Bolero has taken over because Tata has stopped producing cars like Sumo. Now they want to produce Curvy, Bloated Hatchbacks and call them SUVs because its in trend.
The archaic retro SUV with body on frame chassis is appealing to the traditionalists with a masquerading road presence. And Tata Sumo doesn't holds any discrepancy in this aspect🔥

We have Sumo victa 2008 model. This car is love. We have 2008 model still running awesome. Traveled across many states in India. Still going great 9 people sit comfortably best view.
Same here dude. We have a 2006 sumo victa and that car is legendary. No engine problems till now and works perfectly fine. The engine gives the real feel of a SUV with the grunt of it. A perfect car.

I am mechanical engineer and I have Tata sumo gold EX CR4 common rail 3.0 litre engine from 2012 december, practically for off road farming works and highway use for family. I was surprised that in 10 years she never disappointed us in terms of Ground clearance, Power, pick up, Performance, practicabilty. I was regularly drive my Sumo Gold from Nagpur to Pune, only with Sumo Gold I have confidence seating arrangement very tall, we can easily see roads. Audis BMWs Mercedes decrease their sppeds on bad roads, Sumo can easily manage bad roads with high speeds. Empty vehicle is little bouncy but when it's full with luggage and 9~10 persons. Ride is more comfortable like sedans. It can goes upto 120-130 kmph. AC is very powerful. I was satisfied with car and no plans to replace it. Because all of our requirements of bigger family huge luggage carrying capacity is fulfilled by this one only. Owning this car is one of the best decision of my life for having such Reputed and Real metal "Tata ka Loha" It consist 3000 cc engine which is not a joke, Torque is Way better than any other chinese plastics products.
Good to see you review this legend vehicle, i used to own sumo gold, after it has done 2.2 lakhs km i sold it but now i regret it, it was a hardcore adventure vehicle for me, with that famous tata 3.0 dicor bs4 engine (refined in its time), it has raw pulling power with massive 300mm diameter clutch, it handles every jungle trail, mountain obstacles i have gone through, it has zero turbo lag, at just 1000rpm, full 250nm torque is unleashed. I'd say, Sumo Gold cr4 was the best sumo ever, not even Grande comes close to this, Victa however is not as impressive because of that smaller Peugeot sourced engine. If you can get your hands on sumo gold cr4, it would be interesting to see a review, because it is a completely different animal altogether.
I visited Sikkim last month, and this car is a very popular taxi car there. The taxi guys fit 10 passengers in the car in 2+4+4 configuration, all super cramped and uncomfortable and drive like complete madlad.
Here in jk they make a person sit with them on driving seat as well So its basically 4+4+4 people including driver. Kinda scary though, reason for lot of accidents.
This SUV is an absolute workhorse. If you visit Darjeeling hills, you will see 90% of SUVs are SUMO GOLD ruling the himalayas even after discontinuation.

Fun fact : Sumo 3.0 engines & other key mechanicals are shared with Tata 407 itself, even today, alongside some other light trucks. And putting out all the 250 Nm torquey goodness at just 1000 rpm is the USP of this 3.0 engine.

Hey Faisal, this Tata Sumo is turbocharged as the intake manifold is linked to the intercooler via the red rubber/silicon joint.
