    A few more things i didnt see you mention is that they are waterproof, if you get the drill/impact combo it will not include the small "pencil" box, on the large tool box , one w/ the black carring handle, the handle has a safety that will lock the cover, also you cut a 5/8 plywood to divide it in half

    Great presentation, thank you for posting it! If I may add a few pros and cons you didn't address in your otherwise outstanding video.
    In no particular order: I bought the Packout System to use as my range caddy for shooting sports. Because I will often be pulling my gear over soft gravel and sand, one priority for me was wide diameter wheels. This offers less rolling resistance through soft material (it also provides better leverage when traversing stairs.) The Packout Rolling Toolbox has the "tallest" diameter wheel I could find and seems to have the best mobility in these situations. A significant con of the Rolling Toolbox: The handle does not retract fully into the box (like your carry-on luggage does ) and this makes the box too bulky to fit into sedan trunks. P/U and SUV owners can disregard but if you’re a car owner, you'll have to store this in the back seat when traveling.
    I use a lot of paper media (targets, range cards, notebooks) and this was the only system I could find that offered total water resistance. I was using Husky before and it did not have a good seal and dampness would ruin my paper medium if kept in the box for extended periods.
    Con: Price. Other than some of the “mil-spec” stuff that’s out there, this is the most expensive system on the market. If you're buying three or more Packout components, you're going to be looking at $300. Husky runs 60% less for a system of similar storage capacity. Conversely, the customization of this system is superb and I feel you make up value there.
    Finally, look to Home Depot or Lowes before making your purchase online. I'm a huge Amazon Prime user and this is one of those extremely rare products that was much less expensive to purchase at my local "brick-and-mortar" store.
    Stay Safe & Stay Strong,
    Boston

      Awesome! I didn’t even consider using it for a range box! That’s a great idea! Thanks for the well thought out comment!

      You know, I too was turned off by the price in the past. Over the past two years I have casually looked at them in the stores and on videos. I have been using Ridgid's boxes and really like them. But, I finally decided to take a dip into the Packout pool. I picked up the smallest of the tool boxes, Model# 48-22-8424. Not cheap in price by any means at almost $80.00. I stopped at the local Home Depot on my way to work and didn't really get a chance to check it out until I got home that evening. It's funny how much different it was once I got it home and was able to see and compare it next to my Ridgid 22" box. You really can't compare the two, the Packout box is just so much better built. Yeah I paid over twice the price, but the Packout box is about twice a heavy and part of a system that is more customizable. Now I know this sounds like I am bashing Ridgid, but I am really just trying to make a point about the price, because I was actually thinking about returning the Packout box. Not because it is bad in any way, but because it doesn't really fit my tool needs. I'm not in the trades, I every now and then will do an odd job for someone.
      The Packout box is so much heavier than my Ridgid box, I wouldn't want to fill it with tools because of the weight. My Ridgid boxes have been holding up fine for the past three to four years, and they look to keep on going good. The only thing I don't like about Ridgid is that you don't have drawers. When I bought the Packout 22" box I also planned on and still plan on getting the Packout drawers, and a dolly that Milwaukee sells, not the Packout cart or dolly. There is a pretty good Milwaukee 4-wheel convertible dolly that I like that I want to use with a Packout 22" XL tool box, one or both of the Packout drawers, and another small 22" tool box, I found a use for the one I purchased. I have a 25 year old Milwaukee hammer drill that needed a new home, so I am now going to store it in there, plus it has room for other accessories I have and use with the drill.
      So I am still going to use my Ridgid set, but I do have some future plans for a Milwaukee setup. I can talk myself into spending money on things I want, not necessarily for things I need.

    FYI: Milwaukee's nomenclature for the 'small attachments' on the PACKOUT™ system is 'Cleats'.
    It will be interesting to see how durable these 'cleats' are after months and years of being dragged, dropped, and sitting on jobsites and inside vehicles....and if they'll still snap together correctly as they wear.

    • @TheDurbinCompound
      @TheDurbinCompound  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. They are pretty durable and there is a lot of plastic there. Only time will tell though. There is no such thing as bad plastic, just bad applications of it.

    Yeah I loaded up on the system this season, also check out Milwaukees non packout box that's like the mid size parts holder, it is NOT a packout but at $19 you can use it as a tool carrier etc... Take a multi-tool and remove the hard partitions as needed...I also saw someone selling a conversion kit to make it a packout, but it was expensive, I am thinking just cut some blocks like the bottom of a packout and screw them on..good review thanks, hoping to see some mods

    I just got this. Been wanting it since milwaukee came out with it a few years ago. It was never for sale anywhere and about 7 months ago ended up buying the dewalt tough system. Bad Idea. I do comercial furniture installation and handyman work in comercial buildings. The tough system couldnt hold up to riding in a covered box van and rolling around on carpeted floors in office buildings. A wheel fell off the first day i used it. The pins in the hinges always needed pushed back in. The latches have tiny screws and cheap washers that are hidden unless you flip it over that are screwed into to the plastic that constantly fall out causing the entire latch to fall off. The clips that hold the smaller boxes to the lid constantly fall off. The entire back of the box has a giant crack down it. So i finally scored a packout. I am very happy. And anyone trying to decide between the two i can guarantee you will be unhappy with the tough system after a few months unless you do very light duty work.

