- We take a lot of pride in our thumbnails, but they haven't always been great. Marques and our graphic designer Tim look back on old MKBHD thumbnails that never made their way to a Photoshop project.

I swear I could still make thumbnails in Gimp if I had enough time to remember all the controls 😅
do it, you won’t
You did good for the utilities/software you had
Seriously try make one of your next video thumbnails in GIMP, see if we notice!
Okay
New video idea
My favorite part of the video is the top quality animations for the revisions. So smooth and clean that I almost took it for granted.
They're so good! And they probably took a team member a while to do them. The knife animating and leaving a cut on the phone. That's slick.
So much time expended on the little things. That is what makes this whole team so amazing!
I’m honestly not sure if my fav channel is studio or MKBHD! I am a sucker for this BTS and less structured stuff
You & me both😅
What is BTS?

Tim giving honest reviews is insane. Your boss is right next to you and yet you're honest and yourself. That's what I love about this studio group.
A lot of people have the power to do this more than they realize.
Being a fan/subscriber of the channel since the early days, this video hit me hard. You can see the sadness in Marques’ eyes when the lg flex thumbnail gets brought up. For a channel that hit Samsung so hard for the fake moon pictures, having ultra processed images that simply don’t exist in real life rubs me the wrong way. On the other hand, he’s doing so well that he can afford to pay a person exclusively to create thumbnails. Insane flex.
I really enjoy the animated mock-ups of a more modern versions of old thumbnails!
Did I roast Marques enough or nah
There's still time ⏳🔥
🐐
Ur thumbnails are 🐐🐐
down with gimp! 😂
Tim is the type of person who'll pat you on the back after he verbally eviscerates you
I like the old thumbnails, I can just remember when TH-cam wasn't full of crazy faces as thumbnails
yea we rlly need to get back to that
There is a firefox extension called "Clickbait remover for TH-cam" that replaces thumbnails with a shot from the video.
Great design work, Tim! That F-150 Lightning piece was definitely incredible. It deserved to be blown up in a magazine.
This video, together with the wvfrm podcast, made Friday officially my best day of the week
Right?! I watched waveform today 15mins after it was published and it made my Friday evening much better.
I'm about to start this video 😊
@melissa.deklerk would it be weird if I said I sometimes listen to the audio podcast, then watch the video 😅
@@jefiyeoh I understand! Sometimes you absolutely have to see the facial expressions and the interaction between the guys. It adds so much to the entertainment value.
@@melissa.deklerk yeah
Gotta love Tim. He is so humble 21:00
Tim talking about how he felt affirmation after the thumbnail went viral,
Meanwhile Marques: BICEP
Tim you are a genius, and a great addition too the team. You make everything we see, visually appealing. Keep up the good work 🎉🎉🎉
As a graphic designer these types of videos inspire me ! Keep up the great work
21:18 My boy Marques showing off his guns 🤣
Tim - You are really good at what you do. 👍🏼
Andrew - Tim 🐐 - Marquez: This was good, thank you. Great team; great concept. Looking forward to more.
I love MKBHD channel videos, but Studio videos are extremely wholesome and fun!
It was seriously so cool to see the process behind both of their final products. Amazing work, gentlemen 🤙🏼
As a graphic designer with about 15 years of experience in my career...I shared the cringe with Tim when Marques was describing his old process!
Reminded me of when clients or developers would try to do my job for me back in the day.
I had to learn Jedi Master level restraint! 😂
That being said, MKBHD's old thumbnails still look good despite the bootleg process.
I'd love to see the break down of how Tim did the Ford Lightning edit. I did the same thumbnail with my Model Y review, and I had troubleling up the car between the different shots.
I personally love Tim's messages icon because when I see it, and I've already seen it, I want to rewatch it, just the thumbnail really draws me in
Marques is one of the only TH-camrs that doesn't look ugly or awkward in the thumbnail.
Tim is crushing this!
shout out Tim- we see u, we love u, and of it wasn't for ur work, we woudn't watch the videos in the first place
"Did you make my bicep look bigger?" lmao Marques please 😂
This insight is so incredibly important for those of us trying to start creating. Thanks so much for sharing! Also love how most of Tim's input is how each edit made him feel. Its not all about the data or the analytics; even talented pros like Tim have moments of self doubt which is so reassuring to hear.
This video is another example of why videos on this channel are rewatchable. So interesting to get these little reveals about how the small unsung details of a video come together - 8 hour edit of a photograph! That picture of the city reflected on the back of the phone, seeing how much the details and workflow have changed. Great 👍🏾
Love this video! Thanks Tim for your hard work, and humility.
These Studio uploads always fills the fun part I'm missing from the informative and super interesting videos on the main channel and waveform podcast. Love it.
