    Ave verum corpus, natum
    de Maria Virgine,
    vere passum, immolatum
    in cruce pro homine
    cujus latus perforatum
    fluxit aqua et sanguine:
    esto nobis prægustatum
    in mortis examine.
    ~~~
    Hail, true Body, born
    of the Virgin Mary,
    having truly suffered, sacrificed
    on the cross for mankind,
    from whose pierced side
    water and blood flowed:
    Be for us a foretaste [of the Heavenly banquet]
    in the trial of death!
    This song represents a full circle moment for me. It was one of our standards in my public school choir sophomore year, when I was Baptist and before leaving that church an agnostic. Several years later, here I am a devout Roman Catholic who adores and believes in unequivocally the True Presence (verum corpus). ❤️‍🔥
      Actually, it is! They have a lengthy audition process about 2nd grade-ish., Then once you become a chorister at about 8, some of your everyday school classes are directly having to do with choir. In addition to extra rehearsal times on other parts of the week, and often during school holidays. The selection process for being a chorister at Westminster is slightly worse - you are after all singing in the Monarch's official church - but the process is no less demanding.
When I die, I want this music played at my funeral and and hope that God, in his bounteous mercy, will grant me entry to His Heavenly Kingdom. Music such as this is a portal to the divine.     I adore this piece, Ave Verum Corpus , by one of my heros, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I first heard this work in about 1983 yet when I hear it now , it brings back the Summer term in Sixth form at William Hulme, May through to July 1992. I was suffering from depression and couldn't cope with the demands of French A level. But, as usual, Mozart transported me into a world of upmost beauty and serenity and grace and immense comfort. I think of how young I was in 1992 - I was 17 years of age and my whole life lay ahead. I remember the yearnings and the hot Summer of 1992, the grey blazer I wore each day and the rain that fell in the quad during the last few days of Lower Sixth. Whenever i hear this piece i feel so sweetly sad and yet so entwined in beauty and the longings of those days, thirty years ago.Thank you Mozart.
It was the Holy Trinity that chose Mary to be the mother of the Savior, the mother of God the Son. If even angels are glorious and deserve our respect and love, how much more so is the Mother of God and Queen Mother! The glory of the saints comes all from Jesus and directs us to Jesus!     The words mean, "Hail to Thee, True Body sprung, from the Virgin Mary's womb! From the Cross, where Thou wast hung, borne for man, the bitter doom! Sweet Jesus, Mary's son! From Thy pier-ced Side which flowed, filled with water and with blood; Grant for us, O Lord, a foretaste of Thee, throughout our life and in death's last agony! Sweet Jesus, Mary's son!"
    The said words were attributed to be composed by St Thomas Aquinas in one of his writings on the Eucharist. It was said upon completion of writing the Summa Theologica, Thomas was in the chapel when he heard Jesus speaking to him from the crucifix, "Thomas, My son, you have written so well about Me...what do you wish in return?" And Thomas replied humbly, "Nothing but You, O Lord!" I adopted him as one of my many patrons while in school in special-ed. My teacher said Thomas used to be picked on too because he was a slow learner as compared to his fellow classmates, calling him, 'il Osso Dumbo' or 'the Dumb Ox', until the headmaster Albert came out to defend him. He said, "You may call this young boy a dumb ox now, but one day this so-called dumb ox will make such a bellowing, his voice will be heard throughout the world!" Reading this was truly an inspiration to me and hope this will be passed on to others. Just because one has a learning disability, doesn't make one stupid. Many of history's brilliant minds have had some level of learning disabilities in their lives, but it didn't hamper their degree of intelligence
