- Over the 2017 and 2018 model years, the Ford F-150’s engine line up has been completely overhauled, with all four available powertrains getting more power and a new 10-speed transmission. Now we’ve tried all ten of those gears with the big 3.5L EcoBoost, but now let’s see what they are like with a smaller engine.

I saw 30 mpg with my '16 F-150 2.7 EB (cruise controlled 66 mph on level ground).
I drove the '18 coyote and 3.5 Eco last weekend. On those two paticular vehicles, the 5.0 had lag, the 3.5 was spot on.
Umm N/A engines don't have lag like ever, u probably just felt it shift into gear
by lag, I'm sure they meant that the engine had to rev higher to feel the same power as the 3.5. Its not turbo lag, but delay to peak power.

What about the 3.5L Ecoboost V6?
I drove and eco boost for a week and average of 26 mpg i also pulled an 89 26 foot camper trailer and didn't feel the trailer and it stayed in 5 gear most of the trip.
Nice looking truck and I'm excited about the new 5.0 :)
P.S. ecoboost good too but I like the large aftermarket for the 5.0 and I think it is one of the best sounding v8s out there

the 2.7 is the most purchased engine ford has but i took the 3.5 because it only comes in the limited model ...ill trade in my 16 limited for a 18 model next fall.
F-150 KING OF TRUCKS ...both the new 2.7 V6 & gen2 - 3.5 V6 are phenomenal engines! Can't go wrong with either just depends ur needs. Be sure run a full synthetic motor oil to keep the twin turbo cool & happy. Any newer F150 will last 20yrs easy!

Ford need to soften up the rear springs so the truck will ride better. I know this because I own a 2016 F165.
B-roll clips don't match up with the trim levels being discussed. As convoluted as the F150's various grilles and options can get to the uninitiated, this part of the video likely just adds to the confusion.

This was at an event controlled by Ford, so we had a very limited time with the truck.
We will definitely be getting the 2018 F-150 back again for a future off-road test.
My F150 is comfortable for daily driving and my Tacoma is good for going off road. Two best trucks in the world IMO.

irafael8080 ..its nearly undetectable in the F150. Plus u can turn it off with switch on dash anytime u want. The Ecoboost motors run quiet an smooth. Love em. My fiance cab have the German car cause my F150 rides better and quieter. More dependable too. Funny, she prefers traveling in the F150 Lariat crew cab FX4 over her car! hmmmm.
My Mercedes GLS 450 has that option called the "eco" mode and i turn it off. With Mercedes making more and more power ( mine 362 hp and 369 ft/lbs ) they sounds mean af when they start IMO. They growl really loud and I think Mercedes is trying to make there cars louder on the outside as in growl and stuff.
I'm going to stay with the v8,I live in a small town and I don't need the cops chasing me. If what you say is true about the Ecoboost engine

Johnny Blaze ZX14R ..ur current truck must need it or they wouldn't offer or its sales ploy. F150 engines are legendary ..many many have gone dwn in truck history books as best of best. They building Gen2 Ecoboost motors already..started bk in 2011 w/1st yr of 3.5L Gen1 Ecoboost and was a durable beast then! The newer Gen2 3.5L & 2.7L V6 Ecoboost motors are refined highly durable beasts! Millions on rd currently. Consumer Reports #1 rated truck is F150.

Period. U get 5 excellent & highly acclaimed engine choices. Test drive and u will see why ppl pick Ford trucks. Besides if u feel better u can get up to 120k or 150k extended powertrain warranties for not mush add'l in my experiences. Don't waste ur $ . Change oil with quality full synthetic oil every 5-6k mis and last ya 20yrs easy. F150s don't rust..only truck that has had military grade alum alloy bodies since 2015. 🇺🇸
Tommy Tsunami ..what truck u own? if new titan the longer warranty is for buyer confidence in a lower volume all new design. haven't heard much bout new titan ..sounded pretty good from start but don't think sales are meeting goals . I stick with Ford trucks..F150 or F250. Can't go wrong. Never let me dwn and I've bought many.. always new. I run em hard and maintain them well. My friends/coworkers says same thing! all alum alloy bodies now are icing on cake! Never rust or oxidation. 🇺🇸

That 3.3 will be a great competitor in the Ranger. Less power than the Colorado, but more than the Tacoma, and probably the best mileage of the bunch.

Ford always owned the small truck class and literally gave it up to put max effort / R&D spending into the #1 selling & most advanced trucks on the planet..F-Series! They will regain the small truck 👑 crown for sure. GM is doing great w/their new Colorado & Canyon small trucks giving Yoda fits w/ its outdated ugly Tacoma built in MEXICO folks! I'm a Ford guy all the way but give GM props for reviving small truck class with their 2 awesome smaller trucks. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

They need to put the 2.7 in the ranger blow the doors off any competition in this segment.

I want to test drive a RCSB 2wd 3.3 F150. That engine sounds nice and 0-60 in around 7.5 seconds is not bad at all. (the fact that trucks now are so nice and quick and efficient makes old trucks and sporty cars looks less practical). The current F150 interior is pleasing even in basic XL form- though who keeps ordering these without even cruise control? Cruise control helps mpg on highway,m and you can't add cruise to 15+ F150s after the fact. googles.. Great googly moogly. Ford wants $1250 just for cruise. It's just some steering wheel buttons and programming. f**k.

