, while being in full control of your character) but that is coupled with gameplay (I hope). I'm not sure of the story of SQ42, but I would imagine we will be able to traverse solar systems, which generally would take a few minutes with such massive ships, so maybe time compression? Micro loading screens not because of a classical loading screen but to save your time flying 20 minutes in QT? idk, we'll see :D
@@aleks5405 The dev tracker shows it has a local client-side entity streaming service. Travel will be same as the MMO which they reiterated in the engine demo. The tons of servers are for the multiplayer features and universe sim. The single player game only needs to drive what you can see in the scenarios and persist your story progress as a save game file. Loading saved games would have a loading screen akin to starting up an MMO session.
@@aleks5405bruh, I think you're wrong. Seamless things has very little things related to servers. I don't think you even know what persistent meant in software engineering. The server literally what makes the PU feel like shit, because servers have many things to simulate, and track.
Because they talk using premade buttons and can't think for themselves. I also love the stupidity when people say 30FPS!!111 as if youtube isn't default 30 fps.
They usually are but it's understandable. Game has been in developement for like 10 years. Then again they are trying to make 2 games with tech that has never been done before. I hope they can achieve it. Been waiting since 2012.
Remember this is a tech review, not a story driven trailer. They do not want to spoil the story. The audience is mainly backers of the game in a conference talking about tech for both games and progress. I can see where general audience can get lost without the context we have
ur straight up coping man, thinking they intentionally picked out the most generic an uninspired dialogue, there is nothing indicating that story will be any good
the story is going to be utter dogshit lol. the leaked script from years ago was exactly what you'd expect, rah rah military ultra cheesy generic sci fi
@@HollowBagelhow is the dialogue they showed not a worrying sign? its not like they specifically recorded filler for the tech preview, it will be in the game, no more major reworks unless they delay for another 5 years. that captain speech, even if we discount the writing, what even is that acting, its like Gary Oldman had a stroke at the end, and they didnt bother recording another take, holy shit
1) Yes you can go from ground, to space, to ground again, all without a loading screen. And even the transition from One solar system to another will be done via a 'tunnel' you manually fly through that masks the unload/inload of the old area/new area without having an 'actual' Loading screen. The only loading screens in game are: a) Initial loading in. b) When you die. 2) That intro you were confused on was them showing off the various characters you can make via the Character Creation. 3) Game has full input availability. HOTAS, Dual Stick, Gamepad, Keyboard/Mouse. 4) Squadron 42 is the "single-player game" of "Star Citizen" (which is an MMO think what you see but on the scale of EVE Online). They have always been doing both side-by-side as the tools/gameplay in S42 is copied over into Star Citizen itself. The reason people give it so much crap is because the initial "funding/development" of Star Citizen / S42 started in 2012. But, what the people who keep screaming "scam! its a Scam game!" never mention, is that 12 years ago, it was just 5 people in a garage, who kit-bashed a video in Unreal 3. The past 11 years have been both Development from quite literally 'nothing', to having a company large enough for 3 locations with multiple teams and 200+ employees. They keep claiming "its a scam!" because to many people have gotten use to seeing a 'pre-existing company' such as Blizard or Bethesda, creating a game in under 5 years from 'initial preview' of the game. Not understanding that those games are generally in development 5 years 'prior' to that initial preview being shown AND are made using assets and libraries that already exist, with a massive team that already exists. People have forgotten how long it takes to make something beyond a 16-bit game from scratch because it has been so long since anyone has done it. Especially on the sheer scale of Star citizen, given that the entirety of Skyrim's skybox (ie: all of its rooms, levels, caves, dlc) cna fit within one crater on one of the moons of a planet currently in the Alpha PU of Star Citizen. 5) Star Citizen / S42 is ONLY on Computer. They have 0 plants to make a 'Console port' It has always, from the beginning, meant to be a "PC FIRST" game that pushed the boundaries of what is currently done. 6) Everything you see was done in-engine, in-game. They dont have a 'separate box' they use to create the cuttscenes they 'splice into place' between actual gameplay scenes. It's all in-game, using the in-game assets, nothing is pre-rendered on a single pc sitting in the corner behind a curtain running 4 cpu's and 5 4090's. 7) When you brought up the Performance and CPU things.. currently the game is CPU reliant more than GPU reliant... pushing more onto the GPU will help with the FPS issues and such as they go through the 'polish' phase and remove alot of the Data-logging that is going on in the Dev builds. 8) How many species are down there? They've only recently shown various animals this year. Likely they have many of them already made, but have refrained from adding them into the PU of Star Citizen both because its simply not needed yet (no gameplay loops using them), and to save them from Squadron 42. 9) CR is really really careful about spoiling any of the story. Wing Commander (which is what Squadron 42 is essentially the successor to), has always been about Story. 