So interesting to see how your thumbnails have evolved. Also the whole visual identity of The Studio channel is SO nice! Love it!
I love how humble and great of a boss, Marques is. TBH, watching those old videos, I really enjoyed Marques's thumbnails a lot at the time. It was still a level above everyone else and with Tim joining and The Studio talent expanding that quality of work has just kept on increasing. Kudos to you all!
I didnt expect to like this video as much as i did! We need more Tim content and he needs some more positive affirmation! He's great at what he does! 🏆
The motion graphics in these are top notch 👌
Tim's work is actually so inspiring, I've checked out his Instagram and his page and the things he did/does are pretty cool. I'm glad he gets to express his thoughts and his work because most of the time the work he does on videos just doesn't get the praise it should. Keep up the great work!
Such a good choice to include the revised version of the thumbnails. Appreciate it so much
MKBHD thumbnails are next level, kudos Tim!!!
Thanks guys! Love all your videos
Love this video, great dynamic between you 2
👍 Nicely done, Tim (and these kinds of "behind the scenes" always fascinate me)
We want more of such videos, absolutely enjoyed watching!
We love your work tim! Keep going! ❤
This video was fun to watch. Big-ups Tim!
Love these kinds of topic! It’s super interesting to watch!!!
This was a great video! Thumbs up for Tim 😊 Awesome job on the thumbnails!
Loves this - as a graphic design student this is super insightful!
Man I love this channel and your team!
Tim's thumbnails never miss, all of them feel very modern MKBHD
Great work Tim! I use photoshop and gimp for architectural rendering so I know how difficult your work can be. Especially when there's time constraints. Your thumbnails are generally awesome. Definitely keep up the good work!
Great work, Tim!
I love the crackhead energy and editing when Marques says, “For a little extra pop”😂 @10:43 made me laugh so hard for no reason, made my day. Long time fan! Great video, as always! ❤
Awesome work Tim!
Always fun to watch these 😁
Tim's got talent! Making it all look so easy. A hunky nerd - who knew!!
*Thanks for the video!*
Awesome bunch of talented people. Thanks for sharing.✌️💯
Oh boy more for these type of content please ❤
It's crazy that Marques was making thumbnails in GIMP! I use that for all of my thumbnails and although some things aren't accessible from PS, it's still a reliable software I'd recommend!
14:34 Tim explaining how he worked so hard on the thumbnail.
Marques: C+ ☠️
Love the work Tim 👌🏽🔥
I've been waiting for this video since Andrew dropped the bomb in a podcast that marques literally edits his thumbnails in Final Cut
i do my thumbnails in Davinci.. Awesome to see Tims and Marques insights behind these seemingly simple thumbnails. There's much to learn
I'm surprised by the work that goes in to make the defining picture that actually makes or breaks ur videos. Big up to TIM. Love the work you do.
Great work Tim!!
Cool to see the alternate thumbnails
A good in-house graphic designer is a must. Nice work Tim.
Man I love this team so much!
Love the recent uploads!
I love the aesthetic of the studio thumbnails
This was a dope video i love the studio
Roasting your boss!! We need more of this at the work place!!😂
Wow those two car thumbnails had a lot of stuff comped out.... nice job!
This really makes me curious as to when certain members of the studio started working for MKBHD now that we have a timeline that the M1 iPad Pro thumbnail is Tim’s first
Loved this soo much
GIMP DAYS OMG! THE INTERNAL RAGE, I FEEL FOR TIM! Graphic design buds! Just goes to show Designers are essential for amount of time and thinking behind each art. *chef's kiss!* the great designers are always so humble 21:00
Thanks Tim for inspiring a newer generation of Graphic Designers ❤️
Tim is underrated. I love his edits.
I love The Studio channel!
Great work Tim ✨👌🏽
Dude where can I get that magnet lamp thing in the video, it looks sick
Cool! Thanks for sharing it ✌️
1:41 LMAOOOOOOO
Gimp is a good free alternative - photopea is a GREAT free 'alternative'.
These animations 😍
amazing video want more parts of it
Good work mate Tim 😍
Tim good job
Making graphics and thumbnails isn’t an easy job
Ayeeee Tim's on again
Ah, I love this channel so much. Maybe more than the main one. 😮
this was gas man
Marques using GIMP is definitely a surprise.
So helpful, just reviewing my thumbnails! and funny
Making thumbnails in Final Cut Pro is WILD lmao
Tim using the term gear was unexpected and cool
Great job Tim!
Well done Tim!
Oh, and let's remind ourselves that Tim made the thumbnail of this video
Big ups, Tim 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
give this man a raise
Two thumbs up for Tim! 👍👍
I'd love to see what they'd both come out with if they tried to make a thumbnail in canva