Sukhraj Dhillon ..the Ecoboost twin turbo V6 motors are heavy duty built and run real strong. Will out run any small displacement V8 out there. Use a full synthetic motor oil and u will get 250k+ mis easy! Ecoboost been around since 2011. They on Gen2 designs. Worry not its an F150!🇺🇸

E. Simons ..yes they do. I use 89 midgrade in my Ecoboost an premium will get u max HP but they run just fine on any tier1 rated regular fuel.

I have the 3.5 eco in my 2016. Its one hell of a motor. I was skeptical at first. But it out performs the 5.0 in everything.

Be sure to run a "full synthetic" motor oil always.. such as Mobil1 EP or Pennzoil Platinum etc (along w/Motorcraft oil & air filters) to combat excess heat an increase performance & longevity of the twin turbo beast!

Dartmoor Dave .. all Ford's *5* engine options come from Ford engine plants! designed/engineered/assembled by Ford including the new Powerstroke diesels! this is for max quality control and it shows. All engines class leading and most tech.
I wasn't concerned about the US Fords, I was just commenting that as the engines are Peugeot 4's and 6's in the Landrover range I was curious to see if they were to buy Ford diesels. Some of those in Europe are actually Peugeot lumps.

Range rovers have the worst reliability now Ford is going to use one of their engines in the flagship brand. I am not a Psychic but I can see what is coming. Why did they not converse with IHC they have used their engines since the the early 90s 6.9 7.3 6.0 6.7 really these diesels have made the brand what it is today yeah 6.0 had crappy injectors and the 3 valve gassers had crappy plugs but still have a loyal following. I have a 2007 5.4 with 250k plugs every 40 k no problems cam phazers quiet 5k oil changes with pennsoil platinum 5w30 not 5w20 since 100k runs like new. Waiting untill 2021 to get a 2018 lease return for half price like i did with my 2007. And yea a 5.0 not an ecoscrap v sixes have no business under the hood of a truck.

9:15 Brand new truck and it looks like the gas door spring closure mechanism is already broke. All these years and Ford still hasn't fixed that issue. Don't trouble yourself Ford, I'll fix it on this one too.

Its all about quality control & precision manufacturing! Ford is lite yrs ahead of all others in design & technology that's no secret. U will be very happy w/ur new F150 as I think u alluded to getting new one.. as I am also! '18 F150 Lariat Crew Cab FX4 w/ 3.0 Powerstroke diesel / 10spd tranny plus heavy duty tow package.
All things considered, I prefer Ford over other manufacturers. It's kinda like choosing a political affiliation...which one can I tolerate and is going to drain my pocket the least! Compete in years to come? More like get as much money as you can now before Chevy and Ram drop their new platforms. Seriously starting at $27k. That is just too much for a basic work truck. The MPG numbers are not great with all that aluminum and car engines. The looks also falloff a bit more from last year.
Although I do gripe that the base models are about 50% higher than they should be. The higher trim models are priced well. You would have to wonder why someone would opt for the Ford F150 XLT over the higher trim models when it is priced that high.
It is a little sad that Ford has not been able to match the MPG numbers of Ram yet despite Ram selling a 6k lbs 12 year old platform that they strapped a diesel to.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news,... but i do not want a truck that automatically stops for people and i will tell you why, because the criminals once they learn of this they will stop you steal your truck and do whatever they want with you.

I dont like ford at all they have burnt me on 8 trucks and I will never own another but the 2.7L engine is impressive only thing is the 10 speed. Too many gears, I had a ram with a 10 speed it was changing too much but it does help with fuel mileage.

First, the 2.7 ecoboost is a 4 cyl., not a 6 cyl. Second, unless your towing/ hauling everyday, the 5.0 is antiquated and a waste of money. Its still in the lineup for old timers who can't wrap their head around modern turbos. Yes, the turbos of the 80's and early 90's were garbage, but that was loooong ago. And lets be real, if you're towing and hauling on a regular basis, you should be looking at an F250/350 anyway. I went from a 2014 5.0 f150, and now have the 2017 2.7 liter. Its fast. It does just fine towing a boat. it gets great mpg for day to day driving. There's really no turbo lag. it took a lot for me to see a 4cyl as the way to go in a fullsize truck, but its the real deal. It turned the f150 into something very fun to drive. Don't believe me, go test drive one.

No need be defensive.. only a *fool* would think Ford Motor would bet the whole future of F-series on an incredible tech rich engine lineup if it wasn't "top notch" w/ monster power & durability! The Ecoboost V6 now represents over 60% of all new F150s sold. Amazing. The 3.5L & 2.7L.. are both V6s. The 2.7L is NOT a 4cyl as someone wrongly stated in these comments.

Ur def a true Ford truck guy like myself w/ur passion for these machines but to set record straight...the 5.0 V8 option .. same Coyote V8 now available in Mustang is far from antiquated as it was totally new design for 2011 MY. I think u were meaning to say.. its not the "wise modern choice" to get a V8 when these Ecoboost V6s are so powerful & rugged for their size. Just be sure to use top brand "full synthetic" motor oil in ur truck to protect the twin turbos and reduce heat & friction. Use the OEM Motorcraft oil filters & air filters for best protection! Most ppl I know are changing the oil at 5-6000k mis max! Forget the recommended 10k mis or 1yr.

A 2018 F150 Lariat crew cab Fx4 hopefully soon my daily driver & travel vehicle. plan put 300k+ mis on it ...easy. Pennzoil full synthetic oil and Motorcraft filters always. Changed 5kmis religiously..my other Ford trucks loved that schedule & never failed me ...ever.
