This cake came out absolutely incredible! Trust me Karolyn we don’t care about the perfect editing, we just like to see you do your magic! Have you ever considered doing live decorating videos?? That way you’re less stressed about voice overs and editing.
Thank you!! I haven't done anything like lives because I don't make one cake from start to finish. I'm always working on multiple cakes at a time, making the decorations that have to dry in advance first. I'm not sure if people were interested in just watching me work? It's kinda boring when it's not sped up and edited! I will try to figure out what I can do with that, though. So thank you for the suggestion!
That cake is so adorable! I only make cakes as a hobby for friends and family. Next weekend I have to make a cake for my grandson who is going to be 10. He wants to be a Marine Biologist and wants an ocean theme birthday cake.
Hi karolyn. I just want to tell you that your tutorials are amazing and I have learned so so much from you. Your technique are very useful. I never miss any of your tutorials. 💕 💕
You are a good teacher, I made the icing and was hard, but using my ideas (after saw you) I added a litle more Cristo and water until smooth, and at the end finally, I decorated my cupcakes and were beautiful with the buttercream. Thank you so much. My regards from Los Angeles, Ca.
What a cute cake!! would love to see a video of how you made the astronaut. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks and how many layers of cake you used for each tier.
Once again I must confess I purchased an airbrush machine many moons ago and til this day I haven’t even pulled it out the box😂… But after seeing this video I think I need to go and open that box, give this airbrush machine a try!!! Thanks for sharing😊.. The cake design is amazing I love space themed cakes, their super cute..
Thanks boo! Trust me though, they have to be edited. A lot of those full decorating tutorials have 6-8 hours of footage that I whittle down to 20 minutes!
I love it,thanks for sharing! I have 2 ab machines and when they push air out it seems fine, but once i put the color in they don't paint!! I have cleaned them very well😢
It sounds like you have a clog. I would take the gun apart and soak the entire thing in airbrush cleaner (for cake airbrushes) to see if that clears the clog.
Just to let you know karolyn I found a video where you showed how to get a deep red fondant thank you, I have a hard time trying to get pale skin colour and deep purple. .love all your info you do you busy girl.
Thanks Sharon! For a pale light skin color, I usually use a teeny bit of brown. That has a pink hue to it and looks most realistic to me! For a deep purple, I use some regal purple and add a little black. 🙌
@@KarolynsKakes Thanks Karolyn so much for replying, I certainly will try what you suggested with thd colours. Keep up your fantastic work from me your amateur cake baker..😊😊
I was wondering if down the road you could make a video that shows different airbrush techniques? I received one for Christmas but have only used it a few times. I get intimidated by it lol.
I find that if I airbrush it before it put it in the fridge it helps but definitely in the hotter months ir does become a nightmare! Love the hair btw.
Thanks boo! It sucks that when it's freezing cold and cakes don't melt, no one orders. It's only when it's hot and humid that everyone wants to celebrate! 😂
I agree having a controlled environment is key but here in Louisiana where I am, there isn’t enough air conditioning in the world during the summer to not have your cake condensate if you take it from the fridge to inside. I have to mitigate the heat and humidity by having a window unit directly in front of where I am doing my cake and even then I run into some issues. I find it better if I do it in the late evening to nighttime. Summer is crazy here. The humidity is insane.
Yes! I used to have a window A/C unit in my kitchen to help keep everything cool when it was really hot / humid. Luckily now my A/C system is brand new and works wonderfully to keep the humidity down in the house. Humidity is definitely a challenge with cakes!
Hello Karolyn I know your busy this time of the year but I was just wondering if you could please do a video on the perfect fondant cake decorating for beginners 😊
Hi, nice cake! I have a question- I wonder if you're able to answer. This is the first time I've seen someone deconstruct a buttercream cake, and I'm really intrigued as to how you managed to take the top layer off without ripping a huge hole in the bottom tier. Every single time I've deconstructed a buttercream cake, it literally rips both the buttercream and sponge (the entire cake board area). I use dowels etc. So I have no idea how to prevent this. Any tips? Thanks :)
Hi Helen! Are you using American Buttercream? That's what I use. I've never made meringue buttercream, so that could be the culprit if you're making that.
@@KarolynsKakes thanks for your response. I only use American buttercream, so it's strange. Not sure why it doesn't happen to anyone else- or maybe it does and that's why noone has videos of buttercream cakes being deconstructed haha!
Thank you so much for your videos 😚 I’ve learned more from you than any other bakers I follow and I just appreciate you so much. I just wanted to ask if you always use piping gel when applying fondant to cold buttercream. Do you find that it is better than just wetting the buttercream slightly?
You're welcome honey! I use many different mediums to stick decorations to cakes. It depends on how heavy the decoration is and what I'm sticking it to. And if it has to hang on its own or is supported by something underneath it. Some have a better hold than others. I explain in this video! th-cam.com/video/gfc0heeMRmY/w-d-xo.html
So could they look alot different because you only did one coat for the buttercream?? I think the only way we could see an accurate comparison is if you did the same amount of coats.
You could see all the imperfections in the Buttercream through the airbrushing. I didn’t want to keep spraying it since I was going to cover it. I’m sorry!
Do you ever get nervous when your about to airbrush the cake ?? I've never airbrushed a cake before but I need to now. And I'm scared I'm going to mess it up ! Lol. I've airbrushed. Just not a cake

So cute! Take a deep breath and have a great cake season!

Thank you for your videos. I've learned so much from you. My biggest problem is getting my buttercream smooth, without air bubbles.

How do you not get over spray in your house?
There was some on the countertop afterwards, but I cleaned up the area right away.
@@KarolynsKakes I found it on top of everything and used it like you did. Ugh
Is the ink edible?
Yep! It's edible airbrush coloring.
I will have my family wearing long sleeve shirts because I cut on the Air😆
I’m more cold in the Summer than the Winter! 🤣🤣
I tried using airbrush on my buttercream cake and its failed😢

Well I never refrigerate my cake before icing nor after
A lot of people don't refrigerate their cakes so you wouldn't really deal with condensation issues 😊

Sometimes! I just start light and build the color gradually. And I can cover up the mistakes like I did in this video! 😂
