With regards to the DPH with the cone clutches, many people treat the joystick same as a bow thruster off and on wrong! It is variable speed its like a throttle. Select joystick move it in direction intended and throttle it move lever to its extreme and back again. Sure if you release it it goes into neutral, when you select again cone clutch re-engages and selection bang. Enjoy.
I have one in my commercial crab boat,I really do like this drive. one thing I will say is the electrical stuff really scared me. but we’ll see over the years how it goes. This drive is butter smoothe to shift. also during long trips you can watch the temp of the outdrive the whole time..
Hi Ted . .. thanks for the great videos. Is the stern assembly mount pattern the same as the DPH drives? Looking to future re-power from D4-260s with DPH_A drives to new D4s with DPI drives. Or . . . will we need to re-build the transom?
Probably nice and smooth shifting for the first owner who gets the boat serviced for him at the local marina. But how will it be for the second and third owner 10-15 years down the road?
It appears to be a proven clutch design handed down from IPS units. So I would the clutchs will last as long as the seals in the drive hold up, and with VP that will be decades for the average boater.
I see you have a passion for the Volvo’s....any chance you can do a video of the new v8 5.3l heat exchangers? A dissassembly and re-installation of those heat exchangers on the newer v8’s seems to be a tricky event.....good channel, keep up the good work!
What is the best way to get a service manual for the DPI? Dealers that I've called do not want to sell anything for our D6-340 with DPI 1.69 any help is appreciated.
I build those transom assemblies :) Proud to be part of the Volvo Penta team.

Yes, the new changes are very much needed. Keep up on the service, gear lube and now a filter due it's hydraulic shift.
How has the DPI been on your comercial vessell. How many hours so far?
Really like these drives, have just had two fail at 2000 hours, which is impressive in comparison to the old DPH.
That's good info. How often was the gear oil changed? It would be interesting to see if more frequent change intervals extends their lifetime time
Olá tudo bem ! A nova rabeta DPI já vem com os filtros instalados ?

Sorry for the delay, I believe the TSK cut out is the same

How many hours is VP expecting to get out of these drives? Thank you for the video.

Thank you for the compliment! I will put that on my video list.

Thank you!
Strange that they dont use that much anode's because they are prone to corrosion
The bonding wires are the key to corrosion prevention. I believe the anodes are sufficient if the drive bonding and paint is maintained.
