  • This video shows how I fixed the broken hinge on my PS Gold Wireless headset. Tools required are a drill with 1/16" bit, and suitable wire cutters. Please feel free to ask any questions, comment or like.

    Just tried this out and man it worked! Even seems more secure than the manufacturer’s design. Wish I would’ve found this video when my first set of Golds broke.

    Great idea, mine broke months ago but I couldn't throw them out as they worked still. I did glue them but they broke as soon as I tried to put them on. Just repaired them using your method and neatly taped them.
    Thanks for this, it's a great fix and it feels quite secure. Fully charged and back in use.
    Thanks again!

    Glad I found this video. I almost pulled my Golds apart out of frustration. The first set I bought had to be returned, because the hinge was broken before I removed them from the box. Now, here I am about 7 months later with the same issue with the replacements.... and I have no idea where my receipt is.

      Yes! Yes! Yes! I just did this quick fix and it works fine. I broke all my small drill bits years ago, but thankfully my wife found an old one in some used tools she bought. Thank you for the video.

    definitely worked very well.. had to move the 1/16 bit around inside while drilling to make the hole slightly bigger

  • @daauron
    @daauron 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the idea! It works great again. Took very little time to do it. Although I may have a new tiny crack formed from lining up and slightly bending the nails (which I used and clipped shorter, instead of using the original rod) into the slots - anyone else going for this method should be cautious about that. But the hinge works exactly as before. Also as someone else mentioned, be cautious about your audio wire in the center and your drill speed when pressing into it so you don't accidentally drill the audio cable.

    It worked pretty well on my headset, you no longer have the click when folding so it is now an uninterrupted move, but in my opinion that doesn't affect anything.
    I followed your recomendation and drilled a bit further from the edge and it solved the problem.
    Thank you very much, you helped me save my headset.

    fuck yah, I just came home from buying the platinum's but I decided to try to fix my golds anyways for my son. and I looked online and your video came up. fuck yah 5 stars. I was a little nervous thinking because it was plastic and I might break it. but ever thing worked out, its a little too snug but its ok. but for sure I could already tell that am gonna have to do the left side soon. but overall you are a life saver.
    PSI had purchased my gold headset March 12, 2016 so a year, 10 months and 10 days lol They broke yesterday. am gonna update when the left side breaks. but am sure the headset will last another year or even more, even after the left side breaks and I have to fix it.

    Awesome idea if you have the tools! Mine broke also, and I used crazy glue to get it to stick together. The left side broke 6 months ago and now the right side broke as well, so now I'm all crazy glued up! lol Unfortunately with crazy blue the headset doesn't fold or pivot anymore. Whoever manufactures this headset should be ashamed. This is truly an example of very bad build quality. and I think I paid 200 dollars for mine last year at Gamestop. Unacceptable.

    This is an awesome idea, seeing that my son's headset has this same common issue and this looks like a good fix - I'll probably look for a longer replacement pin rather than cutting the existing one in half. How can there be a thumbs down already? I'm really curious to know what the thumbs down was for?

      Im glad I could help. Ive been using the repaired headset daily for the last 2 weeks without any issues. I suspect the hinge on the other earpiece will fail before the repaired one. If it does, I will update the video with a little more detail. Regarding the thumbs down...I wouldnt pay much attention to it, I know I dont.

    Goddamn can’t believe I didn’t think of this, to add to it, if you don’t mind it not moving, you could use liquid nails or silicon in where the exposed hinge is, giving it a bit more strength

    I'm with the same problem. and was thinking of gluing and taping it the best way I can, but your solution seems way better. The only problem is that i'm not used to use tools, and I'm afraid of the drilling part. Was it easy to drill exactly where you were supposed to?
    And thanks for our video and tips. :)

    • @jcrides5493
      @jcrides5493  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the drilling really isnt very difficult. You should be able to eyeball where you want the hole, but if you want you can measure the distance. just be sure to use a 1/16th drill bit so the pin fits snug and wont fall out.

  • @NickEnchev
    @NickEnchev 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Was going to ask if you find the two pin halves moving which could throw off the fix, but I guess your drill bit made the outer holes tight enough for the pin halves to stay put?
