    Had the pleasure of meeting both Kim Hartman (Helga) and Richard Gibson (Herr Flick) at a convention in Sweden a couple of days ago, and when I was about to pose with them for a photo I presented myself to Kim with "Your highness," and Richard said, in his Flick voice, "She IS quite high." lol
    They were both really great and wonderful people in real life. Two of the sweetest celebrities I've ever met, and thanks to these two characters they're also tv comedy legends.

    Could be a viola. As a player, I enjoy spotting how well actors fake playing. I believe Richard was really playing, even with gloves on. The bowing is spot-on and perfect for the tone.

    • @londonalicante
      @londonalicante 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I assumed he wasn't really playing and that the fact that he was wearing gloves was a rather good additional joke.

    • @iDuckman
      @iDuckman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@londonalicante I'm sure the sound track is over-dubbed. The gloves are a wee bit too much (and clearly a joke). But I'm willing to bet that he does play.

    • @hughcdavies
      @hughcdavies 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'd agree Richard can play, those are the correct notes, unlikely it is the original sound as he's wearing gloves, but that doesn't mean it's not him over dubbing himself.
      However I'd guess it's Nigel Kennedy playing. NK was mega at that time. I'll have to research this.

  • @Darkstar263
    @Darkstar263 14 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I stand corrected, I just looked it up and apparently that theme that Herr Flick plays when Helga strips was actually made in 1962, by someone called David Rose.
    But yes, it is a well known song for strip teases. Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft must've just used it for comedic effect.

    • @russs7574
      @russs7574 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David Rose recorded "The Stripper" in 1958, and it was released in 1962. It hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July, and was the #5 record of the year.
      It was also used in an ad campaign for Noxema Shaving Cream in the late 60's. The ads featured this song accompanying shots of a guy shaving, and a Swedish model saying, "Take it off. Take it all off." (meaning the guy's beard).
      It would have been the series of ads before the ones which featured Joe Namath and an unknown (at the time) Farrah Fawcett as "Creamy."
