Daijishō - An Emulation Frontend With Limitless Potential

  • Emulation Frontends are constantly innovating with new ideas and ways to make your library feel more active and easy to navigate.
    By some miracle, I managed to convince the dev to integrate RetroAchievements and we've locked in on the project ever since. I've been working close with Daijishō to create what could be the best frontend experience on Android, and it's been months since this video began production. Consider it a way to point the dev in a unique direction; showing off what some new features could potentially look and feel like and how it could improve the overall experience.
    There's some easter eggs here too, see if you can spot some of them...
    And of course I'm happy to say I did my best to check for mistakes before rendering this time. 1 frame of the video was out of sync with the fluidity but I rather have 1 bad frame than 100.
    PLEASE tell me what you guys think, and be sure to share your own ideas with the dev too! Thank you guys for always being patient with my content, I hope it was worth the wait :)

    As for the ideas of extra features, such as friends list, real-time messaging, while they may look fancy, I am afraid the operation in the background will consume a good chunk of system resources, which may be quite limited on lower-end devices.

    Amazing concepts and visuals! You definitely spent a lot of time on this and the mock-ups look smooth. I haven't heard of this frontend before but with my recently bought RP2+ I gotta check this out. Also I'm currently watching Action Button's review on boku no natsuyasumi so it showing up was a nice little surprise.

Also, would we be able to pin the games to the top of games list (per console) or part as part of a "highlighted titles" list above the entire collection? This would just make it just that little bit more convinient!

    @danpatrick7176 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bro! Love the nintendo menu vibes. Hey, if you care about pc frontends for that potential couch play, there a gui for launchbox/bigbox that allows you to create a theme with zero code! Ive messaged the developer of the theme creator multiple times. Hes really cool. I would love to see your design brain create a theme over there. The theme creator has potential that no one has tapped into yet i swear. Ive been back and forth on making my own theme for some time but got extremely sidetracked drawing icons for every system (not released yet) and i redrew all the platform logos in vector which took two years (off and on) its been wild. The theme creator is much much more usable now though. Seriously give the community theme creator for LB a look.

      For PS2 achievements (they launch in a few days) use AetherSX2.
      PS1 - Duckstation
      Everything else - RetroArch (cores)
      DS - melonds core
      Dreamcast - Flycast core
      SNES - snesx9 current
      GBA - mgba or vba-next core
      NES - mesen core
      Saturn - yabause core
      PSP - ppsspp core (use the core from the regular playstore release and drag it to RA 64bit which you download from the official website if you want better speeds)
      For GameCube, Wii and 3DS they don’t have achievements yet (3DS May start development late next year) so for now just use Citra MMJ Ubuntu for 3DS and Dolphin MMJR2 for GameCube/Wii (that one varies a lot though)

      U.I. Is pretty easy when you realize it’s just a bunch of basic shapes and text. Some of those shapes become image masks and you can group any layer together to animate certain groups at once without the extra work. Then you can animate that finished animation after setting it as a pre-composition.
      It’s a lot of flare but most things are just still images I manipulated a lot. Some menus I didn’t make like the official Daijishō screenshots were masked in certain ways so I could animate everything as if it were all separate items. I guess explaining it made me realize it is kind of complicated but I promise I’m braindead half the time, it’s easy to learn when you try.

      there's an unofficial way to install an Android Platform within Daijisho.
      You'll have to change the Index URI. Once you select that, you'll see a URL, replace "magneticchen" with "savethekiddes" within the URL and save.
      You should be able to download the Android platform now and have full access to your Android games, meaning you can pin them to your widgets page like a regular game.
      Hope that helps!

    This was very well put together although I feel was a little too angled towards retro achievements over anything else.
    Personally I would like an option to have a less busy screen. The platform selection screen feels cramped on a Retroid pocket 3. I would like to have no list of systems at the bottom and no button saying download. I also don’t need a share button. I would like it simplified

    I always wondered how to turn a platform like joyplay as an emulator for daijisho. Also your idea is amazing. If that happened people could possibly have a phone who is only a handheld game system it would feel so real. Or any other really. It would also be nice to have a guide in the app for things as well as to bring you to their site or directly be in it. If it's not already a thing.

    Could you please finish making your COLORFUL theme? It's missing Virtual Boy, NGP, NGPC, Wonderswan, Wonderswan Color for my needs, and likely some others. I know where you got the files, but they only come in video format and it's a single massive 8GB dl... but you probably already have it and could easily take a couple more screenshots like you did for the originals.

  • @jamesh446

    I’m assuming Daijisho only lists your retroachievements and doesn’t let you use them with emulators like DraStic that don’t natively support them. That’s feature I’d love to see, however I’m not a developer and I don’t even know if something like native retroachievements support is possible.

    • @usagishade
      @usagishade  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No it’s not, the achievement relies on the emulator, not the Frontend.
      Daijishō is basically an all-in-one hub that lets you house all of your games and have easy access to your achievement stats as opposed to going to a site or an emulator just to view them.
      Little by little we’re trying to integrate achievements to everyday features so that they’re more accessible. I know PPSSPP is looking into adding it to their standalone emulator, sadly I haven’t heard anything from Drastic.

    • @jamesh446
      @jamesh446 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@usagishade thats what I thought, I wish more stand alone emulators would implement retroachievements but as far as I know the only ones to do this are Retroarch, Duckstation, PCSX2 and I think Aethersx2. Maybe Daijisho could add this feature in a future update assuming it’s even possible, I know nothing about game/app development so I don’t know, but it would be something that sets it out from the other front end’s apart from the fact that it look’s better than others that are currently available.

    Please help with this problem I'm having. I have just discovered this video and I am playing mario 64 DS for my first time using achivements. I'm playing on an android 12 device with Daijsho and Drastic emulator. I saw in the achievements for this game that for one of them you need to collect your first Power Star. I did that and my achivement wasn't recorded on my account. Why could it be the reason of that?

    • @usagishade
      @usagishade  ปีที่แล้ว

      Drastic doesn’t support achievements at this time. Your best bet is to play your DS games through RetroArch via the melonds core (desmume if you’re on PC) for now that’s the only way sadly. For Mario 64 DS you might also need the EUR rom instead of the USA but idk if they recently added support for USA yet.
