  • Yes I am working on the the South Downs Way v2 video, it's edited up to the final day, but working out how to top and tail it - but I am like ‪@RickBeato‬ fascinated by the hand-wringing and reaction to prominent TH-camrs like Tom Scott (who I am subscribed to on my other channel) and MatPat quitting the platform - so I share my one secret to TH-cam success ;-)
    So I thought I'd make a quick video about it - really testing my little Boya mic the BY-V10, which in some ways I prefer to it's big brother, as it's simpler and still sounds pretty good. It's no Rode Wireless Go or DJi wireless mic, but it's a fraction of the price. Recommended.
    Boya BY-V10 amzn.to/47RKbBC - mine is the USB-C version, but it comes in a iPhone lightnig version, which with my current luck, I accidentally ordered! Hence why it wasn't in the Flextail Video as planned.

    Just discovered your channel this afternoon, you seem like a really honest and down-to-earth creator - thoroughly enjoying working my way through your videos, cant wait to see more of your adventures (on your own schedule, ofc).
    Do your own thing, enjoy putting out the content you want to make, when and how you want to make it.
    Keep it real, and stay true to yourself.
    Thats what you're showing the world - not trying to sell us all the latest gadgets and gizmos like so many others seem to be doing and its a really refreshing thing to find on here.

    I fell in the same kind of rabbit hole but quickly stopped and found which ones were really relevant.

      A few are...the ones that deal with psychology, or actual content. But most of them are parasitically exploiting people's fears, and making them worry about stuff that actively puts people off making videos. After all - the best advice is 'keep going, keep making videos' - pouring over stats - which are misleading - and stressing over numbers and thumbnails is contrary to that.

    I really enjoyed hearing your take on this subject. I hadn't noticed those negative comments on your previous videos... Such a waste of effort making negative comments 😞 I for one enjoy your art videos over the gear reviews, but that doesn't mean the reviews aren't useful. The tight rope walk of filming what you like vs what viewers want is awfully difficult and made so much harder by the mystery of the almighty algorithm 😅 That said, great video with some nice editing! Keep up the good work 👍

      @harduphiker  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually hide them because I don't want the negativity to 'infect' my other comments...I want to keep things nice. I don't mind disagreement, but if people are starting with 'you're crap' then there's not much of anywhere to go from there, really.
      Thanks for the nice ocmments, yes I was trying a few new things in this video, as always trying to switch it up :-)

      @@harduphiker It's always worth trying new things. That's an excellent way to grow and learn. I'm always trying new ideas on my channel. This has actually given me ideas for videos of my own that I'd like to try... And when you're inspiring others you know you're doing something right 👍

      @@CampingRulesOkay thank you! I do hope to inspire people to get out there and make stuff, that's always been one of my aims...educational as much as entertainment (even if it's quite often 'don't do it like me!')

    i just make the videos with the mindset of if ppl like them they will watch and subscribe. i prefer natural channels even if they do make mistakes etc 👍

      Same. I find a lot more interest in smaller channels these days, it's more individual and personal; whereas the bigger channels become like corporations - not exactly faceless but you're one of a number, it's less direct.

      I think if you believe in what you’re saying and want to share it with people, I think it’s the best thing to do. I know a fair bit about organic gardening: mostly growing vegetables and I go on sites to learn new things and share my experiences. A few times now, I have offered advice about how to do something that works 100% of the time, saves work and time. I was mostly insulated and told I don’t know what I’m talking about. I was hurt, shocked, annoyed and demoralised and decided not to bother. That lasted a couple of months and then I thought: if someone is struggling and asks for advice, I’ll give it. I expect to be insulted by ignorant people who haven’t tried what I advise and to be told I’m stupid. I’ve come to the conclusion that those people are always going to be there, but the true enthusiasts are going to search and try things for themselves. That’s how I learned new things: doing the research and trying it out before knocking it or insulting someone. Please don’t be discouraged if your channel hasn’t got a million subscribers. You’re not one of the sheep. Stick to your guns, believe in yourself, stay honest and keep doing what you’re doing now. There’s so many people offering incorrect advice that they heard someone else say and most people just follow the crowd. Truth is quite unpopular. I am sorry I’m rambling, but I don’t want to see someone with integrity like you get discouraged by all that shallow crap. I only found your channel just now and already subscribed before I saw this video and I just wanted to reach out and encourage to keep going. Sorry for the long speech. All the best.👍

    If you love what you do it will show in your videos and viewers like me will spot that.
    Some big turn-offs for me... people asking me to subscribe 10 seconds from the start, no, I want to watch the video first to see if i like it, ask me at the end by all means.
    Secondly, "todays video is sponsored by" followed by a 30 second spiel about a product. I normally turn off at that point.
    Finally, let your surroundings star in the videos too. Ive watched so many videos of people camping in some great landscapes but the focus is entirely on themselves and the viewer doesn't get a feel for the place.
    I hope my thoughts might be helpful to you, that is the intention but I won't be offended if they're not.
    The main thing is you enjoy your activities and filming them and hopefully others will too. 👍👍

      Yes I have gotten the feedback about 'show the scenery' before, hence a lot of the photos here. There are technical issues with doing that, cos to stop and get the tripod out or stop and film the scenery really slows down the hike. Walk and talk is fine....ish within certain technical issues (selfie pole, shake, etc - hence some of this being a little cutoff as I was using my arm cos..well...no space in a tent, or to stop and get the stick out mid hike).
      I quite like using stills for cutaways in this video. I usually briefly stop and take photos, I could use more of those.

      Of course, you know the technical difficulties better than me and i can see how filming would slow your progress. It's just nice to see & get a feel for the locations you're at. Stills are fine by me.
      The videos of yours I've seen so far are good, that's why i subscribed, and I'm not being critical, as a non video maker i have no right to be.
      It's just my reason for wild camping is the scenery, nature & wildlife.
      I'm sure you'll get a good many views as you go along. 👍👍

    Only 1 minute in but see what you are saying and kinda agree - If you create content for the audience then you will suffer as a creator as it probably won't be fun.

    • @sparker68
      @sparker68 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But the key here is to only make video's you enjoy making otherwise you will suffer.

      Exactly, I see a lot of chasing other people's bandwagons, racing other people's race rather your own - and a lot of duplicated content. It's boring!
      Like one channel I follow actually suggested using the site 1 of 10 to copy small channel's ideas that have gone viral, Like...get your own?
      Apparently even MrBeast does this.
      That's just lazy, depressing, and parasitical. There's inspiration and credit - which these channels never do, they don't even say 'hey I got this idea off X' - which at least would help a smaller creator get some love? I suspect this happened with my Titanium video, I suddenly saw Hiking TH-cam talk about the subject when they never had before, even dupe my thumbnail style! I assumed it was coincidence until I saw that video about 1 in 10 and multiplier factors.
