Wonderful tutorial!! Your voice was very nice to listen to, and your tutorial was fun to watch!! The end where you slipped the bag over the edge of the ironing board was smart. I’ve never thought of that. Keep up the great work!! ❤
Abi Den you are an absolute STAR!!! I can’t thank you enough for all your demonstrations. I’ve only been overlocking for a few weeks and you have given me so much more confidence! 👍🥰
Thank you for your videos on the Lidl/Singer overlocker. I was lucky enough to receive one as a gift on Saturday, but having never used an overlocker before I was nervous and quite daunted. Your videos have been really helpful in getting me going with it, and I hope you do more.
What a great video! Thank you, Abi. One little reminder for those following along with Abi, those handles can be anchored to the bag to keep them out of the way, while they are inside, with safety pins to avoid the "OUCH!".
Abi, you are a sewing Goddess, I brought an Overlocker for the first time on Monday, and having watched a few of your video's I am now inspired and feel confident enough to take on a few of your simple projects. Many thanks, Jane x
Thank you for your videos Abi. I have a new overlocker too and watching these videos gives me confidence. Your voide is very calming and friendly. Thanks and greetings from Finland.
This turning method, both for the strap and the liner have made me more confident in trying to do a lined bag! Thanks for this! The inside out and turning thing somehow bamboozled me every time, but for some reason it makes sense watching you do it. Gonna make something today! Yay!
That was a very good tutorial video. Thank you for making it. I would like to suggest that you add a little more of an ending to your video so that we can see the finished work of your projects without the next video links in the way.
This is so lovely I just got a serger thank you for showing me how to do some thing to practice with all the best Donna from Canada looking forward to more
Hi Abi love your tutorials you may remember I purchased a singer overlocker at Lidl 2 weeks ago ,I love it but I’m not very good with tension I find it very confusing both on the overlocker and normal sewing machine , is it possible you could do a tutorial one day you explain things so well.
Hi, I bought a Lidl overlocker about five years ago! It is an older model than yours, the 14SH754. I was scared of it!! It was three years before I found a Craftsy course and then I was overlocking all the time though it was difficult to thread up. The only problem I had with this machine was that the power cord just wouldn't stay in and kept falling out. I got fed up and bought another machine which is lovely. No cord falling out and much easier to thread the lower looper. However, I have kept my Singer as it has that very handy sleeve arm which my new machine hasn't. I will just have to figure a way to keep that naughty power cord in the machine. Thanks so much for this tutorial.
Singer are an excellent company and I suggest it’s a good idea to contact them and ask them for their support. I’m sure they’ll be able to help you, considering under the European consumer act, electrical items need to be of good service for 6 years, but I can’t tell you the act’s year
This is a project that can be done with both sewing machine and overlocker. But I wonder if the overlock stitches are strong enough for a tote bag. I have had a situation where an overlocker stitch wasn’t strong enough by itself (in a garment project). I think a sewing machine is more convenient for this project becouse of using less thread and also the stitches being stronger (but I may be wrong about the last one) Other then that, that is a beautiful thing you made!
Hey Lucie, an overlocker stitch is just as good, if you have the settings right and you use a sewing thread rather than a lesser quality overlocker thread. I tend to use Coats Moon threads in my overlocker and they work well. Have fun!
You can disengage the knife action. Overlocking is the actual stitch, serging is the cutting part. I may have deactivated the knife so not to cut the material. When you have a seam allowance already cut, or it’s very narrow, you might not want to cut any fabric when overlocking the edge. If you have the same machine, check on the left side of the machine to see if your knife is switched on or off. I hope that helps. Thank you for the question, feels like it’s another TH-cam tutorial to be made x
Bald and Brown ooh madam, get it started, you’ll be great. X I’m here to hold your hand through it, so just ask x and yes, tutorial is on its way just for you!
Unfortunately I can't hear what you are saying. I have the volume on my laptop to the max. I can hear the sewing machine very well but I can't make out what you are saying.
This bag can be made on a regular sewing machine and use far less thread, I am puzzled why you used an overlocker at all? If there were any raw edges then fair enough, overlocker needed - but there aren't any? Genuinely puzzled.
Using an overlocker gives projects longevity. Yes, more thread but it costs pennies more but you get a product which will be a lot more robust. Consider the time to choose a fabric, something you want to make, the success, and after all the effort, wouldn’t it be nice if you could keep it forever ? I would

Dorothea Wiltshire you’re welcome Dorothea 💕🌷
Lovely! Great for beginners.
Thank you Abi looks a great project going to give this one a try so quick too.
Best wishes Penny
Thanks Penny, overlockers are so underused and people are so scared of them, I hope we can change that notion, enjoy x
If you took the bottom corners and served a corner off it would make a flat bottom. Thanks for a lovely easy bag.
Great tip 🌷
Great Tipp, Thank you so much 🌸you just take the overlock chain to turn it inside out 🙂
That tail on the strap, genius 🤯

@@AbisDen Thanks Abi. I'll do that as I don't know if it is the lead or the machine's connection. I've using a little piece of paper to jam it in!
☺️ Nice work
Love you videos ❤️
Question on the liner,do you put it pretty side down?
pretty sides together, so when you flip it out, the pretty sides are out x
It's ages since I've sewn, I've got to slightly narrow give pair of wide leg trousers, can I just use the overlooked for this?
I would personally :-)
How do you sew a 5/8 or 1/4 seam allowance on a serger?

Just regular woven cotton 😊 thank you for your kind words
Amazing tutorials! Where do you get the lining from please? X
I purchased the lining from Ikea, I think it’s called Bommal
@@AbisDen super, thank you! X
You’re welcome
Thank you for the tutorial Abi, I'm a newbie sewer and this is a perfectly explained project :)
Brilliant x
I wanted one of this tipe of weaving sewing machine, how much does it cost,.?
Novice here! 😊 I always thought overlockers cut material as they went. Can you explain why that isn't happening?

Hey Naveeda. Have a look on the Lidl website 😊

Why do have to 'chain off....?
chaining off leaves a length of thread in the machine that will attach easily to the next batch of fabric to sew.
This bag can be made on a regular sewing machine and use far less thread, I am puzzled why you used an overlocker at all? If there were any raw edges then fair enough, overlocker needed - but there aren't any? Genuinely puzzled.
