    Usually, I can look at pictures of a place and imagine the temperature and humidity of the air, the scent of the breeze, the feeling of the ground against my bare feet, but THIS. This is unworldly, I can’t imagine any of that, it’s just so alien!

    If you guys ever wanted to see what Venus would look like without its ridiculously dense atmosfere, this is it.

    • @mechadense
      @mechadense 7 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      The Russian Venera probes actually took some pictures from Venus surface which much later have been de-distorted and stitched by Don P. Mitchell (look it up). At least at the landing sites Venus' surface looks nothing like this. -- This incredible landscape is more like how I would imagine the surface of Jupiter's innermost Galilean moon Io to look like (except that on Io all welling up water boils in the absence of a notable atmosphere - making even very cold geysers ~0°C possible). Io is a giant volcano moon since it is so close to Jupiter and thus heavily kneaded by tidal forces. Io probably lost large parts of its water due to the volcanic heat leaving a naked sulfur silicate and whatnot core behind. Space photos of Io look colorful and toxic like a moldy pizza. All the three other outer Galilean moons have so much water left that global subsurface oceans are speculated about.

Fantastic....

    Two questions:
    1 - The mountains at the end of the video are in Dallol too?
    2 - Why are soldiers with AK47 in this zone?
    Excelente video.

      +Patricio Gárriz 1. Yes, they are close and in Dallol. 2. They provide security for the visitors of the area. 2 years before my trip 5 tourists were killed I think in Erta Ale area, which is quite close

    Spectacular. Nice smooth shots - was this the Panasonic's built in stabiliser or did you use some sort of gimbal?

      TM900 has pretty good stabilization, better than my current Sony AX100, but anyway I applied stabilization in post processing (Adobe Premiere Pro)

    Many thanks Amazing Place on Our Planet for the amazing video. Great job! I could not resist on commenting on your
    following remarks though…”Dallol is the hottest inhabited area on Earth, and also one of the most remote places
    on Earth”…one of the most remote place on Earth? Remote for whom? From which point on Earth? North Europe or North America is the most remote place on Earth for those of us from the region where Dallol is located.

    • @milosh9k
      @milosh9k  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Danakil trip (4 days), visiting Dallol & Erta Ale is usually $600, but can be booked somewhat lower than that.

    • @annndddrre
      @annndddrre 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks.. That's less expensive than I had expected. Btw, did you feel like it was overall an interesting 4 day car ride to and from there or it was rather boring? Sometimes it's nice to also travel through obscure places as long as they feel exotic enough - other times, it's a little boring.

    • @milosh9k
      @milosh9k  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      annndddrre It is quite interesting, most of the time, not only the major destinations. But exhausting too, every day on average 7 hours in the car, and for two days all on bad roads :). Still, I would highly recommend this trip, it was in my plans for couple of years, and I am quite happy I found the time to do it!

The study, published in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution, revealed that any form of microbial life was absent in the hot, saline, hyper acid ponds of the Dallol geothermal field in Ethiopia.
