No difference between long acting and short acting adderall ? What about XR Methylphenidate XR (12 hrs, generic , is that same as concerta ?).

I suffered severe depression and mental disorder years ago as a teenage. Got diagnosed with ADHD. Spent my whole life fighting ADHD. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Germany. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them

100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

Hey Hidden ADD, the reason why it’s hard to explain the difference with Vyvanse and Adderall is because they’re different versions of the same drug. Vyvanse is extremely slow release Dextroamphetamine and Adderall is a mix between said Dextroamphetamine and levoamohetamine, with the latter being attributed to the “physical” part of the effects and greater side effects with crashing and sometimes mental state. Since Vyvanse is a prodrug, the Dextroamphetamine is actually inactive until it reaches a part of your digestive system that the lysine is bound to, thus making it non-abusable by means of other intake. That’s why it can take a while to work and also why it lasts longer than Adderall for most. Digestive systems do come into play here, but that’s what it was designed for.

I’ve tried all of them except for Adderall, Vyvanse felt the best by far, everything seemed more enjoyable, and focusing at work and studying seemed like watching a movie, my social abilities weren’t affected much, and I felt a increase in my self esteem. The only bad thing was the insomnia. Ritalin and concerta on the other hand made me feel weird, focusing on only one thing and ignoring the other stuff around, doing things on automatic, I also felt antisocial.

I read a study on amphetamine if anyones wondering about the dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine isomers. Amphetamine, like many drugs, is composed of 2 mirror image isomers L isomer and D isomer, the D being the much more potent isomer. Adderall is like a 3:1 ratio of the 2 amphetamine isomers. 3 parts D and 1 part L. The 1 part L isomer, although less potent, was found to potentiate and prolong the effects of the 3 parts D isomer.

I’m still trying to get used to Adderall, and it’s been good up until I get home from school. Then, that’s when those mood swings and disorientated mental problems start flushing in. Hi. I found you on tiktok. I was diagnosed a few months ago, at 57. A couple of months later I turned 58 and started my first rx of adderall xr, 15mg. After a couple of days I couldn't tell I took it but continued daily as prescribed until last month at my follow up appointment. I was put on 25mg xr salts. My heart is racing, so when it gets bad I stop a few days and restart. Last night, it got very bad, was sick and was hurting. So I stopped my medication until I talk with my Dr. Next week. I have no major health issues, no heart issues. Do the non- stimulants work as well? Its just frustrating because other than these side effects, it worked great.

I'm 30 and I got the diagnosis a few years ago. Got prescribed concerta, and I really wanted it to work. And it did in the very beginning, but the side effects were just unbearably bad for me. I couldn't eat, I lost so much weight that I got badly malnourished, I got really anxious and paranoid, and the crashes were horrible. Life was like having a 24/7 panic attack.
Then after 2 horrible years trying different doses and versions of methylphenidate, I finally got switched to Vyvanse.
The difference is like night and day. I actually feel calm and collected, the extra noise in my head gets turned down a bit so I can focus on a single thing at a time, I don't have that constant brain fog or fatigue anymore, and the effect stays stable for the whole day.
And unlike Ritalin, this doesn't make me feel wired or like I'm "on medication", it just makes me feel more or less normal (or as close to neurotypical as possible)
The downsides I've noticed are the long duration like you mentioned, low appetite (but not as low as methylphenidate), and moderately quick tolerance buildup.
I'm on a 50mg dose, and on some days it feels like it works really well, and on some days it feels like I took a sugar pill. I really don't know how to bring that up with my doctor because of the lingering stigma on ADHD medication over here. I feel like 70mg would be too much as a full day dose, but 50 seems too little on some days.
But overall it's made my life SO much better. I can keep my apartment clean, I can actually remember my appointments and responsibilities, and I can focus and actually get satisfaction from the things I do, even the dull ones like cleaning and doing laundry :)
I was a complete mess for nearly 30 years, but this diagnosis and getting treatment has massively improved my life. I'm still learning how to live a normal life, but it's going well :)

I will be starting my 3rd different treatment for ADHD soon. I started with Concerta, but it didn’t have any effects on my positively or negatively, we upped the dosage but It was like eating a sugar pill. My psychiatrist then started me on wilbutrin (usually used for depression but some doctors use it to treat ADHD) and it seemed to help with the overall emotional stability but did not contribute to the ADHD aspect. Now, I will be starting adderall. I’m hoping this will really help, I might be starting a new job soon as an analyst (work from home desk work) as opposed to working in very social environments. Your video definitely gave me a confidence booster when you mentioned at home desk work and flexibility on adderall. Thanks for the vid!

