This is literally one of my absolutely favorite albums ever. My background as a musician (guitarist) is NYHardcore/ Crossover. I'd always listen to these guys while driving out from Brooklyn to the Catskills to go snowboarding in the early-mid 90's.
When I first listened to the album 'Up In It' I knew I found something special. Between the Whigs, Dinosaur Jr and The Wedding Present the music of this era was soulful like the music of the 60's and 70's.
For as depressing as it can be, my home state of Ohio blessed us with Greg Dulli, Bob Pollard, Kim Deal, and Lou Barlow. And for that, I am thankful on this Thanksgiving.
gouts eclectiques obligent,je viens de passer 2 plombes à écouter du Pat Metheny et je passe à l'instant à Afghan Whigs ! Neuronnes remises en place!!!
Ladies and Gentleman: (especially those of you who were just born when this aired) This is a real band! No auto tune or trickery...raw power and talent! I hope your generation is saved very soon from what you are being fed.
my god...one song in thousands compels me to comment. nothing makes me want to cry and hulk-out simultaneously like this shit right here. i never feel more alive listening to music than i do listening to The Afghan Whigs.
Hello I am a feotus and don´t have an age yet. I can´t talk for too long as the Amniotic fluid gets into my nostrils....but hey the alternative rock scene youvé gotta love it. That placental vibration with the bass gets me every time.
this superb video just changed my life. can you imagine if they were on conan today? would never happen. people don't know what good music is, when all they do is listen to mainstream radio. you have to delve into the history of the shit. this music right here is far better than anything being put out today. the intro alone kicks the ass of every fucking "rock" (or other) band/ musician out today.
first Whigs experience was the rare video for "Sister Brother" on a Sub Pop video sampler over 20 years ago. After having seen them live 3 times during the 90's, I still can't get enough of their live sound. The female vocalist they brought on tour to sing My Curse (not the Scrawl singer) was so incredible that it's burned in my mind forever.
oh also, at about 4:02, that smile is pure gold. as if to say "we just rolled in here and showed 'em all how it's done." i imagine, it that way at least...
I was born in 1933 at which point the stars aligned with Jupiter, where I was transported. I was taught of quality music such as this and sent on a spectacular mission back to Earth where I didn't age one bit. Once on Earth I viewed this performance and now I'm 15 and appreciate good music.
Haha. I know this comment is very late but I had to reply. I used to live near Chicago (I live in Hawaii now) I remember the days of "3 bands, 3 bucks" at the Cabaret Metro. My friend from high school also saw Smashing Pumpkins when they opened for That Petrol Emotion at the Metro. A lot of good bands and memories during that time.
I am 6 months old and I really appreciate the alternative music scene. There is nothing more enjoyable than hearing live music. The noise makes my undeveloped brain bleed but someone once said you have to suffer for your art, so true.
Great Video.... Anybody have the Conan performance promoting 1965.... they played 66 but with the different bridge at the end... was the same night as Trimph the insult comic dog was at the dog show..... probably the best night of television entertainment ever
hey man i was born in 85 and i remember this.....from conan... laugh!...but no really they were always here in colmo because of the UM campus i guess....at the bluenote..anyways being so young this was the first post grunge era band i really liked.....im just so glad someone had recorded and then uploaded this ........
and it don't sleep, and it don't breathe, it's locked it's jaws and now it's swallowing, it's in our heart, it's in our head, it's in our love, baby, it's our bed....
+BirdofSaxony You sir are fu*&^ in sane. These guys were signed by Sub Pop like a prop for the the grunge bands in Seattle.. The suits at the label laughed at the idea of a band from Ohio to rock. Well they played several festivals in Holland & sold more records in the US….They were not Sound Garden or Screaming Trees but they established a fan base.. I had a friend who owned a Indie Record Store back in the early 90's, & can attest these guys played their hearts out.
@MacHazzer Actually 90% thanks to Greg Dulli, since by Earle's own admission, Dulli either showed him the drum parts himself or told him exactly what to play. But i'm not putting down his talent, the dude can play.
Dozens of the best alternative rock bands (The National, Heartless Bastards, Afghan Whigs, etc.) came out of cincinnati. It's a great town for alternative rock, film and theater. I guess if those things dont interest you, you might not have a good time.
Great lyricist. Anyone know where they are now? Very very under rated band. I think they got lost in the shuffle with some of the other amazing talent emerging in the mid 90's. Way better than the bullshit coming out now. These guys had a SOUND!
I said it before and I'll say it again. The 90's man!!! Afghan Whigs /Hum/The Fugees/TLC/Pavement/Radiohead, all the diff music we had! A Tribe Called Quest/GraveDiggaz/I could go on all day. The diversity!!! What happened!!??? God bless everyone growing up now, there's good music out, but not on the radio/tv and for that , I'm sorry for all of you. ((least you got TH-cam to see what ya missed)))
Thank god I was born in 1972 so I had the chance to live my life with bands like this.
AMAZING LIVE!!!
72!
Me too!
They're the lucky ones!
as long as you were born after this record came out you can still listen to them and have their music in their life
I wish I could discover Gentlemen and hear it for the first time again.
dont we all
Amen!
I did last year ;-)
The Afghan Whigs were a great underrated American band. They were genuine and they deserve to be restored to favor!
The Whigs were and still are very underrated band. Dulli ROCKS! Still one of my favorite bands.
These guys are truly in a class of their own, their unique sound is untouchable and timeless. thanks for posting.
Absolutely. Debonair rigueur.
This is literally one of my absolutely favorite albums ever. My background as a musician (guitarist) is NYHardcore/ Crossover. I'd always listen to these guys while driving out from Brooklyn to the Catskills to go snowboarding in the early-mid 90's.
Amazing music! Transports me back to the 90's when my brother and I were kids living simpler times! Praise GOD for beautiful music!
this guy might have one of the most badass voices ever. this band is awsome.
When I first listened to the album 'Up In It' I knew I found something special. Between the Whigs, Dinosaur Jr and The Wedding Present the music of this era was soulful like the music of the 60's and 70's.
Amazing performance, all 4 of them locked totally on this song's groove & flow, Dulli singing straight from the gut.
For as depressing as it can be, my home state of Ohio blessed us with Greg Dulli, Bob Pollard, Kim Deal, and Lou Barlow. And for that, I am thankful on this Thanksgiving.
Que banda, por dios. Sublime
gouts eclectiques obligent,je viens de passer 2 plombes à écouter du Pat Metheny et je passe à l'instant à Afghan Whigs ! Neuronnes remises en place!!!
Great band great album great lyrics!

