The interstate mile markers start/reset at each state line.
BTW, not a clue how that town is pronounced, even though I live in NE Ohio.
Presque Isle (you pronounced correctly) is not an island but actually a peninsula arching/jutting into Lake Erie.

Hi, you asked for some help/hints. May I suggest you*tube Chicago Geographer 's
video he released on 29Aug 2021. The thumbnail shows some quick help on state road signs. At 1:02 in this video you can see the unique Pennsylvania "keystone" shape around the numbers.
Another suggestion is to learn some of the license plates that can be seen (figured out) even though they are blurred. Chicago Geographer has a 17May2021 vid on this topic. Some plates are easy to figure out, while others are very difficult.
Area codes, although impossible to memorize, are good to know for 5 similar looking states; ND, SD, WY, MT, and ID. These states have only one area code for each state, so only 5, three digit numbers need to be memorized.
Knowing the 2 letter abbreviations for each state is very helpful.
Memorizing the state flags is a bit of a waste of time, but states like MD, OH, TN, TX, CO, AZ, CA, and AK can be easily identified. Also, MD, OH, and TX display their flag more often than most states.

That road sign has a keystone shape on it, indicating Pennsylvania as the state, the Keystone State.
