    2 days later I watched these two teams play at my first ever MLB game. The orioles won 7-1. I was seven years old.

    Love the classic 1970's stuff, Classic MLB1! Would love to see more Orioles, Pirates, and Giants from that era. Thanks!

    Wow. First time i ever seen a video/TV clip of Reggie Jackson's "brief" stop with the Orioles. If Reggie had signed with the Birds instead of the Yankees they might have won at least 2 more world series i.e 1977 Classic AL East race and the 1979 world series vs the Pirates in period between 1977-'81.

      AmericanGiant100 Good point. I'm thinking BOS should have won the East in 1977 and 1978.

    What a shame Gibson and McCarver were never paired together in the broadcast booth!

    Reggie in a Oriole uni! YES!!

    A's traded Reggie to the Orioles for an up and coming Don Baylor and Pitcher Mike Torrez. A's finished second in the AL West for the first time in 5 years behind the Royals by just 2 games that year.

    So according to some genius at ABC, Bobby Grich is an amateur boxer, who's won 3 consecutive Golden Glove Awards. It's Gold Glove for baseball moron. Orioles should have never traded Don Baylor, for Reggie. I said it then, and I was right.

    Is that Warner Wolfe doing a Monday Night baseball game for ABC?

      MP Yes, it’s Bob Gibson

      1976 was the only season in which Wolf called Monday Night Baseball. He was originally paired with Bob Prince and Bob Uecker. Prince was gone by the fall. Wolf called the NLCS with Al Michaels and Tom Seaver. Keith Jackson and Howard Cosell called the ALCS with Reggie Jackson, and were the lead Monday Night Baseball crew starting in 1977.

    Reggie and the O’s would have been a great tandem for years.

      David Crompton He would have worn out his welcome with the team and fans. Reggie made the best decision for both the Yankees and Orioles. Even in one season, he became a cancer in the clubhouse.

      Would rather have had Don Baylor back.

    • @theprofessor8589
      @theprofessor8589 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They would have. Reggie was too much into being a 'star' and making tons of money, EGO. Just imagine him and Eddie Murray together.

      the professor I agree, however the guy has 5 WS rings and 2 WS MVPs in the 1970s. Where he went, he won. Not to mention his regular season MVP in 73.Its good to watching the stars back then. Otis, Brett, Jackson, etc. Is that Bob Gibson at the mic. ?

    • @loyaldude10
      @loyaldude10 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      he didn't even play a full season, as he was late in reporting. Obviously had no interest in playing for Orioles and his ego was huge back then

      Gene. I think (correct me if i am wrong)that is Warner Wolf the legendary local NYC TV sports anchor doing play-play and Then Just Retired HOF Cardinals Pitcher Bob Gibson as the color analyst. Wolf was also a radio play-play announcer as a young man for the Washington Senators right before they moved to the Dallas area and became the Texas Rangers.
      Brief back story on the Broadcasting team for the now Disney Channel according to various sources (I only started watching MLB around 1981-'82 lol). ABC had just gotten back broadcasting MLB that summer in 1976, after shown in some form regular season games since that network's founding in the early 1950's. Prior to '76 like Fox does now in 2018, NBC had exclusive coverage of the MLB all star game, some playoff games and the world series. Also between I think the 1966-'75 season NBC was the only network in America that showed all games shown to the whole country.
      ABC trying to copy the success of Monday Night Football with Frank Gifford, Dan Meredith and the controversial pre-game/half time host and commentator Howard Cosell hired Wolf and Hall of Fame Pirates Announcer Bob Prince as rotating play-play men. And Bob Uecker as the color analyst. That trio was a huge flop and by the time the '76 playoffs, ABC replaced Wolf/Prince/Uecker as the lead team with legendary college football announcer Keith Jackson as play-play and Cosell as Pre game Host/In Game Commentator. Guest analysts such as then current players Reggie Jackson and Tom Seaver would be serve that role until Don Drysdale took over that role by the 1978 season.
      Al Micheals a then kid announcer who was already working for CBS TV during the NFL season on lower tier games(mostly in the Midwest and California) and I think the Cincinnati Reds during the MLB season was hired as the backup MLB TV play-play man. By 1983 Micheals became the lead voice for MLB (and also Monday Night Football for almost 20 years)off/on until ABC lost the MLB contact for good by the end of the 1995 season. Hope this explains ABC stint in their MLB contract.
