  • Join me on an epic adventure as I tackle the South Downs Way, a 100-mile trail from Eastbourne to Winchester. But can I do it in cold early January in the Big Freeze? And can I do it in 7 days?
I'll be facing the challenge of winter camping and pushing myself to complete the trail in under seven days. Don't miss out on the stunning landscapes and unpredictable weather as I strive to reach my destination. Subscribe now and follow my journey!
There will be one installment a week. Art, hiking, wild camping, snow (!), ice, getting lost, random sheep and cows, The Search For The Lost Tap, it has it all.
The first day takes me from the station, along the coast (SCENIC ROUTE!) via Beachy Head, Birling Gap and to Cuckmere Haven.
Also as always long term reviews of the gear I use - the first use of the Windhike/Naturehike/Flaming Creed R5.8 mattress, and first proper outing for the Osprey Rook 65L. How will they fare?
You want to know how this started? The entire South Downs Way - now in a playlist!

Gear used - as always, Amazon affiliate links, but there are cheaper places, so if I save you some money with my reviews please donate some of that to ko-fi.com/tjbarts as this channel in 100% independent, self-funded, no sponsors, no deals. All reviews are my own thoughts.
    Lanshan 3Ful 2 4 season tent: amzn.to/3Ud1EBc - cheaper? on Aliexpress?
Osprey Rook 65L amzn.to/497ZNBM - got mine in a sale
R5.8 Sleeping Pad - amzn.to/47TGgEe - mine is Flaming Creed, same deal, get it on Aliexpress if you can

You're a braver man than me hiking/camping an exposed area like that in January. Respect.
I tend to confine my winter trips to valleys or forests (just done 5 days in The Forest of Dean) where i can find shelter.
Good luck and may the weather be kind to you. 👍👍

Thanks! Yes it was not planned, I ran out of light....I wanted to camp in a forest (and indeed do that later in this series) but just was about an hour late to get inland. This is the issues of stopping and filming -although the footage looks better, I did less of that the rest of the trip as a result not wanting to repeat this!

How wierd... My son, Ethan, had me buy him some of those pork snack things today. I'd never seen them before and now I see you having them. 🤯 I like the shorter format and I appreciate the effort put into the edit on this one, lots of nice litttle touches. Can't wait for the next installment! 👍

Hang in there! Even if you just go a bit further than last time, that's progress! I'm holding off on the air mat.. waiting with bated breath...

Is it the first part of a series? Or more like an outtake or trailer of your longer video?

First part of a series. Day 1..I guess people don't read descriptions? ;-)

I got a lot of comments from people that my videos are 'too long' so hence breaking it up into parts. I don't think people would watch 1 hour of this at once.