10) Star Citizen is entirely Crowd-funded. There was a Company/corporation that came in and made a large donation, but to our knowledge it was purely a partnership, no "Shareholding" done. It was likely a deal to get access to the customized Graphics Engine being used more than taking 'hold' of part of Star Citizen itself. 11) I hope they dont make Bullet-sponges. Well.. yes and no. Do Enemies arbitrarily have 6 billion HP randomly? No. Will a Enemy wearing heavy armor take more to kill than one wearing light? Yes. But its not because they gave that enemy 6 billion HP compared to the others 30hp, its because that heavier armor 'absorbs' some of the damage. Just like the difference in shooting something protected by body armor today vs something that isnt. That that make it a "bullet-sponge"? To me, it does not. To me, a Bullet-sponge would be a Enemy taking 5x the normal amount of time to kill, when it has no 'obvious' (such as armor) reason to. And that does not exist here. If you want to see more on the "Star Citizen" side of things, take a look at their other video that came out along with this one. You'll need to do a search on TH-cam for: Star Engine Tech Demo to find a few copies of it, as for some reason CIG hasnt uploaded it onto TH-cam themselves yet.
@@michaelh878 If I am misunderstanding you, please correct me: SQ42 is a standalone game that is developed simultaneously with Star Citizen, as both share the same universe, game engine and therefore require practically the exact same tech. So technically SC and SQ42 shared the same 8/9 years of full development so far. Most of the time was spent on getting the planetary tech working, figuring out entity streaming (the seemless un-/loading of game objects), the transitions between space flight and atmospheric flight to landing on a planet. The tech that allows for any entity to be stored within another entity etc. Over the past three years progress has been speeding up significantly as more and more core technologies have been completed. So, idk, maybe 2 more years till SQ42 and a lot more for SC if they actually want to add all of the promised star systems haha
Crazy how after several decades of gaming the people in twitch chat still dont know that improving the fps is literally the last step of game development
Yes there's joystick control. You can set up the whole shebang if you want. A second stick or throttle, and rudder pedals. I think if I'm not mistaken, you can map all those things to a controller instead if that's your preference. There's ground vehicles too I believe... Bikes, jeeps, tanks and APCs. Yeaaah... Lots of stuff.
I'm old enough to have played a lot of his original space games, specifically the Wing Commander (1990) series, and I expect the campaign style will be "Space Opera" with you as the hero. The series was, at least to my teenage mind, extremely memorable. You felt like a blend of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. One of the highlights of the Wing Commander series was a branching storyline - failing a mission didn't mean repeating it, you just went down a different path. Continued success might mean taking the fight to the enemy's homeworld, but failure might mean a fighting retreat back to Earth where the final mission is the difference between human subjugation or a stalemate. Chris Roberts seems to be a big fan of the Star Wars / WW2-style genre of Sci-Fi so expect running and climbing into turrets and getting up close and personal in dogfights. He is also known for being a perfectionist so I think this could be a race between polishing the stone and the patience of the backers.
Yeah it's so much of a scam that they tell you exactly what they are working on and when and what they are spending their money on every year and they built 4 dev studios and hired 1,000 people to work on it etc etc @@Virulent-wolf
The chat has the intelligence of a walnut, when you ask a question as simple as "Can you land on planets", there were actually people that said no .. lol
It's funny how he's impressed by this not even knowing half of what you can actually do in the game. I'd love to see the reaction to the StarEngine demo
Support for double joysticks and Hotas. There are also third party providers with button pads and you can use your Tablet as a control surface with the ship interface in it
You guys know that to play Star Citizen and own a ship to just start off is 40$ right? You don't need to pay more.. Ppl talking as if you gonna get scammed thousands of dollars. Of course, there are big whales that are doing most of the funding. Its their money but at least you can see they built something out of all it. You can literally do all the things that I hoped Starfield could of been. I played Star Citizen way before Starfield, this WILL scratch that itch that ppl have been longing for! Just play SC and see for youself. Actual 16x the detail and not 16x the loading screens!
Asmongold's chat was pretty toxic too that's insane. The difference is that amongst those 2 streamers who've apparently never watched any in-game footage, Asmon (imo) seems more open minded and curious as to what the game could have to offer. He even said to his dumb chat that the FPS drops was expected BEFORE the polishing/optimization phase. Quin on the other hand is like.. "we need good writters, not actors..." "I'm affraid it's souless".. Table IQ..
just to be clear, yes you can fly from space down to the planets surface seamlessly. I've actually came in too hot and crashed into moons cause of low gravity.
Every time I feel like checking in on Quin's stream, I just remember his entire chat is full of smooth brain trolls, so I'll just wait for TH-cam to recommend a video.
