    can't stress enough how important it is to map out the essential loops before you start. Retopo is so painful if you don't plan ahead. Especially if you have 50 edges going down to your arms and feet. It might not look that bad at the torso, but when you get down to the hands and feet, you will pull your hair out.

    Wow all your videos are amazing. You teach everything the right way. I watched all the sculpting videos of this series and tried to follow along but after some remeshing, it began to lag. It would be really great if you can make a series about poly modelling a character from scratch. I've watched the anime modelling series but I couldn't make detailed faces with it.

    oh, using the snapping with a shrink wrap modifier is something so simple but so incredibly useful for more then just retopologizing, it will definitely speed up my creation of clothing for instance!

    I think I have made a mistake going into character design for the coursework, it just takes way way too much time :) and everything that is required to know. From references to basic model to lights textures, retopology, rigging, animating dear lord.

    Oh I knew there was something for that! Was actively searching for a way to get some kind of 'offset' on the snapping tool for weeks now. It can become real tedious real fast to retopologise almost blindly at some point. Just try to do that on a big model with some details, only with x-ray mode to try and see what you're actually doing. Gave me some of the baddest headaches I had in years.
    Thanks! If by any chance you happen to have some tricks for weight painting too. At least with topology you can hide parts of the model you're not working on, weight paint mode does not allow such a thing it seems. Or I also failed to find this feature I guess.

    Absolutely love what you do. I was wondering if you could make a video on texturepainting some sort of stylised greenery🌲. Like bushes trees and such its the same style as the hammer you painted a long while back. Anyway keep up the good work man you have no idea the amount of things I learned from watching you.

    This is so helpful because im struggling understanding edgeflow and where to merge edge flows an create poles, then i dont know if the random flows poles create should be done better lmao, I'm doing the CG Boost sculpt course from your recommendation an im struggling with retopology and ive been binging your series about the dragon head last night actually then you post this. Crazy how things work.

    Retropology is part that scaring the beginners away, about digital sculpture. It is a technical and time-consuming activity. You must do loops in the model, and be careful with e-poles, n-gons in areas of movement, be careful that the mesh flow does not affect, texturing and animation model later.

    Would we need an addon to reproject a finished edge flow(like from sketchfab) and shrinkwrap it your high poly object? i suppose we need an addon to be able to do "source/target" points to better fit to the eyes,nose, mouth etc?

    Having a really tough time with the retopology section. Not sure what the deal is, but when I'm trying to extrude or move an edge or vertex it just jumps to seemingly random positions and I can't put it where it needs to go. If I ctrl + right click each section is a completely different size, with some sections being 3x wider than the rest. I know it's probably related to shrink wrap, but I don't know what the heck I can do about it.

    • @grabbitt
      @grabbitt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you must have face snapping on otherwise its very difficult to control with only shrink wrap

    What about "proper" topology for animated long faced characters? Like animalistic fantasy races, furry characters, and stuff like that. There is an ocean of good facial topology guides for human faces, but long faced ones are not that common and there is so much confusion when trying to apply human face topo to them.

    • @grabbitt
      @grabbitt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just adapt the guides giving more loops to the extra areas

    • @DarkDao
      @DarkDao 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@grabbitt It's relatively easy to adapt it to something dog or cat-like, where forehead and eyes are on one "curve" and only mouth and nose are on different sosig, but something with long face and eyes on the sides, not just snout, that's when it gets confusing for me. Should the eye-nose-mouth "mask" be elongated, or it's unnecessary and can be in separate loops? Closest thing i can think of is shark-like sci-fi Sergal race. Something like their heads.