    You cannot unlatch when attached together, but just unattaching and moving the upper box, then you will be able to latch the underbox.
    You don’t need to split everything apart.

    Jeez-a-lou!!! I'm still working out of Plano 20" tool boxes that I bought on sale for $1.99 after mail in rebate at Menards about 20 years ago. Disclaimer: I'm not a professional, just a handy finger-banger. Nice tool stack, but now I know why professional carpenters used to make their own custom wooden toolboxes...think I'll do the same.

      @@TheDurbinCompound I can see that they're extremely nice and organized and for a professional, well worth it. I'm a bit of a low-bucker, and have scored several barely used Milwaukee corded tools from the late 90's on the cheap and I'm looking to organize them in my garage using large tool boxes so I can also easily take them with in my truck when I've got a project. After looking at what's available I'm beginning to think that building something with 1/2" plywood is the best solution for me. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of the Plano boxes and they've held up well. I'll continue using them for plumbing, electrical, and my measuring tools. I've even got 2 under the back seat of my 2006 GMC K1500 Ext. cab as they fit perfectly. One has mechanic's tools and the other is a general tool box with a cheap, cordless drill as the only power tool. You wouldn't believe what I've been able to to with just the hand tools in that little box.

    • @tomj528
      @tomj528 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@letsgonow5641 There are a lot of less expensive options available that may also fit your needs better. Personally, I have a large Plano tackle box that's roughly 25 years old and for going in the boat a double layer Plano storage box holds more than I'll ever need. I use 3 rods with my 3 favorite lures that I use 85% of the time and I only lose a lure every few years. I'm still mourning the loss of the large jointed Rapala minnow that I had since the mid 80's that I lost 2 summers ago. I noticed that my line was nicked but I was hitting a particularly good spot on my drift so I decided to take a few more casts before cutting out the bad line and re-tying my leader (STUPID) when a large Musky hit and broke my line right where it was nicked. It was a particular favorite of mine and I had taken many fish with it over the years...RIP. I only have to go into the storage box a few times/year in the boat and almost never into the tackle box. As with most things, less is more and clearly even I'm over equipped.

    Nice video. I went with Ridgid Pro System, but hope to buy one Packout stack too to compare and contrast. I would like to attempt an adapter (3D printing) so a stack could be mixed and matched between the 2. Colors would clash, but would be cool as Packout is expensive, Ridgid is cheaper, yet don't have some of the cool containers Packout has.....
    Someone on a budget could buy the Ridgid main system and some of the extra containers Packout.

    Just watched it, regarding the 4 slots in those square boxes at the beginning of the video ... I can't think of anything small right now that you would put in such a small square box when you're in construction ... So I guess the reason why you have 4 slots inside those square boxes is just to have a longer lifespan.
    So if a slot breaks for any reason, you can just flip that divider and continue to use it ... Just my thoughts.
    Good video though.

    what is your opinion on the locking mechanisms for each unit? I bought the Husky version of this and the plastic locks on the bottom/side of each piece worn out fairly quick, and MORE IMPORTANTLY when the unit stacked/locked unit would ride in the bed of my truck on its back (where it probably spends most of its time) it wold put a lot of force on these locks. If I buy the Milwaukee unit do you believe each piece will remain locked?

You know my low pro organizers (all of them) lock it fine but are not as tight as the other boxes. They kinda have some play in them. 🤔 I’m trying to figure the best way to line up my 15g/18g w/ 2 batteries. They fit just not amazing. If you fiddle you can get the latch to close while stacked. I do that all the time unintentionally 😆

      Exactly what I did. The 3 stack is definitely worth it. I really like the Kaizen foam but I feel that it wastes a lot of space. I come from an aviation background where “all tools accounted for” is essential. Foam is great for that purpose but you lose a ton of space for other tools.

    Thanks for sharing. If you cut halfway through the middle of two of the dividers, you should be able to split a compartment into 4 without using glue. Just a tho't: I have not done this. FYI..I do have one of the thicker organizers and the boxes do not mount on the top. They will not even sit level on the top for the most part. Great idea, though. It'd be real slick, even if it cost 10-15% of the usable storage space. Rgds.

    In addition to your Jan 24th video for modifying the Packout bins to quads (th-cam.com/video/rhHlL-pwBHA/w-d-xo.html), it looks like some people are 3D printing their own bins in a variety of configurations ... 3, 6, even unequal quad partitions (th-cam.com/video/Kr_q6rWOKHY/w-d-xo.html). The notion that you might even color code the bins (outside of the Milwaukee red) is kind of interesting.

      @@TheDurbinCompound thanks man one more question. how well do you think the big box with wheels would hold up to a 300 lb guy sitting on it? Job sites tend not to be too accommodating at break time. :)
      Also, I have the rigid set and it sucks trying to roll it over extension cords. I think wheel size is a factor. The rigid has much smaller wheels than the milwaukee. Do the milwaukee wheels get it over extension cords easy?

    • @TheDurbinCompound
      @TheDurbinCompound  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The box could hold a lot of weight. I’d put 1000 pounds on it. It would be fine. The wheels don’t really have a lot of ground contact when it’s sitting up. So it’s not a factor. Yes the cords are not an issue. I’ve never had an issue with thresholds or stuff on the floor