Have you tried adderall yet? I’m in the same boat with concerta, minus wibutrin. I also felt like I was taking sugar pills (honestly thought my doc was messing with me😂). My dr upped my prescription to 36mg and I noticed better focus, but I really want to try adderall since a lot of peoples experience with it have been the most noticeable, with the downsides of it being addictive.

While it hasn’t been anything super amazingly different or life changing (still figuring out my right dose since its only been a month or so) but i can at least tell its in my body and does make things better. I suspect I’m going to need a higher dose after my next check in. Oh and no weird side effects on it (concerta either). And the extended release removed the risk for addiction for me.

Hey there, would you mind giving an update on its effects?

    • @oshieot
      @oshieot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@conmon210 Just like Yamelsys, I also started XR. The immediate switch to adderall was something I could tell there was a difference from Wellbutrin and concerta. I started out at XR 10mg and over time we’d raise the dosage to 20, 30, and now 40. Around the 20-30 area I noticed that I could give myself the focus I needed on tasks but because of anxiety, I found myself always starting one thing and then switching to something else without ever finishing the last thing. It took a while for me to realize that and once I told my dr. we balanced it out with some anxiety medication. That’s when I started Pristiq. Ever sense, it’s become much easier on myself and started noticing the real benefits from it. I wouldn’t describe it as addictive, only because it’s XR and not something that kicks in at high gear all at once through short periods of time. I’ve actually forgotten to taken mine a couple times and I don’t even take it over the weekends. But I will say the days I forgot, the difference between being on adderall and not was very noticeable. My head would feel kinda blank, dull, hazey and it was really hard to think through it. So yeah, adderall has been the way to go for me now. My only problem is sometimes when I need another refill, here in Florida, they have strict laws on Amphetamines so they deny Dr’s the ability to write the prescription with refills and force them to have to write the actual prescription itself each time you need a refill. On top of that, once the pharmacy receives the prescription, they then have it on a 10 day waiting period until they can fill it. This would force me to either not take any at all to save myself some when I need it more or take half the prescribed amount to make due until I get my refill. Other than that though, it’s been great. If you don’t live in FL, then you should be lucky enough to not run into those issues

I'm a Data/AI Consultant. I have 2 hours of meetings per day and then generally need to code 4-8 hours a day. The Coding is a blend of "creating problem solving figure out unknowns" (data/ML work) and attention to detail non-creative writing code for APIs stuff.
Do you have a recommendation for that?
My Doctor [PCP] gave me "amphetamine salts" -- although I feel it's "not enough"... but I am only back on it for 3 days now.
I take 10mg in the morning immediately upon waking up. 10mg again at Noon.
I remember trying Vyvanse and feeling like I had a vice on my head... is that the "focus" feel you mention here for Ritalin?
I want to say I had some dry mouth (dry lips) with that as well. But your mention of it in the content you did has me curious to try again.
Do you have any comments on a PCP vs a Psychiatrist prescribing it? My PCP doesn't really know much about it, I had been diagnosed as a kid, teen, college kid, and adult -- so had a history of meds could show, so it was an easy prescription.

Do you take different medication based on the event that you are facing? I don’t know if I have to use one ADHD medication at a time or it’s okay to use different short release med during the day in a different time?
I agree with you that each medication is doing something different. Vyvanse makes me relax and more open to talk to people. Concerta makes me focus and able to do the hard boring ugly work that I usually avoid. In my sort experience with adhd medications I feel like I cannot rely on one medication only and this is the first time I hear that it’s possible to mix those meds. Please let me know what you do so then I can suggest the idea of using different meds to my psychiatrist.

Methylphenidate can potentially have an inhibitory effect on amphetamine if taken before it - it's due to the nature of dopamine reuptake inhibitors (eg MPH) vs dopamine releasers (eg amphetamines), though I'm not qualified say exactly how or why this is the case. I've just noticed (as well as quite a large amount of other anecdotal experiences online) that when methylphenidate is taken a few hours _after_ the peak of amphetamine, the overall effect (and total duration of therapeutic effects) of the two drugs seems to be greater, as well as more consistent & reliable.

