    This is a mighty close contest. I have four 3776 pens, with three different nibs. And only one 1911L. I’m extremely fond of both pens. If forced to choose, I’d go for my Epinard 1911L simply because I like the 21K gold zoom nib on it just slightly better than the Platimum nibs I have which are also wonderful in and of themselves. And I like the Sailor Pro Gear better than both these pens.
    You correctly pointed out that the Sailor pen is more more expensive than the Platinum. In the U.S., Sailor is quite excessively, unfairly marked up on price. This is always justified by saying that there are more varied colors and models (and limited, exclusive editions) offered in America than is the case back home in Japan. I have always accepted the prices because second to only Aurora, Sailor nibs (especially the 21k) are my strongest favorites.

      Thank you for your comment. Both seem to be nice pens. But I think I can't get used to the kind of Platinum feedback. I love Sailor feedback a lot but Platinum... I didn't find yet a pen from Platinum that I consider an amazing writing experience. And Sailors... I love all I have.

      @@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita ..Oh, your opinion is far from uncommon. Platinum nibs are quite polarizing stuff. I have heard nearly equal numbers of pen fans say they either love them or dislike them, for the nature of the writing experience. I like all of mine, and my 3776 ‘CI’ nib best. I also have all the Sailor nibs except the EF. Love them all.

    Unfortunately, its become a trend in Internet to compare 'writing experience' of pens with diferent nib sizes.. frankly, little help for prospective users. Nib size is a major determinant of writing experience.
    Considerations on price are accurate but of little help also, since users can see the price in the shop and other sources.

    In current US pricing, the Sailor 1911L is much more expensive than the standard Platinum 3776 century (but not special editions). This was not always true. 10-15 years ago they were more competitively priced.

    Sir you know why i love your videos .
    Because i like how unbiased your review is and you like to appreciate fountain pen quality than criticism. Nice video nice pen collection i do like to have that much pens . Do you love rocks like amethist or quarts like stones.

      @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. I don't think I am unbiased - all reviewers have to be biased to some point. But I do prefer to talk about quality instead of criticism, it is true. I like to approach a pen review based on what a pen is rather on what it is not.
      I used to like stones a lot more than I do now. I still have a small collection of those in a storage room but I don't collect them anymore.

    Do you think one could compare the feedbacks to the way mechanical pencils write? I am trying to decide between one of the two, Platinum 3776 or the Sailor 1911 Standard, both 'ef'.

      I don't know if that is possible to do! I would say the Sailor is closer to the mechanical pencil. The Platinum has a harder feedback.

    Another good review. Thank you. I am fond of Japanese pens for their quality. The Japanese B nib also very much appeals to me - that size very well suits my writing style and my choices of ink. I have a couple Platinum pens, but I have no Sailors. I am considering getting a Sailor. The Sailor "King of Pens" would probably be the best size for me, but I just do not have that kind of money (being retired and on a fixed income). 😁 So the 1911L will probably be my choice. While shopping (on line), I notice that Sailor offers more nib point choices than Platinum. That choice might be a partial reason for the differences in price.

      I always like a lot the Japanese F or M. The King of Pen is very expensive, yes, but the 1911L is very nice and it was also available with the same colour as the King of pen I have. It is a good pen. I like Sailor pens a lot!

    Thank you. This is a very good and careful comparison of my two favorite pen brands, and you provide excellent information about both. But if I may, I think it would make more sense to compare the Platinum 3776 to the Sailor 1911 Standard, as opposed to the Large. (Of course, I understand that you can only show us what you have to share.)
    It’s worth noting that the 1911 Standard has a 14k nib, and that its price tends to be at least 30% (sometimes closer to 60%) lower than that of the upmarket Large. Granted, this usually still leaves the Sailor Standard considerably more expensive than the Platinum 3776, but at least the comparison is more equable.
    Regarding the softness of the two nibs, it may be just a bit unfortunate that you chose to compare Sailor’s to the Platinum soft fine. Not that the S-F is a bad nib - far from it. But I don’t think the soft fine is representative of Platinum’s gold nibs, which in fact are often noted for being stiff. In this sense, I think your particular comparison could mislead a newcomer. That said, I do appreciate the many details you offer here, and in the end support all of your observations and conclusions.

      First, let me apologize for the very late reply to your coomment.
      I agree with your comment regarding the Platinum 3776 and Sailor 1911 S. But, as you say, I can only review what I have. I have now a Pilot Custom 67 which would be nice to compare with the Platinum but I no longer have that one. Also the nibs... It is the same situation. There won't be many times I have the exact same nib size for the Versus videos. But I will make them anyway in those cases. The alternative would be not to make Versus videos at all.

      Platinum. Solely due to price. Their nibs are incredible. I've got a medium 3776 that writes significantly better than my lamy unless... you hold the lamy in the pocket. Then Lamy dances on paper like a weightless balerina 🙂

    • @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita
      @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think the Platinum feels lighter. I don't know it that means cheap. I think it is well made, so not sure if it is cheap plastic. If we pick up a titanium pen it is much ligher than a steel pen, and will that mean it is a cheap material? This is really a hard question to answer. 😀

    Price wise, the 3776 should be compared to the sailor 1911s and the sailor promenade...though the sailor promenade IMO with its spring-loaded inner cap and rounded off ends is too "heavily inspired" by the 3776.

      @@jasondaniel918 they are practically the same size, but for me what makes the President a "bigger" pen than the 3776 is the width of the section..something that you can't really feel by looking at pictures.
