The Messiah DVD captures an extraordinary performance in the magnificent setting of the College Chapel. The performance was recorded during this year's Easter at Kings festival and was screened in over 85 cinemas across Europe and North America. It was the first time a choral concert had been broadcast live throughout cinemas.
The critically-acclaimed concert features the Academy of Ancient Music conducted by Stephen Cleobury together with with soloists Ailish Tynan, Alice Coote, Allan Clayton and Matthew Rose, and the King's College Choir. The concert commemorated both the 250th anniversary of the death of George Frideric Handel and the 800th anniversary of the University of Cambridge.

I have said before: the best and greatest master pieces in arts (music, painting, literature and whatever you may think) have been dedicated to God and his creation. The Handel's Messiah is the most beautiful piece of music that has ever been written and performed in mankind history. It's thrilling specally when it's performed by a fantastic Choir such as King's College's. Beautiful!!!

G.F. Handel was a man of deep faith. He delighted in being able to compose world like this as long as they brought praise and honor to Jesus Christ.

The message is to start being kind to each other and realise that all nations will bow to each other and help. Maybe governments will start thinking about the people of the world and Money is a secondary thing. May Your God go With you. Always.
Really excellent all around, and I appreciate the solid performance by the trumpeters. They are producing all notes without the aid of valves, just air support, subtle tongue and embouchure shifts, and a few small holes for perfecting intonation. How wonderful that we live in a time when the almost-vanished art of playing the natural Baroque trumpet has been revived.
I imagine that we sing together His grace in Heaven Hallelujah Thank you Jesus.

I am so moved even now that I am driven to weep every time I hear this. Handel really must have been imbued with the spirit of our Lord Jesus when He conceived and wrote this. Oh my Word; how moving it is..

The story, possibly apocryphal, is that his man-servant came in and found Handel weeping while he composed the Hallelujah Chorus. Asking Handel what was wrong he is said to have replied that he had seen the gates of Heaven as he was writing the chorus.
Excellent performance! The music is a worthy accompaniment to such divine lyrics.

It amazes me to this day that Handel could have written something so powerful with only a few singers, some strings, 2 trumpets and timpani. Ingenious.

To be honest, I give King David props as the best lyricist in particular, but Handel, Mozart and Verdi all made some pieces with some atmospheric pieces.
It's said that Handel himself said he saw the face of God in this chorus, and I believe it. It's that amazing.

This year in December, is the 80th performance of the Messiah at the Sydney Town Hall using the same format as Kings College. And Messiah is always something special to look forward to.
Not as austere as Kings College; but the organ is the largest in southern hemisphere and when installed, the world for a little while. Ive sung in the choir for the last 3 years.
They need Council permission to play the large pipes because of the strength of the vibrations! For Hallalujah and the Amen all stops are pulled out and its amazing.
The 400 strong choir only just makes it over the organ.