Hello, I had been taking adderall xr 10mg for about 6 weeks and it definitely calmed me down and improved my focus to an extent, but it wasn’t the locked in focus i think I needed. Another issue I had was it took FOREVER to kick in. My doctor recently put me on 15 mg of adderall xr but I am having the same problems. I want to try a 15 mg dose of adderall instant release but instead of taking it once in the morning, I want to break the medication on the score and take half in the morning and half in the afternoon. Do you think this is a good plan and how do I talk to my doctor regarding this change in your personally experience? It is a bit awkward for me because since I am only 15 years old I might come off as med-seeking. Any help would be very much appreciated!

It's important to have an open and honest conversation with your doctor about your concerns and experiences with the medication. Explain to them that you've been experiencing the same issues with the XR formulation and would like to explore the possibility of trying the instant release version with a split dose. It's important to approach the conversation with a focus on your symptoms and how they are impacting your daily life, rather than appearing solely focused on medication adjustments. Your doctor should consider your input and work with you to find the most effective treatment plan for your needs. Remember, it's their role to help you find the best solution, so don't hesitate to communicate your thoughts and concerns.

I was on Adderall during a crucial growing period for my kids- adolescence. It took years to realize that while on Adderall, I became very calloused, not worrying about even my own children's feelings, which is the exact opposite of who I am. My kids are my world and God is my Center. I was often completely rude while on adderall but it may have had something to do with the combination of antidepressants too.
I haven't been on anything for years so I have about 787 projects sitting around waiting to be finished. I'm thinking of trying a different medication.

Your dosing was to high 😊 my dose is sat at around 40mg ( elvanse / lisdex ) and Weight 119 kg, so Thats a very low dose, it works for around 8-10 hours so all my work hours and then it fade away, afterwords my adhd is back at full and I mean full blast!!! And I love it! I have tryed with higher dosing but its not good for me, i need to fell my self and my adhd every day, or i will become either a psycopat or depressed.
I got some methylphenidate ( in usa i think its called ritalin - its short lasting 2-3 hours ) for when i really need to focus or get startet with a task do to the very low dose of vyvanse / elvanse.
Its a perfect combination for me, and my job 😊 i am an entrepreurer with 3 companys and a "few" employes and, i can mange it all do to being well medicated. - vyvanse combined with ritalin has saved my life.
My wife with ADHD and PTSD takes yvanse aswell just without the ritalin boster and is has saved her life too, she was just sitting and looking helpless into the wall every day and sleelping for over 12 hours a day before vyvanse, and Thats not healty for anyone.

Definitely worth trying a different medication but also possible to try a lower dose. American doctors in particular overdose patients a lot of the time by not first trialing low doses and just assuming you’ll function best with “more” even tho that can come with negatives like emotional blunting. Sometimes you only need a small dose to get the best results!

    • @messybuttons7525
      @messybuttons7525 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Your dose may have been too high.
Even on my dose I get some emotional blunting, but NOT in a negative way. It just makes it so I don’t focus on small negative things, or I don’t over react on small matters. So it’s a pleasant feeling
However, if I tripled my dose, I could def see it doing too much, and blunting my emotions about things that should matter
I’d try a lower dose or maybe try Vyvanse. If you’re having focus issues and it’s bothering you, keep trying.
Also be open to other diagnoses. ADHD has overlap with Bipolar, depression, anxiety, etc

I had bad reactions to ritalin in the 90's I think I was overdosed, and then it wore off and I was low. It was Brutal. I'm just now being slowly introduced to Vyvanse 10mg for a week, (currently) 20mg for a week, and I think I'm going to build to 30mg because it's seems very mild still. I'm not as focused as I feel I should be, but I am a little less distracted and confused at work. Hoping to get the right dose dialed but I'm not rushing.
I don't have a ton of experience but people seem to think it's really good. I'm still a fair bit scatterbrained though.

