The Biggest Mystery of the 2020 MLB Season...

  • The 2020 MLB season was one of the strangest years of baseball in league history with many rule changes like the ghost runner on second base in extras and 7 inning games for doubleheaders. But what changed the game the most was the season's schedule being reduced from 162 to 60. With only this amount of games we saw star players struggle such as Jose Altuve and lesser known guys shine like Luke Voit. In 2020, Voit led the league in home runs and was one of the most feared hitters in the entire league. But in the years following he wasn't able to build upon this strong campaign and currently finds himself jobless now 3 weeks into the 2024 season.

So Luke Voit is basically the MLB equivalent of TJ Warren in the NBA. Played like the GOATs in their COVID season and have done nothing since then.

I think the Luke Voit mystery was solved at the end of this video. The guy was an absolute liability in the field to the point where he could only be a DH. If a player is gonna be a career DH, he has to be a consistent slugger, such as David Ortiz or Nelson Cruz. Voit and Keston Hiura are players who can carry an offense when hot but are extremely streaky with alarming strikeout rates and cannot play any position in the field.