Todd Binkley 9 years later & it’s just gotten worse...😔
Hell fuckin' yeah. I will never stop digging Greg Dulli and everything he does, down to the bone. No matter how old I am.
my god...one song in thousands compels me to comment. nothing makes me want to cry and hulk-out simultaneously like this shit right here. i never feel more alive listening to music than i do listening to The Afghan Whigs.
definitely one of the best bands ever
Hello I am a feotus and don´t have an age yet. I can´t talk for too long as the Amniotic fluid gets into my nostrils....but hey the alternative rock scene youvé gotta love it. That placental vibration with the bass gets me every time.
Hey man just letting you know this is really funny
love everything then and now greg dulli is doing! as underrated as mike patton
one of the best bands of all times
This is amazingly great, as is the entire album
this superb video just changed my life. can you imagine if they were on conan today? would never happen. people don't know what good music is, when all they do is listen to mainstream radio. you have to delve into the history of the shit. this music right here is far better than anything being put out today. the intro alone kicks the ass of every fucking "rock" (or other) band/ musician out today.
This band has been kicking ass for a long time now.
Amazing band...Dulli is unbelievable.
Gentlemen was always my favorite album but damn everything they did was so great. So criminally underrated watching this in 2024 woohoo!
Same brother! Extremely underrated. Just watched them live again for the first time in thirty years