I remember when i was 12 I had severe ADHD and depression . My grades were horrible, i would get irritated from the slightest thing, (from what it seemed like) trapped in my head, and i would constantly get distracted by the littlest things. etc. One day, my mom went to go take a look at my grades and saw that I had an F in every single class of mine. My mom was really concerned and asked me about it. “Are you getting distracted?” “Are you getting enough sleep?” “Are you not turning things in?” or “Is it my fault for not checking up on you constantly?”
To me at that age, I could talk to my Mom about almost everything. So I told her that I was getting distracted, barely any sleep, getting extremely agitated when I wouldn’t solve a math problem correctly, and finding myself zoning out. (trapped in my head)… As soon as I spilled everything out to my mom, I could tell she was devastated. I was only 12.
A few days later she asked me if I wanted to get tested for ADHD. My mom has ADHD herself and noticed a lot of symptoms I was having, she had herself. She told me that if I did have ADHD, my doctor would prescribe medications for me so I would feel better. Of course I agreed to it because I wanted to be at peace, raise my grades, and keep my phone 😂 (because of how horrible my grades were)…
That said, a few weeks after I agreed to the testing, my mom had scheduled an appointment for my testing. To be honest, I was a little nervous at first because, No.1, I didn’t know how they were going to test me. And No.2, I didn’t know who the person testing me was nor how they were going treat me. My mom reassured me that everything would be just fine and I had absolutely nothing to be afraid of.
Once the day of the testing came, I was pulled out of school in the middle of math class. My mom and I drove an hour to the place. And believe me, that whole car ride was terrifying. We were greeted by a little old woman as soon as we stepped in the building. After a long and boring conversation with my mom, I followed the woman down a hallway into a tiny little room that looked like an office.
I had taken a seat in a chair that was facing her desk. She explained to me exactly what we were going to do and it won’t be as bad as I thought it would be. A few moments after that, the testing had begun.
She had all sorts of puzzles and packets that I had to solve/fill out. The puzzles were extremely easy. But, the packets were a whole different story. Letters and shapes were moving around all over the place. My stress level was extremely high and I eventually gave up on one of the problems. She would read problems that were my grade level out of a little book. I had to sit in that room for 3 hours! As soon as we finished, I had to go into a little room and press a button as soon as a little dot on the computer screen would move.
A few weeks after the appointment, my mom got a phone call saying that I did indeed have ADHD. But not any old normal case of ADHD.. severe.
The next morning, my mom and I drove to our doctors office. My doctor was telling me all sorts of things about what type medication fit me and what was best for me. My mom and doctor eventually settled on Concerta. I was also diagnosed with severe depression a few months prior to that appointment. So now, I was taking some sort of anti-depressant (That I don’t remember the name of,) and concerta. When I first got diagnosed with ADHD, I was only taking a 5 mg tablet every other day.
The first few months of taking a 5 mg tablet of concerta, I was doing just fine. I had no negative side affects. For example, being nauseous, extreme headaches, or loss of appetite. But on the other hand, I didn’t feel any affect at all. Again, I was only 12. So I thought I would get results overnight 😂
Some months passed and I had another appointment about my medication. My doctor was asking me all sorts of questions like, “How are you feeling?” “Have you noticed any changes since you started it?” or “How are you treating people around you? Family, friends, teachers, etc.”
Once again, I had noticed no changes in my behavior, or listening skills. So, my doctor upgraded my dose from 5 mg, to 15 mg. So a little while after I started to take a 15 mg tablet, I noticed improvement right away. I was a lot more friendlier, outgoing, and focused. But most of all, my grades improved by A LOT. I felt happy. I felt okay. I felt good.
But, things started to go downhill once my ex boyfriend and I broke up. I was so depressed. I had no motivation. I was exhausted. I was angry. But most of all, I was heartbroken.
That’s when things started to go downhill for me. A few months after I had turned 13, I wanted to see what it felt like if I took more than 1 tablet. My thoughts were, “Take 10 of them. You’ll feel good.” “It’s just for fun, you’re allowed to be curious.” or “I’m sure nothing will go wrong.” But I was so wrong about that.
One morning, I had decided to take 10x the amount of what I was supposed to take. I felt fine at first, so I headed off to middle school. I was doing just fine in math class, until it kicked in. I was anxious, my heartbeat was very fast, and my vision would randomly get blurry. But at the time, it felt amazing.
Taking too much started to only take place once a week. Then it turned into every other day. But it eventually got me, I was taking 10 tablets everyday.
One morning, I had done the usual. I would pretend to reach up for my normal amount of medication, but instead I would take 10 tablets out of the bottle. But as I was doing that, I felt my heart DROP. I ran out. I had used all of them. I was horrified. What if my mom or dad already found out they’re all gone? What am I going to do? I’m dead.
My mom had always been the one to refill my medication container every week so I was sure she already noticed. A few days later my mom approached me and said “Well, it seems we used up all of your concerta. We’ll have to wait until I need to pick up your next prescription.”
I was extremely relieved, but I learned my lesson. If I was going to keep taking too much of my meds, my parents would eventually notice a pattern of them running out way too fast, and I would be in big trouble.
Please please please do not take more than you are supposed to. You could end up in serious trouble in the end. So that was my story!:) Hope you enjoyed.

