    Thanks for this video you've given me a lot of information that I was looking for. Especially on what kind of butane I should buy. Found one of these lighters today and a grocery outlet in Oregon for $2.99. I think I got a steal of a deal. Once again thank you for this video and take care.

    I got one of these from a friend forever ago, the lid hinge bent after a year or so, so I chucked it and just kept it without the lid, that lighter got thrown around so much and never had problems, sometimes it wouldnt light but that's because I didn't have the lid on it and debris would get into the lighter, it finally bit the dust recently as it wont actually light anymore, it just leaks the gas out instead of being pressurized enough to have the jet effect but gonna get a new one and hope that it lasts for even longer, 100% recommend them

    Thanks for this vid, I'm really considering getting one of these or maybe the zippo single torch butane insert. There's SOOOO many offbrand torch lighters littered all over online but I hear of them either outright dying soon after using them or not working after the first time you try to refill them. This Ronson Jet Lite or the butane Zippo inserts seem the most reliable that I've seen, I suppose unless we're talking about some high dollar cigar lighters. Just don't think I'll ever be able to justify a ton for a lighter, I'll be very bummed if it fails or drops and breaks or is lost.

    Have you ever tried a metal clipper lighter? They have replaceable flints, and are refillable with butane also.
    The vintage Ronson Varaflame butane lighters are just plain sexy. It's too bad Ronson doesn't make lighters that pretty anymore.

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I haven't used a metal one but I have used several plastic models and the gas valves clogged rather quickly.✌️

    • @rhuckabee44
      @rhuckabee44 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DependableFlame I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a disposable lighter getting clogged. Are you referring to a clipper jet? The regular ones never get clogged. I don’t use the mini flame wind resistant jet lighters so not sure about them. Now torches are definitely clog prone to dirty butane.

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rhuckabee44, well they weren't disposable, they were refillable butane soft flame Clippers that were mostly made of plastic but I had two of them that were giveaways at the dispensary and quit burning after just a short time of using them. Only refueled a few times, I think that Vector fuel may be too much for some cheap lighters.✌️

    I'm not so familiar with the new wonder technology from the 1950s, that is the butane lighter. It is a piece of wonder as it runs without a wick and comes with flame strength adjustment. The design of the butane lighter also seems more complicated than the old-fashioned petrol lighter. What I am wondering though is, do butane lighters have to be bled before refilling and how long do piezo electric sparkers last? I am also curious what the first lighter with piezo electric ignition was, when it was first produced.

    • @rafaeltorre1643
      @rafaeltorre1643 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on the quality. Electronic clippers found at circle k gas stations can last decades. The piezo is solid and has almost no room to move which makes it break faster if it moves around like others. I have a 30 year old electronic clipper from circle k. It came with rust. Lol. Works like new. Lol

      @@rafaeltorre1643 thanks for the info I'm actually very intrigued with clippers and think electronic lighters are really cool just for something different. I've seen some resellers online selling those cicle k gas station clippers, going to nab some sometime. At least it's not very expensive at all to get a little lighter collection going :D

    Mine has stopped clicking with button press. What do I need to do? I can’t seem to find anything on this issue when I know has to be one of the most common. Maybe I’m just not wording my search correctly.

    • @KP-fs7kl
      @KP-fs7kl ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be due to a failure in the piezoelectric ignition that causes the spark which ignites the flame. As the creator of the video has said elsewhere in the comments, you can generally find a replacement piece in many bbq lighters that are not bic brand. The wire running from it should be plenty long enough if you source it from one of them as well being that they are so much longer.
      This issue happens because there is a plastic piece within the ignition that is prone to breaking which then prevents a metal pin from resetting correctly when the button is released. This leaves the button feeling like it's pressing up against something and not able to "click".

    The reason I prefer old butane lighters is that they stay with the valve open until you close the lid, let’s you set it burning on a nightstand for 20 seconds or so while you take your pants off and toss em in the laundry bin before bed so you aren’t throwing clothes blind.

  • @TheBootyWrangler
    @TheBootyWrangler ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One more spam comment. Ronson multi-fill is probably the most trash fuel readily available I would highly recommend switching to blu, neon, or another brand that has a minimum of 5x purges during the manufacturing process. Ittl allow your lighters to work more effectively for much much longer without issue. Like 50 years instead of a decade.
