- The Alienware m18 is their first gen 18” beast of a gaming laptop for 2023. It’s available with your choice of Intel or AMD Ryzen high end 45 watt processors and NVIDIA RTX high wattage GPUs (4060 through 4090) or an AMD Radeon RX 7900M GPU. Cooling is handled by 4 fans, a vapor chamber and an liquid metal hybrid paste on CPU and GPU. The gaming laptop offers 2 display resolution options both with 16:10 aspect ratios, G-Sync, FreeSync and Advanced Optimus. It competes with the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 and 18 as well as the MSI Raider and Titan.

I have the Alienware 18 that comes with the 7845hx CPU and 4080 GPU and it's been amazing so far. Wish it was a bit cheaper tbh but still happy with my purchase
You will soon forget about the price...more important is having the computer you want.

so my concern with this "I don't want to cook an egg on top while im using the machine" so some other reviewers said that it doesn't get hot even afters hours of usage...but here you are saying it hits 100?

If this thing had more than 300 NITS, I would purchase this one. I do not understand why Alienware, to this day, still sells laptops with very dim screens.
It's really not that dim. The screen is excellent. I don't play my games outside in the sun, so it suffices.
In door 300 is enough. I have to reduce brightness from 500 to 300 otherwise I’ll get blind

@@blondegirl7240 Remember, if you have a 500+ NIT screen, you can always turn it down. If you have a dim, dark screen, you cannot turn it up beyond the 300 NITS the Alienware screen possesses.
Could be panel lottery, but ours did measure 391 nits, so at least it seems Dell is quoting on the low side to be safe.
Im running the R1 with the 7845HX, it runs hot as well, have it capped at 85c though and theres no performance loss that Ive noticed. I usually dont deal with Alienware, but I got a excellent deal on this one. 7845HX, 32GB, 1TB SSD (added a 4tb as well) RTX 4070, 1200P 480hz, was $1270 all in, open box discount mixed with a friends BB employee discount.

the thing I don't understand is why the motherboard is installed backwards, where the only air vents are those small slits above the keyboard...

I take my X17R1 everywhere. It’s on a plane more than it’s on a desk.
Good PCs, great portability. You’re going to get some great calves as a side benefit.
Everki is the only backpack that can handle this machine. And they are great backpacks as well.

The flipped motherboard design is the reason for the high temps
Easily controlled by changing some settings in Command Center.

@@echtalion I limited the CPU temp to 85c and adjusted the clock speed to 5400.
Temps are not high on this laptop. I would go as far as to say they are THE best if not one of the best, as my TimeSpy runs are consistently doing 45-47C on the GPU on the two M18s I've owned. If your temps are high, you probably got a bad factory assembly.

I have had Alienware m18 AMD for about two weeks. Love everything except almost non existent battery. Max about three hours before it goes down.
Is that while gaming or regular use?
stock trading with multipole screens up for six and a half hours. Must be plugged in at all times to avoid missing critical data.@@theodorerhigginbottom5837

If so, yeah. Having it plugged in will cause battery degradation quicker.
I had an Alienware 17r5, the last real Alienware. This, 300 nit monitor, no real oc, no subwoofer... I have a MSI GT77 and it is a beast with a best monitor. Very good video, good work...👍
i had a 17r4 with a 1070, that thing was a beast, and the sound quality was on another level too, oh and don't even get me started on the og 1440p 120hz display. shame it suffered a voltage overload and fried all of the mosfet's and the gpu. but man the build quality on that tank was incredible

interesting you found near 400nits brightness there. I thought they were more 300nits. very important stat when you're making an investment like this

So I've been using it for the past couple days. The screen is really bright and it works excellent mine came with a 512 ssd and 16 GB ram. I upgraded to a 1tb and 32 GB ram at 5600mhz. Everything is super fast and efficient.
I just bought one cyber Monday and was going to return cuz of what I heard about screen. Is the screen still going good? Which screen do you have? I bought the fhd 480 hz lowers res. Didn’t have a choice as it was on sale

The cat was a nice touch. Good review, for an underwhelming display. I wish that Alienware offered a better screen. The 18 inch should be a flagship product with the best of everything, including a premium display. For example Acer offers an 18 inch laptop with a mini LED.
You are right. Sadly alienware sees their X range as premium, and M range one tier lower.

I love this laptop so much I have maxed out configuration with 4tb of ssd storage?
I have this beast. It works with the 48GB DDR5 chips and now I have 96GB RAM at 5200MT/s.
One day I'II have mine, one day. I want the best, maybe even this one. Any alienware line are beatiful are beautiful. Most importantly, it runs every game.