This performance was like a bottom of the 9th, down by 3 runs, bases loaded grand slam that leaves the park.
Found them in ‘92 and still here for it. All of it.
Marry me
Hard to find a better pairing than a Tele and a Jazzmaster.
this band kicked so much ass
Still do, the new record is great.
Ufffff ¡que buenos eran! Como aullan esas guitarras... y cuanto dolor en esa voz. ¡Grandes!
A l'époque, je ne pouvais m'endormir qu'avec ça entre les oreilles!
This album has also changed my life!
FUCKING Dully is a true frontman. And this is real rock-n-roll. Not much like it now around.
I remember when this first aired - I couldn't get my VCR to tape it, and I was so mad. Thanks for posting it!
I was 21 in 93... what a ride it’s been.. 🎉 💊 🍸
i remember watching this and falling hard for M.r Dulli
I am right there with you listening and loving this my friends. We're all alive. This about anything but truth.
I was born in 1933 at which point the stars aligned with Jupiter, where I was transported. I was taught of quality music such as this and sent on a spectacular mission back to Earth where I didn't age one bit. Once on Earth I viewed this performance and now I'm 15 and appreciate good music.
one of the finest bands on this or any other, planet.
Peak Dulli
Best drummer Dulli's ever had. And he's wearing a suit!! Respect
I'm glad I had the chance to see them perform at the Metro in Chicago. Zeus bless'em!
Haha. I know this comment is very late but I had to reply. I used to live near Chicago (I live in Hawaii now)

They should've stayed in a grunge phase like this.
Great Video.... Anybody have the Conan performance promoting 1965.... they played 66 but with the different bridge at the end... was the same night as Trimph the insult comic dog was at the dog show..... probably the best night of television entertainment ever
great tone
now that's what i call a fookin' rock band
This is the kind of songs that helps me run faster when jogging :-)
I've got chills.
Great band !
This was on November 18, 1993
hey man i was born in 85 and i remember this.....from conan... laugh!...but no really they were always here in colmo because of the UM campus i guess....at the bluenote..anyways being so young this was the first post grunge era band i really liked.....im just so glad someone had recorded and then uploaded this ........
Gentlemen...best album ever

Well........it just might be a contender...... amazing album indeed......
and it don't sleep, and it don't breathe, it's locked it's jaws and now it's swallowing, it's in our heart, it's in our head, it's in our love, baby, it's our bed....

What a voice.
Saw these guys live in Philadelphia back in September, they were unbelievable!
Love you guys madly❤
a well kept treasure
Couple thousand of those views are mine .
Leah Goin i think I'm catching you up!
Heard ya Sis!

Foxy Shazam, Ass Ponys, Buffalo Killers, the Bears, Moth, and legends The Isley Brothers too...(we won't hold The Black Veil Brides against them lol)
Being from next door in Pennsylvania I've always been jealous of how many great musical acts come out of Ohio in general.
amazing.
Great song!
love this!
Outstanding
this is great
I've always wondered what's written on Greg's amp in this video.
@louistorres Gentleman and Black Love are in the top ten, possibly top five records of all time for me.
They were great live at the 9:30 club!
What a lead man. Pure charisma. Pure sex.
Ironic.
nicely done fellas
Diraju dušu. Kad će koncert u Hrvatskoj!
za mjesec dana :D
Classic whigs in fine form..
Tune.
Great lyricist. Anyone know where they are now? Very very under rated band. I think they got lost in the shuffle with some of the other amazing talent emerging in the mid 90's. Way better than the bullshit coming out now. These guys had a SOUND!
Amazing....
conan looks about 12. great song.

it'd be nice to see them add some dates to the upcoming 2 stop tour since i can't get to london or nj.
i like
komatara bravo
peak whigs right there
i think coney would have them on again-if they'd put out a new album or remastered an old one
I said it before and I'll say it again. The 90's man!!! Afghan Whigs /Hum/The Fugees/TLC/Pavement/Radiohead, all the diff music we had! A Tribe Called Quest/GraveDiggaz/I could go on all day. Does anybody have a video of the song NOW YOU KNOW from the album Gentleman?
Yes, someone, official video please.
Qu'est-ce qui percute aussi bien aujourd'hui?
