'The fastest gum chewing electric broom sweeper and singer whom doesn't miss one crumb or any chips on the floor, and the aluminum garbage can slapper was hell!!!
if i only could offord a used Mark king standard Alembic. it suits suits the music so good, on all concerts they have had after 1989, Sad that he only can use Status basses now. I guess he maybe would have used Alembic if it's not because his "arangement" with Status
@@MatsEvensen he never had any agreement with status he always plays what he feels is best. Now he's back to the JayDee which in my opinion is the better sounding bass.
What can I say that has not already been said. I have seen him live also and he is mesmerising on stage, perfect technique and execution and vocals. The total bassplaying performer.
The years around the turn of the Millennium were really pivotal to whether the songs of Level 42 would continue…And good God, Mark got out there and kept shit going!…I feel very privileged to have gone to many of Mark's gigs (and the re-branded Level ones) across the transition from 99 to 01……This gig is a great example of an amazing but often neglected period in Level music history…Just glorious music IMHO.
They are soo tight,WOW. Mark is so obviously, the captain of this ship. Mark and Garys bass drum are so tight , just great the way it should be.Mark is the master of singing and playing ,so UN related vocal and bass lines.
Amazing how different his two alembics sound. All alembic series basses have a life of their own. A testament to their hand made one off, custom status. My two series instruments are completely different .They both sound like alembics ,but that is where it ends. Nothing like them. They are the Bentley of basses!.
I didn't really want to get into "who's a better bass player" discussion. almost impossible as they both have very unique playing styles. My comment was in response to the question "Can anyone else play and sing like Mark King"?. I'll say again Geddy Lee plays Bass, sings and uses Taurus pedals with his feet simultaneously which in my opinion is much harder to do. Especially when Rush play in much harder time signatures. Anyway I love them both and glad that they're both still going strong!
True, sound is different from all other Level 42 live stuff, different as in warmer, rounder, fuller as opposed to the otherwise rather 'thin' in bass terms sound you hear live, without a doubt the Eden amp also plays a role here :)
@@marcusbellbass1375 I enjoy watching your channel, I don't blame you for disabling your comments. Mark had an awesome tone with Alembic, don't know why he switched.
Mark King has definitely got the sound of his Alembic nailed. In this concert the bass sounds better than all the other concerts I've seen on TH-cam where he is using an Alembic.
Despite what many may say I still think Lyndon did a brilliant job back in the day before Mike returned. Those are not easy shoes to fill by any means. The fact that Lyndon has also played live and sessioned with the likes of The Human League, George Michael and Go West speaks volumes.
If you've not heard any Rush It's hard to know where to start. They've been going for nearly 40 years so you've got about 20 albums to choose from. Check out this "New track" of theirs on youtube. RUSH - Caravan HD - Time Machine Tour Watch how he sings, plays bass and triggers keyboard samples with his feet all once! The bass playing at the end if brilliant as are the whole band. I'll be surprised if you're not impressed by the end
@@davidupton3186 I saw him at a LEVEL 42 concert and a Go West concert and he was great at both. Didn't know that Mike wasn't round for a bit as I was living abroad in the '90s and early 2000's
I agree Mark King is a monster the way he sings and plays. I would say their is someone else who is even more incredible. Geddy Lee from Rush, sings, play keyboards, bass pedals and on top of that is one of the best bass players around. Rush play in some very complicated time signatures and his bass lines are very complicated. Not slap like Mark King but I personally find Geddy's bass lines harder to play!
And to think I've often heard in interviews he thought he wanted to be drummer but wound up vacuuming & waxing furniture anyway!!! Are there any carvin imop owners out there presently? Those people make some wonderful tools.
Does anyone else do this? I mean this level of playing on its own is incredible! But to sing? And lead the band? Seriously, the nearest can't be sting?!
I actually sold my long scale MK Sign DLX. The body just didn't fit me well. Beautiful instrument, great sound too; but I prefer to play my Status Empathy, my Carvins and jazz bass. Mark King is badass regarding his ability to play monster lines, sing well and chew gum.
With respect, I think the phrase "even more incredible" is a bit strong for the comparison made. Keep in mind King can play drums and guitar quite ably. The fact King doesn't play keys or bass pedals live is a moot point given that he plays funk/jazz, Lee rock. As they both perform the same duties otherwise, a fairer test in this imaginery comparison would be to ask: could they swap places? Personally, given a month to learn, I don't think Lee could switch as quick as King... and Geddy rocks!
how can someone play like that and sing at the same time?
amazing! I've always been a big fan, great album true colours

Nice funky, crisp sounding Level 42. love them. Takes me back to their original time.
I simply love the Alembic and it sounds so great.

At my age I look at that slab of hardware Alembic and think about the neck and back ache 😅
It makes me crazy how good this song is and how phenomenal Mark’s playing is!!!!

My all time fave from this phenomenol band gotta see them again b4 I Pop my clogs♥️
I love you mark King for ever ❤
Wow ! This song sounds amazing live.
Interesting harmony progressions, and a killing bass line 👍

Splendor of Mark King's bass play is not only slap but also finger picking.
I love 2:37 - singing and playing- just wonderful to watch.
One of the best clips here of Level 42!!! Great sound, great song...!! Thanx so much for posting!!
3 words: That Bass Kicks!!
Absolutely love marks bass on this sublime

Mark & Alembic, the best tone!

That Alembic Sound smokes the other basses he has!

Michael Beston oh man, Mark go back to this bass, please!
@Ry42Back : have to agree Mr Ryan ,the alembic sounds great as well
A Legend.
I love it when the stage goes black and all you can see is his bass

Love this track may the whole album. Takes me back to 1984.
So wanna backing sing for this band.
The keyboards are a bit naff in this live, though.
No Mike Lindup so never gonna be as perfect.
Let's sing
Definitely not Mike Lindup but certainly not naff either, you haven't got a clue what your talking about.
I think Lyndon Connor did a great job standing in when Mike wasn't around.

The Alembic sounds the best of all his basses

Geddy is probably the best rock bass player ever but he can't hold a candle to Mark king.
MK doesn't just play slap as this video clearly shows.
@drkimy: Indeedy !.

True, we both miss Mike Lindup here. This keyboard player's style just didn't feel right here.

+Discordinated brad lee "Sludgery", that's a good word.
The long scale Alembics have more bottom end through harder to play.