Kids in particular should NOT be left in charge of their adhd medications as an overdose is a very real threat to one’s safety. These are heavily controlled medications for a reason, I’m surprised your mother wasn’t more serious in explaining why it was dangerous rather than the indirect punishment of denying you a refill if your script.
More importantly tho your doctor should have discussed it before giving you access to meds in the first place, to try and prevent naive experiments, especially since you were just a kid and newly diagnosed!
ADHD unfortunately puts us at high risk of addiction and substance abuse. Which is why certain meds are safer options for those of us prone to abusing them impulsively like you described. Having the “need” to do it is also a sign the medication choice or dose is ineffectual, so anyone who experiences what you described should be heading back to their doctor to update their prescription to something else, rather than risking harming themselves via self medicating with doses you weren’t given approval to take.

Thanks for being informative and factual! I myself have also tried all of the stimulants for ADHD and I couldn't agree more with your points. I really REALLY like Vyvanse as well with rescue doses of Adderall IR, it's my current regime for the work week. On weekends I just take my Adderall IR as needed since, as you had mentioned too, I'm mostly in the comfort of my own home and I just want the boost for a targeted part of my day as opposed to an all day stimulant.
I'm also super happy you mentioned the rescue doses, I find there's a lot of ADHDers who have no idea it's a thing!

@Socio Socio So the extended release medication is of a lower dosage, meaning you get a steady level of such a stimulant for much longer, rather than a more potent formula for intense, but much shorter sessions. Sometimes the lower dose of the extended release medicatiom may not be enough to ward off particularly severe symptoms that may challenge you in certain scenarios in which you may find the intense, more powerful dose of medication comes in handy, thus the "rescue dose".
I'd liken it to nursing a cup of coffee all day vs chugging a red bull or some such energy drink.
I'm just looking into recieving medication for the first time myself, so I'm no expert, but I hope that clears things up for you.

I'm on Concentra, just figuring out my dosage. Amphetamines show that could be addictive and possibly make you dependant, there are also research that you will age faster so I'm reluctant to try Vyvance until I try the other options first.

@@HIDDENADHD The video in which you made connection between task and medication has helped me to make sense of a situation I experienced while sitting an exam last year. In a nutshell, the exam lasted 5 hours, and although I was very familiar with the topic at hand ( literature ) but spent a lot of time taking notes on my draft paper, however I struggled to find a way to write a coherent essay. When I realised that 1 hour was left, which is quite a lot of time, I decided to leave the examination room out of frustration. I initially put the blame on my not being prepared enough but thanks to your video, I believe that that was under the Concerta effect. I was paying too much attention to details and wanted to write a perfectly worded and perfectly structured essay , whereas I am sure that what I knew was good enough to pass. Will talk to my psychologist about switching to Vyvanse. Greetings from Paris, France. Your help goes across borders.

Thank you so much for the info. I was just diagnosed at 30 years old with ADHD and sent in paperwork to the local clinic last week. Hoping to hear back from them in the new year to begin my journey with medication.
I had questions regarding the various medications, but you helped clear things up for me. I know this is your own personal experience, but it's a nice guideline for anyone else.
Currently in construction, but will be doing plenty of homework afterwards as I am attempting to grab the last 3 credits of highschool so I can graduate and change careers to something a little more prestigious.

I can't take Concerta or Ritallin, (great for the brain, horrid to body) as I have allergies to stimulants (methenamines, Methylphenidate and opioids), never heard of the others, do you know if they would be safe to try?

    • @HIDDENADHD
      @HIDDENADHD  ปีที่แล้ว

It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before trying any new medication, especially if you have a history of allergies or adverse reactions to other medications. Your doctor can help determine if these medications are safe for you to try and can recommend alternatives if necessary.

I've been taking concerta 18mg for 3 weeks and am a week into upping my dose to 36mg. I don't feel any effects on the 36mg as I did on the 18mg, except that I feel a little less sleepy during the day and have a little more energy. The problem is that I am experiencing severe dry mouth and loss of appetite, irritability and lethargy in the evenings, and although I have energy at school, on the weekends I feel the same lethargy as before the medication, procrastinating on things I should be doing and just lying around and looking at my phone. Is this medication not working for me? Will I get better if I increase the dose? If there are a couple of you out there who have had the same experience as me, I'd love to know how you got better