Hilariously enough, at the 33:00 mark... people in Star Citizen's PU actually DO play like that... because of a few reasons, one of which is bugs (you don't want to get stuck or clip through geometry), the other is that NPCs patrol around some areas and it's very easy to get taken down by NPCs you don't see in just one or two shots, and in places with hostile players, you have to play smart like Tarkov if you don't want to get ganked.
While bugs are a common issue, the gameplay is a bigger one. The game has a semi-hidden stamina system so sprinting everywhere in dangerous areas will make you slower at important things as well as reduce your aim (it's measured by your BPM, high heart rate = worse shot accuracy and you'll eventually get fatigued and move slower). Going faster also makes you use up more of your suit's oxygen, which is relevant in caves, and increases your body heat so hot environments can cause heat stroke faster (the game simulates effects of temperature on the body and without the proper protective gear you can die from hyperthermia). Food and water consumption also speeds up when running everywhere. You can always tell players in landing zones from people sprinting everywhere, though, because there isn't really much consequence. While the game has lots of simulation elements it's not a "hardcore" survival game where people have to eat every 2 minutes of gameplay or drop dead. Most environmental and nutrition effects only apply after tens of minutes to hours and in populated areas things like food, water, and oxygen are so plentiful they don't matter much. If you are in deep space or on an isolated planet, though, you better bring some supplies if you want to survive, and the game doesn't have "magic" inventories so you need to be careful about how much you carry (weight also affects fatigue rate).
I know normal people don't know anything about game development, but you always optimize for performance, _after_ you're feature complete - which they are now. So FPS will be better.
Chris Roberts has been seeding the idea for Star Citizen going all the way back to the first Wing Commander. The most ambitious game in videogame history
Star Citizen is the MMO, Squadron 42 is the single player campaign. They are making 2 games. And remember that Squadron 42 is a trilogy. This is just the first chapter happening 8 years in the lore timeline before the MMO
23:52 They started out with the cryengine, but it wasn't even close to being able to do what they needed, so they forked it, adding the lumberyard fork components as well as keeping working on their own stuff, they added new core tech to their engine as late as last week, and *finally* have everything they need to make Star Citizen (the multiplayer part possible, without that tech the performance of their servers is literally horrible due to the *huge* worlds they're making). So now they got theirnown engine named the "Starengine". They recently made a video about what it's capable of, please do have a look at it. :-)
I've been following Starcitizen for years, and while I'm not entitely convinced the project will succeed due to the scope, I can't deny it has achieved so many things other companies couldn't from a tech standpoint. I'm looking forward to trying Pyro out though, along with server meshing in place
we saw the difficulties they had in implementing persistence.. I would expect the same kind of struggle session with server meshing and replication layer.. but in the end, it will be worth it. It's hard to be patient.. but worth it imo
that's the only real legitimate complaint imo, that all of this is just going to be one gigantic tech demo. maybe the actual story/gameplay will be boring/lame or there just simply won't be enough to do when the Persistent universe releases and we're going to bored and move on to another game after a few months instead of sticking with it for years and years. Which means yeah, they'll have to sell off the tech when they fold up, someone else will stand on their shoulders of their work and hopefully make something fun.
@@VoodooV1 If they gonna implement base building with npc to use then many people will play just for that. The universe they gonna create is big enough anyways. Also there will be hubs. If they make it so that people need go to the hubs. which most likely is the idea. Then people have places to meet. Another factor that will draw people in. Also the universe itself and how it looks will draw people in.
So some basic info about the time and money they gathered. It is entirely crowdfunded, and the time and money gone into building up the studios from zero, writing the custom engine and working on both this dingle player and the mmo game. So with these in mind neither the time or the money is so extraordinary, when established studios spend 7-8 years on big sibgle player games...with ready team, sngine and tech. Like CP or Starfield both took 8 years. In the last few years they focused on this one because this single player was the original Kickstarter, and because they could work on the features easier than in the available mmo version where they alway need to keep in mind the new feay need to work with the old ones too. Now the single player is feature ready, they are bringing all the featuy to the mmo part
@@fmartingorb huh. Maybe that’s something exclusive to the us? I never saw one, although since I‘m in Canada for a semester rn I get advertisements for ship resale sites lol
If you have questions about the engine, and want to see in engine flying from space to ground and back again, look at the engine demo which came out over the weekend
I think you made some really good points, and I know many SC players and the devs as well agree with those. It's a passion project by devs and players who keep looking for ways to make the games better and not just superficial junk. The engine they use now is a heavily modified Lumberjack engine they call the Star Engine. They just entered the polishing phase, which means fixing bugs and performance. The game doesn't just have joystick support but also support for head tracking software and hardware and even has built-in head tracking via webcam.
I also got it to work in Full VR with all the above controls and its amazing!!! I got a setup tutorial pinned at the top of my youtube channel. VR for this game is going to happen natively but not before they get the performance in check. o7
@@Ginkoman2 Were you around for the original engine? The key now is that they have added and changed so much its legally named as separate engine from the Lumberjack. I don't think they could have gotten to where they are now without it. I do however wonder what could be accomplished in the Unreal5 engine compared to this.
@@Krycius Visual fidelity wise and maybe even performance wise? probably a good bit but UE has always covered a large spectrum of game development requirements, thus requiring heavy modification to make it performant in any specific area. I don't use UE 5, or Lumberyard/CryEngine, but I don't think UE 5 would've helped them much, as most systems UE 5 provides would've been scrapped for more specific systems anyways. See for example their animation tech with inverse kinematics (aka brain breaking maths), which are not provided by UE 5. Licensing probably would've been a pain too, though the lawsuits CIG had to deal with probably weren't too nice on them either lol
"Crowd-funded game that has passion and soul" - You just nailed it bro, that's exactly what this is. In an era where all the big studios are rushing their products and cutting corners to respect their schedule, we should be thankful for someone like Chris who has a vision and the patience to do things the way he envisioned it. People speak as if 10 years is a lot of time to develop two separate games PLUS the game engine itself at the same time. IT IS NOT ! And I don't know if you saw that server-meshing demo but that is a milestone for the entire gaming industry, not just CIG. No other studios wanted to take time and resources to explore that possibility and Chris freaking did it ! I'm glad he got a standing ovation after all these years of clueless nay-sayers and haters openly sh*tting on his dream.
all the idiots in the chat who think this is a scam are very amusing. just repeating parrots knowing nothing about the game themselves. EDIT: and having watched a little bit further, i have to say his viewerbase seems to be a bit more on the "low iq side".
been a backer since 2014, at times I lost interest in playing due to long waiting times, but this trailer got me back interested, just to compare the SQ42 trailer in the past ( 5 years ago) with the new one, you can see how the tech has come a long way, good on CIG put a lot of hard work and effort to bring this single player campaign to be this refined ( visually it has improved so much just by looking the before and after videos). Its in polishing stage right now, hope it wont be too long till we can actually play the full release game.
The lack of a story is primarily due to this video is essentially intended as a report on R&D for "internal consumption" (as backers are taking the role of a publisher here). We'll likely get a trailer with more emphasis on the story when CIG has a better grip on when the polishing is to be finished and the game is ready to go all in on public advertisement as a product. Personally I'd say in a year.
Just to point something out - in the navy you say sir to women with higher rank. Also people in chat are so stupid - they just said the game now needs to be optimized and yet chat complains about optimization. Use your brain people, you have it for a reason.
People keep talking about how it cost 600 million, but to put things in a bit of perspective that's the price of modern day blockbuster movies. They are making insane quality environments, ships, and other things so I can see why it's so expensive. Also, I have no doubt hundreds of millions went to waste the first few years of development due to learning as they go and recreating whole game systems a few times. Avengers endgame cost hundreds of million, but I don't see them creating a playable world with game mechanics that we can explore. They only made pretty pictures.
Dude, half the video you are talking smack about the writing, but this is not a trailer, they are only showing you small parts of conversations with no connection so you can see the animation tech, the gameplay tech, etc. NOT showing the story. This preview is only meant to show you the graphics, the tech, the scope of the game. It's not even for new people, it's more of a "progress update" for all the backers who have spent over 700 million dollars combined over the last 10 years.
The amount of bullshit talking in this video and especially the twitch chat, consisting of 13 Year old kids that never played anything else than fortnite was painful to Watch. If People dont know anything about Game Development and Techniques behind a Triple-A Game we've never seen before, they should just stop talking. SQ42 is still in Alpha and polishing phase will at least take 1 Year or more to finish. For example complaining about FPS in an Early Alpha DEMO is the most stupid thing you can do. Performance tweaks are one of the last steps in Game Development. And this video is filled with even more nonsense comments, sadly. If you're reading this and have never heard, seen or played Star Citizen / Squadron 42, please do me a favor and look for more experienced people and Star Citizen Content Creators that explains why Star Citizen is the most anticipated Game since 15 Years and that nobody else archieved an "ALPHA" Game in the last 15 years like CIG did.
I love when the youtubers/twitch people come with their normie chats. It's like reading a bunch of handicapped people typing in chat. How do people, gamers for the most part, not know anything about SC? It baffles me lol.

In reply to some of the questions you asked - try the multiplayer persistent universe (Star Citizen) and despite the current alpha bugs, you will understand so much more about Squadron.
I can see you appreciate what they are trying to do. SQ42 is going to be a cinematic story driven adventure. I hope you get some time to check last CitizenCon that happened last weekend to see what are they trying to make out of Star Citizen. For the shit they are trying to make, it takes time and there days everyone wants everything yesterday.
Actually, they are feature complete, Beta. They will polish it now. They recoded the whole game when all the fully explorable tech came in. You can see the demo in 2017 Squadron 42 vertical slice. They are not giving a date because they want to really polish it before releasing. There are still engine improvements coming.
@@laurenfazenbaker9777 they need to time it correctly after SW Outlaws. Before could downscale play time. I really think next Citcon they will either release it or provide a short release date. It is good for Christmas. Depends on Polishing and hitting gold. Not having it ready right after SF is slowly losing players is a bit of a miscalculation though. Could have saved a ton in marketing.
@@laurenfazenbaker9777 That's a very optimistic assertion. However, that is extremely not likely. Just according to my research, the release window should be anywhere from Q4 2024 to Q4 2025. You can walk around in all the ships. (Well, not sure about the Bengal carrier; that's the big one. It may still be a work in progress on the inside.) Most of the between mission action takes place on a relatively small frigate with a crew of 200 NPCs.
I think you don’t understand this isn’t a GAME TRAILER. This was a progress update for backers who had been waiting for years to see progress. A true game trailer will show more off on the story elements. Quit yapping about the writing - you can’t understand it without context.

Unlike all the trolls, yes, those ships are fully rendered. The large ships are complete interior and exterior and you can control each of them. It's a simulation more than a game. That said, it is also WAY overdue with no release date in sight yet. All they say now is its feature complete.
CIG are making 4 games Squadrons 42 is the first of 3 single player games, Star Citizen is the MMO set in the same universe CIG's marketing as made this confusing unless you follow that games.
This twitch Chat giving me eyes Cancer. This is in-game footage with the "Star-Engine" and yes the fps is low because, as they said, they are in the polishing/optimization stage of the devlpmnt.
Arguing with people who reference Star Citizen as Scam Citizen is like playing chess with a pigeon. They shit on the board, knock over the pieces and strut around like they won.
32:00 idk if this is just a tired joke now but YES, thousands of videos online players doing that, its everyday in Star Citizen. So are bugs but you wouldn't order a soup expecting steak, its an alpha. Straight facts, twist it as much as you want.
The funny thing is whenever you ask some of the haters why it is a scam you never get a clear answer other then "its a scam" or "you bought a game for your grand children". They have no information about the game, they know nothing about it but they need to hate it at all cost even if they have the evidence right in front of their eyes. Has to be a very pathetic existence they live when you realize you wasted years of hating and find out at the end you are the idiot. 🤣 It took so long to develop the game cause they build some of the most groundbreaking and cutting edge technology in video game history. People compare this game to maybe WoW, D4, Starfield or CoD or any other classicly developed video game but its way more advanced then everything you have seen so far in video games. Thats the biggest problem for most people who didnt had any contact with the Game so far. They have know idea how this Game will change Video Games in the future and i just talk about the single player, their upcoming Servertech for Star Citizen will revolutionize MMO´s forever. I also can recommend their video about Star Engine, their graphic engine, its really impressive. One little warning at the end, the learning curve for example for the flight model is very steep. Its to easy to sit in the cockpit and fly around but nothing beats experience and a lot of us have 1000´s of hrs of it. Games like WoW, ESO, Lost Ark and other MMO´s are never finished they are in constant development. WoW wasnt finished with the release in 04, they patched it, implemented new content and new expansions. To say Star Citizen will never be finished is a prime example how desperate the haters are to find any reason to hate on the Games and the Developer. Another thing i read in the chat is about pc and/or console. SQ 42 is currently pc only but they consider to release it for the next console generation. Current Gen is not able to handle it. The MMO Star Citizen will never come to consoles cause even the next Gen wouldnt be able to handle it. They talked about it several times, last time i know of was a Bar Citizen in Hong Kong this year. One last thing, there are no loading screens despite the unbelievable size and scale of the game. All you have seen in the video is ingame, not rendered or in engine.
Bro their main answer is because it's been delayed and "were working on it" for the last decade, not its a scam. You've clearly bought into the game, great when it's finally ready and can be played let the rest of us know
Well put. People who take an interest in this game and in Star Citizen know it's not a scam or anything close to it. Starfield took 10 years to develop, and it was rushed to release.. it's basically a loading screen / fast travel simulator.. and Bethesda had a fully developed studio with a thousand game developers ready to go.. when Squadron 42 and Star Citizen were announced Cloud Imperium Studios was mostly an idea.. they had 6 fulltime employees. It takes time to build up a studio with game developers who know what they are doing.. I don't think this game's development is behind at all.. in fact, color me impressed when considering the quality just in the little gameplay we have seen so far.
I mean how about the fact that CIG has repeatedly and blatantly lied about the state of the game(s) and its progress? Answer the call 2016. Weeks not months. Buy another $500 pledge ship this is not going to "change video games" lmao. Most gamers are not interested in stuff like waiting 5 minutes real time to take a commuter train 10 minutes to request a spaceship, or spending 20 minutes real time in warp speed to get to a waypoint.
The Scam Citizen argument was certainly relevant when the 'game' consisted of a very glossy box containing a representation of a ship you could fly one day, maybe, and the website was nothing but a brochure for ships to purchase with real money and put in your expensive showroom. Today it's a playable environment but, tomorrow the argument will either be: a) Amazing! this is what happens when you give someone unlimited time, money, freedom! b) Well we told you so, this is what happens when you give ..... It will either change gaming forever or burn so much copium™ it changes the atmosphere into salt. StarEngine will get licensed to other properties over the next 5 years, who will be 1st to bite the forbidden fruit?
I love seeing all the copium in the twitch chat of people calling this game fake. You can play it now, no loading screens, and you don’t need a supercomputer to run it. They’re just scared to see the game actually be good because they shit on it so much that if they’re proven wrong they’re gonna be made fun of for years
For real though this game is going to blow every other game away and people will want only games made in star engine. If you have not yet watch the Star Engine demo you should. Yes the game is private, and yes its been in development for 10 years. They are just doing polish, the multi player MMO is playable now. The 2nd Star Citizen will be out Oct 31st. They are also not showing all of the action scenes but there have been leaks and they are cinematic to the max.
If you want to fly it down to the planet jump into the MMO and then you can see it happen. This is the first person version and for an audience that is already familiar with that tech.
The games creator plays on a dual analog game controller usually and wants it to be flexible. It currently supports KB/Mouse, controllers, flight sim gear, with TrackIR and Tobi head/eye tracking support. It also supports webcams to allow you to real-time mocap animate your characters face with your face in the MMO game to look natural when talking or making funny faces. A tech they call Face Over IP (FoIP) which also provides cheap headtracking depending on camera quality and CPU. I use dual VKB gunfighter flight sim sticks to fly and KB/M for FPS and Tobi tracker. With full tracking and sticks ship combat and racing are very immersive and an edge in PvP and ship racing or just enjoying the endless eye candy scenery. If they get the FPS and polish squared better than Cyberpunk was at release, they will do fine.
"Sir" originates as the honorific for a Knight. The "civilian" version is Sire. IIRC There was no rule against a female becoming a Knight, but it was simply unthinkable that a woman would choose to become one. If they did, and gained the title, they would be referred to as a Sir. The equivalent would be Dame _suo jure;_ ("in her own right"). Prior to modern sensibilities, even the US Military used "Sir" for reporting to female officers, as the honorific referred to the rank/reflected their superiority, and was not specifically associated to the person individually. When I went through, I was told in no uncertain terms that "everyone is a Sir" including those of the same rank. In fact, we were expected to refer even to civilians/children as "Sir" while in uniform and even out of uniform near the base. "M'am" was appropriate for female civilians. For female _servicemembers_ we were expected to refer to them as "Sir" to reflect that they were of equal status to any man of the same rank because the standards to achieve the rank were the same for everybody.
Fortnite pulled in over a billion in skin sales year 1, Star citizen still isn't at a billion fundraised over 11 years. Starfield was in development for 8 years and didn't push any new tech, Squadron 42 is pushing boundaries. it's been a long wait but i'd rather believe, no one tries this hard at a scam. No CGI. All in-game. No release date and plenty of time to work on that framerate that we all know was going to be an issue - fuck man I'll buy a new pc if that's what it takes to play something that's ACTUALLY next-gen. Todd expecting an upgrade for Starfield is insulting. Don't think I've ever seen a chat so brainless.
You kept complaining that they're not showing gameplay - the reason for that is because THEY ALREADY SHOWED GAMEPLAY. The vertical slice was released years ago, and even back then it looked incredible. This particular video was not exactly meant for newcomers, this was for the backers. You wanted to watch them fly down to planet surface seamlessly, besides the fact us SC players have been doing that for YEARS now, here it is in the Single Player (SQ42) too: th-cam.com/video/BHR1aEdTA4M/w-d-xo.html
Yeah the people that say scam citizen are the ones that haven't actually tried the game. They just see that it took a long time to get started and piggyback off each other's trolling. Most of them come from other games like elite dangerous and still haven't bothered to give this game a shot. I started in elite dangerous and after 3000 hours in that game I left because of all of their broken promises for a game that continues to deliver and still has a long way to go. Star citizen is the most immersive game I've ever played by far and continues to get better. It has a long way to go but it has also come a long way. Before people bash on it they should actually give it a try. And if they gave it a try 10 years ago they should definitely give it a try today.
Keeps talking about the framerate when the first line of the video literally said they are entering polish phase now, which means this is when they work on optimization. And yes, now that squadron 42 is almost done, most of the devs working on that can go on the Star Citizen side and that part of the game is going to get alot of focus.
i play starcitizen on a 5800x and a 6800xt at 1440p and get easy 60 fps if im not in a major city. if i go to area comander where youre not in the huge star system its lock at 60 fps no doubt i could run 90 or 120 if my moniter could. this has more effects in SQ42 but the 6800xt is not top teir of its gen and its already a gen old so im sure untra will be hard to run but ive seen this game come to far to think it will run like crap
also quin look at wing commander, thats what this will likely be like. think more ac6 not elden ring. SQ42 is a story driven game, the go any ware do anything is starcitizen. wich you should try but be warned it can be infuriating at times, but when star citizen is working theres nothing like it.
The worst thing about watching this reaction wasn't the bad fps with sq42 it was the low i.q in his stream chat.

What people fail to realize is that Performance Optimization happens after everything. FPS is going to be bad until the very final stages of polish and development. Feature complete doesn't mean its finished. They still need to do the Polish Phase. As stated at 14:15
After the Polish stage comes the Finnish stage.
always gotta move the goalposts. even when the game releases they'll just change the subject and find something else to whine about. people just can't admit they were wrong, gotta find an excuse.
Fail to realize that its absurd to draw uninformed judgments
@@madslentoft6682 I was once in Poland, never in Finland though. 🤔
in 10 years, people need to remember, they built a AAA studio of 1,200 devs and started with like 3, created studios globally, changed engines early on, at this point created a custom game engine, a AAA single player game, and an MMO...all at once.
Once you see the tech, you can see how it was 10+ years. Watch the Star Engine demo.

Of course you would hire the people most familiar with the base coding because you already employ everyone else that knows how you changed it.
I don't believe Quin can distinguish between a bad story and a good story when he sees them 😂
his chat is filled with brain rots LUL 🤡
@@fmartingorb Yep! We are on the same page about just 3 seconds of a song vs the whole thing

Its crazy how many people don't know that this is a fully open world game with no loading screens.

(This was basically an exploit telling the game to load up a server with the PU instead of the Arena Commander Map)
Loading is done via streaming in this game, just like GTA V does it, for example.

1) Yes you can go from ground, to space, to ground again, all without a loading screen. And even the transition from One solar system to another will be done via a 'tunnel' you manually fly through that masks the unload/inload of the old area/new area without having an 'actual' Loading screen. The only loading screens in game are:
a) Initial loading in.
b) When you die.
5 years of dlc for squadron 52 then another few years of development for Star Citizen?
@@michaelh878 If I am misunderstanding you, please correct me:
SQ42 is a standalone game that is developed simultaneously with Star Citizen, as both share the same universe, game engine and therefore require practically the exact same tech.

Sounds good!
Yes but the video he is watching is about squadron 42 which you can no longer buy until it's released.
That’s what I’m thinking.
Like I see the star citizen game play and regardless of how it’s gone so far they do have a decent looking product.

Chat going on copium life support if this releases

I know normal people don't know anything about game development, but you always optimize for performance, _after_ you're feature complete - which they are now. So FPS will be better.
Chris Roberts has been seeding the idea for Star Citizen going all the way back to the first Wing Commander. The most ambitious game in videogame history
Star Citizen is the MMO, Squadron 42 is the single player campaign. They are making 2 games. And remember that Squadron 42 is a trilogy. This is just the first chapter happening 8 years in the lore timeline before the MMO
23:52
They started out with the cryengine, but it wasn't even close to being able to do what they needed, so they forked it, adding the lumberyard fork components as well as keeping working on their own stuff, they added new core tech to their engine as late as last week, and *finally* have everything they need to make Star Citizen (the multiplayer part possible, without that tech the performance of their servers is literally horrible due to the *huge* worlds they're making).

VR for this game is going to happen natively but not before they get the performance in check. o7
i dont get why they chose lumberjack which is just cry engine 2. they started with cry engine 3.
I'm glad he got a standing ovation after all these years of clueless nay-sayers and haters openly sh*tting on his dream.

been a backer since 2014, at times I lost interest in playing due to long waiting times, but this trailer got me back interested, just to compare the SQ42 trailer in the past ( 5 years ago) with the new one, you can see how the tech has come a long way, good on CIG put a lot of hard work and effort to bring this single player campaign to be this refined ( visually it has improved so much just by looking the before and after videos).

In naval tradition, it's acceptable to call a female captain "sir".
Unlike all the trolls, yes, those ships are fully rendered. The large ships are complete interior and exterior and you can control each of them. It's a simulation more than a game. That said, it is also WAY overdue with no release date in sight yet. All they say now is its feature complete.
Dont worry, flying from space to planet is not shown here because it is trivial to them. They milked the hype for that years ago.

people calling it a scam don't have the balls to see the vision and ongoing work
The funny thing is whenever you ask some of the haters why it is a scam you never get a clear answer other then "its a scam" or "you bought a game for your grand children". They have no information about the game, they know nothing about it but they need to hate it at all cost even if they have the evidence right in front of their eyes. Has to be a very pathetic existence they live when you realize you wasted years of hating and find out at the end you are the idiot. 🤣
It took so long to develop the game cause they build some of the most groundbreaking and cutting edge technology in video game history.

Yes the game is private, and yes its been in development for 10 years. They are just doing polish, the multi player MMO is playable now. The 2nd Star Citizen will be out Oct 31st. They are also not showing all of the action scenes but there have been leaks and they are cinematic to the max.
Watching the same vids as Asmongold now, it was even the same day.
the fact that chat constantly switches from "it's fake" to "the fps is bad" is hilarious
If you want to fly it down to the planet jump into the MMO and then you can see it happen. This is the first person version and for an audience that is already familiar with that tech.
It's crazy how misinformed people are about this project in general.
Do you realize how long it takes to get back up and running when you die? The game is massive if you die quickly you will be frustrated
It's not a story trailer. It's a tech trailer. 28:15 that wasn't the point of why they were telling us about the actors lmao listen..
Fortnite pulled in over a billion in skin sales year 1, Star citizen still isn't at a billion fundraised over 11 years.

All the people saying Scam Citizen probably haven't even played the game...
The beginning shows character customization
You kept complaining that they're not showing gameplay - the reason for that is because THEY ALREADY SHOWED GAMEPLAY. The vertical slice was released years ago, and even back then it looked incredible. This particular video was not exactly meant for newcomers, this was for the backers. You wanted to watch them fly down to planet surface seamlessly, besides the fact us SC players have been doing that for YEARS now, here it is in the Single Player (SQ42) too: th-cam.com/video/BHR1aEdTA4M/w-d-xo.html
you gotta remember that that was a gameplay showcase not a trailer
Its common game design to optimize the game and fps at the end of development. They are not there yet. Of course the frames arent amazing.
The chat is like: I cant play it on PS2 with 120 fps tomorrow its a scam!!!! 😪
Keeps talking about the framerate when the first line of the video literally said they are entering polish phase now, which means this is when they work on optimization.
And yes, now that squadron 42 is almost done, most of the devs working on that can go on the Star Citizen side and that part of the game is going to get alot of focus.
This would be a better experience without the negative IQ chat only repeating 10 year old misinformation.
i play starcitizen on a 5800x and a 6800xt at 1440p and get easy 60 fps if im not in a major city. if i go to area comander where youre not in the huge star system its lock at 60 fps no doubt i could run 90 or 120 if my moniter could. this has more effects in SQ42 but the 6800xt is not top teir of its gen and its already a gen old so im sure untra will be hard to run but ive seen this game come to far to think it will run like crap
also quin look at wing commander, thats what this will likely be like. think more ac6 not elden ring. SQ42 is a story driven game, the go any ware do anything is starcitizen. wich you should try but be warned it can be infuriating at times, but when star citizen is working theres nothing like it.