Which cpu was in your test model? If you pick a 13700 (and for example 4070) do you still get the same thermal unit (4 fans, etc)?
Yes, but only 2 SSD slots. Only the 4080 and 4090 come with the additional 2 smaller slots.

What laptop that can be drawn on-screen with a Wacom (or similar quality) stylus would you recommend? Looking to replace my current set-up of a MacBook Pro and an iPad 12.9". Wanting an all-in-one type of deal for drawing on the go.
Samsung has the Pro 360 laptops that have Wacom support. In fact, the Pro 360 laptops come with a Wacom stylus.

nice video and congratulations. Sorry for my English, I'm translating from Italian. I wanted some advice, I'm undecided between the 165hz and 480hz display. I mainly play cod and warzone. I'm thinking that the 1200p resolution would still not be exploited if I used dlss... thanks for the advice

RX 7900M is a beast in mobile gaming platforms, it even poses a threat to RTX 4090 laptop models in tests, at a much lower price.

I just asked an associate if the heating issues have been resolved and they told me only the first few units had that problem. So the issue has been resolved

I travel and stay in different cities for 30 days at a time. My XPS 13 is just too small to work on for 8 hours. Was looking at one of these but then I tried connecting a 17" portable monitor to my XPS 13 and it solved my problem for about $180. Weights 2lbs

Is very good! Most people will have this plugged into an external monitor at home, but when in the go, the screen looks fantastic!
It's not at all a bad screen, it's just not one of the top displays, and it would be nice to have a very quite quality display option on their biggest flagship.
i will buy it in a few years for $1000.

I tossed an Alienware 17R4 in a bag every day and took it to class lol. But then again I've been lifting my entire adult life and I was 230lbs at that point.

I just sold my X17 3070 for a X16 4090 I love the look of the M series as well as the performance just a bit chunky for my liking

This alienware laptop has only 16gb ram not 32gb and has 300 nits lol. A cheap acer chromebook has 250 nits lol. My 2022 razer blade 15 has an Intel i9-12900h cpu, 4k 144 hz display with 32gb ram and a 3080 ti with 16gb of vram not 12gb of vram compared to this laptop.
It's 16, 32, or 64GB memory, up to 9TB storage, and you can have a 12GB 4080 or a 16GB 4090 if you want.

@@cueball981 I won't argue with them about the screen, though! The display is awful for any dark scenes in movies and TV. I can't understand AW's continuing reticence to include miniLED/OLED (unless they think it would hurt secondary sales of their AW3423DWF?).
Alienware is been on a downward spiral for years now... trying to chase thin and light... and the over segmentstion of the skus.... there are too meny now to a point it is confusingly frustrati to make a purchase decision... and on top pf that... the build quality and longevity took a back sit even the much more cheaper dell g serues can outperform an alienware which is absurd... but due to corporate greed... good stuff isnt a thing anymore... i could go on ....wvwn further but the bottom line is they've gotten so bad that other brands thet used to he called budget.. are now caught up and now the premium better option compared to alienware......the other thing is they discontinue these laptops so fast it seems like every other day... look at the area 51m... was supposed to be the future.... but it is a disappointing 6000$ paperweitht failure thats got discontinued just one year after and also being beaten by entry budget laptops 6 tiimes cheaper....😢
The last alienware 18 from 2013 .. 2015 was the last great alienware fullu upgradeable, tons of io and could suport 6 generations of GPUs.....
I am not sold on alia ware anymore as a long term high performance laptop laptop option.

G series can outperform alienware? Buddy, I've achieved within world's top 20 3DMark TimeSpy GPU Scores with the M18 running the GPU at 47C. I've tore this laptop down 4 times, and the build quality has been extremely rigid and well planned. The mechanical keyboard has been awesome and to add to that, its $1500 AUD cheaper than the GT77 here.
@@Smoke_Weed_Everyday_ yes ... and if you look a the entry level alienware laptop and put it against a high-end Dell g series... it gets a run for its money.... and that is never been a case for alienware... it is supposed to he premium in both build quality, performance, thermals, durability.... in order to justify the premium cost....... thats no longer the case though.... go and look at benchmarks and then prove me wrong

Maybe that's just me, what do I know 🤔 I have only owned and own most of the alienware versions over the last 15 years and I compare them objectively without bias but numbers are lying maybe
@@razor-reaper I agree that the older alienwares, especially the M15 weren't good enough compared to g series with the same spec. But this has changed with the X16 and M18

@@triple9_ I got msi bravo 15 it used asymmetric dual fan CPU idling at 60 to 65 and always 95 at mid load about 30 watt my friend gf thin also have the same problem with high temp because of single fan cooling I saw other mid model also have the same problem but the higher end model cooler is better than most of the laptops in it's class
