    LG should pay you for making this demo. Thank you so much for doing this. I purchased my washer/dryer set just before the pandemic lockdown in March and I probably didn't use this new set for about a month because I was so intimidated by it and the fact that we laundered everything before we got rid of the old set. This is definitely a deep learning curve. I will have to watch your demo a few more times to be pretty confident I'm making the best use of my washer. Thank you

      I just bought an LG front loader. Do you think I made a mistake for not getting a top loader??

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say, but I think you’ll be ok. I have no allegiance to the LG brand and chose it because 1) we have an LG dryer we like and 2) my best friend has a front load LG washer and dryer and raves about it. I chose a top loader because we had an old front loader at some point (Maytag Neptune) and it developed mold and odor we couldn’t get rid of… we inherited it so I would have taken better care of it had I owned it from day 1.

      Would low water pressure make a difference on how my new machine would work. My washer still gives me an LE and stops. Sorry but I would never recommend LG.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Low water pressure could be an issue, but not likely. Have you tried running the test cycle to see if the machine diagnoses any issues? To run a test cycle press the POWER button, and then IMMEDIATELY (as soon as the chime starts) press and hold the SPIN and SOIL buttons gently until “in” and then “5” appears in the display. Then press PLAY/PAUSE (⏯). The test runs for roughly 3 minutes and checks the water inlet hoses and drain hose. If at the end of the test you get error code 1E, check to make sure the hot and cold water faucets are fully turned on and there are no kinks in the hoses. If everything is OK, you will see “END” or “0” in the display.

    I just purchased this machine, but they sent me one with an agitator. By the time I realized they goofed up I was so frustrated, I told the delivery guys to just leave it. The panel is the same, so I'm good. Like you mentioned, the "manual" is not very thorough. I really appreciate your video. It was excellent. Now, I can wash my second load of clothes knowing what I'm doing. Thank you so much for your time and smarts doing this for the rest of us.

    I've had this machine for four months now. I was delighted that it actually does clean noticeably better than my beloved 13 year-old Kenmore Elite. Though, I think this LG is quite a bit noisier than my old machine. (The drain pump noises are LOUD.) Everything he says in this video is right on. It is an excellent machine in my opinion. I just hope it holds up for a decade or more like my old one.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing your experiences. I agree the machine is noisy, so I'm glad it's not in our living space. I ran a downloaded cycle (Large Load) with high spin last night, and my other half said she thought the noise was the snow plows outside. We also occasionally experience pump noise during extraction, clanging as the tub reaches top spin speeds, and an occasional squeak. Overall, we feel it gets the clothes clean despite being stingy with water. Unfortunately, it's impossible to review longevity, so fingers crossed this machine lasts. Thanks again!

    We ordered this washer (and matching dryer) 2 months ago. It was supposed to be delivered June 28th but due to everything going on with Covid-19, we just received it today. I searched TH-cam for a good instructional video since the manual it came with wasn’t helpful beyond the setup - like you mentioned. Your video was exactly what I needed and so today, good sir, you are my hero! Thank you for taking the time to detail how to use all the features of this washer! As I am sure many, many others have said, thank you for making the videos on this washer, it really helped narrow down models and ultimately convinced me to go with it. My ~20 or 22 year old washer packed it in a few days ago so some furious research and many phone calls later I found out that most places are sold out of almost everything due to ports moving slowly and the Black Friday sales that just happened. Wait times were up to 2 months but thankfully there was somebody within 2 hours that had this model in stock but it was the floor model.

I read the manual, but as you noted, it was useless in terms of telling me how to actually run the machine and set the various controls. I bought one of these a couple of months ago and this has been helpful, so thank you! It does not have the relaxing "back and forth" sound of a washing machine with an agitator and it doesn't ring my clothes out quite as dry as my front loader did but I really do like it. When it agitates it sounds like it is straining and I thought it was broken at first. It is more deep that a traditional top loader and holds more laundry without taking up more space. I am happy with it and may try to use my app now - I have not done so yet. Again - thank you

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Despite LG’s buzz words like LoDecibel motor, this machine is not quiet. During the spin segment it sounds like a freight train. Our washer lives in the basement, which is enough from living space that we barely hear it; however, if it was in our living space or next to a bedroom, it would be gone by now.

    • @MikeB-kq9hv
      @MikeB-kq9hv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BruceAlanR Thanks for telling me! Do you know a machine that is on the quiet side? Home Depot currently has a GE washer and dryer combo on sale for cheap that seem comparable to this LG model but would be 500 cheaper during the sale.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I had an answer for you, but noise wasn’t a consideration for me given the location of our laundry. I’d say compare the dB levels noted in the spec sheets of the models you’re interested in... although I don’t know if they’re really accurate. Good luck with your search, I know it’s frustrating which is why I decided to do a thorough review of this machine.

    The difference between cold and tap cold as well as warm and semi warm:
    Cold, is like 90% cold and 10% hot because if you have that little bit of hot water in there, the detergent will work more effectively.
    Tap cold, basically just straight 100% cold water from the tap.
    Semi warm, it is basically cool to luke warm water.

      Hi, I agree with everyone... You're very very helpful! Thanks SO much.. I'm supposed to gety this puppy tomorrow! (Along with a steam LG dryer) So I'd also LOVE a copy of your cheat sheet! 😁I'll find your email to request there, too! But ALSO, Big question- no salesmen can properly, definitively answer: Can you TURN OFF this machine mid-cycle to SOAK old ground-in stuff for your desired no.of hours, then turn back on without causing a scary error,??? (Silly me, I'm used to that old- fashioned notion of control of water & timing we always had.. Like on my 22-yr old machine lol! *Sniff RIP )

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question!... I'll have to do some testing tomorrow since I don't have an answer. What I do know is that if you turn the machine OFF mid-cycle (using the power button), the machine automatically drains the water; however, you can press the Start/Pause button to pause the load mid-wash as if you were going to add garments. Unfortunately, I don't know how long the machine will remain idle and whether it might turn itself off... and then drain. The manual says, "if the Start/Pause button is not pressed within 60 minutes OF SELECTING A CYCLE, the washer automatically turns off," but again that's within 60 minutes of SELECTING A CYCLE vs. pausing mid-cycle. Again, I will have to test it. Of course, you can always use the PreWash+Normal or add a soak cycle to help remove caked on grime.
      Email me at BalanR.reviews@gmail.com for the cheat sheet. Cheers!

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've tested the pause/add garment time! I paused the machine with the lid down after the tub had filled and unfortunately the machine automatically drained after 4 minutes of idle time. 🙁 Having said that, you can still use the Pre-Wash Normal, Soak Cycle, Stain Care, and Soil level options to extend soak time. Not sure what would have happened if I'd left the lid up though.

    I absolutely LOVE my LG Direct Drive Washer I was extremely skeptical after reading reviews and how alot of people don't like them vs agitator washers but I like to try stuff myself and form my own opinion. I can't speak for all of them but my particular model is superior in its cleaning preformance and it uses the perfect amount of water, like I've seen HE machines that I feel don't use enough water but mine actually does and I have the option to add more water if I ever choose in the middle of the wash cycle. I love the steam cycle's on it also. Every model is different in its features so you gotta just find the one for your family's needs. Get one with steam option if its in your budget thats a bonus to have a steam option I'm still fascinated by the features of these new washing machines. Its also much gentler on your clothing than agitator washers in which will shred your clothing if they accidently get caught like the old school washers most of us grew up on. Once you find a GOOD direct drive model for your needs you never want to go back.

      @@BruceAlanR The particular Model I have is LG WT7600H*A Version 072016.04 it looks very similar to the one in this video except it has steam and a few extra feature selections on the panel how ever I wish I had the remote start yours does that is the ONLY thing I wish mine had but it makes up with other features and preformance.. I think mine was made in 2016 or 2017 so I can't speak for the newer versions of my particular model, but I personally think its the best washer I've ever owned so far and I'm the type that likes old school simple washers..
      My biggest tip for those with HE washers is you don't need alot of soap or it WILL reduce your wash performance in an HE washer. If the detergent says fill to line 1 for HE machines don't fill it to line 3 anyways as you would a normal Old washer, more soap does NOT mean cleaner clothes and many consumers have issues with that bad habbit when switching from regular washers to an HE washer including myself at one point, and they blame the washer for poor performance when a good majority of the time its user error and not following the instructions on the detergent of choice.
      I had to learn that the Hard way at first & blamed the washer its self for poor preformance then when I "actually" followed the directions my clothes came out perfect. They put those measurements on the bottle for a reason but many of us still NEVER follow them and think HE machines are horrible cleaners when in fact they save us more in the long run. I'm a believer now in the whole HE machines when I use to hate them🤣🤣

    You did an excellent review of this washer kept it interesting, entertaining and thorough. My sister has an LG so I am familiar with it. I personally have a Speed Queen, even though it’s a 2019 model they perform totally different from the LG. Again great job with the review. 👍🏻

      What's different about your speed queen? Do you like it, or do you like the lg better?

    • @petermaz701
      @petermaz701 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony Karavidas I like the speed queen because it doesn’t use a wash plate it washes by using strong water currents and rotations. It’s actually very gentle and thorough. It has an auto fill system but you could set the water manually to low medium and high. Which I happen to like.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter - I've been doing some research on Speed Queen washers since many folks really like them. Would you mind sharing the model you have (TR3, TR5, TR7)? One of the things folks comment on with regard to the LG WT7300 is the inability to set the water level. I know some of Speed Queen models allow it to be set by the user or using auto mode. Correct? Also, most of us with the WT7300 agree the machine performs best with small to medium sized loads even though its tub capacity is 5.0 cu ft; however, I noticed the Speed Queens are only 3.2 cu ft. so they would only handle a medium to small sized load. Does that make sense?

    • @petermaz701
      @petermaz701 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BalanR the model I have is the TR7 you could wash a normal sized load in it without any issues. The tub can fill to the top so as long as there is water circulation your clothes come out clean and rinsed. Putting a large load in those wash plate washers from what I’ve seen on TH-cam the performance drops considerably that doesn’t happen in the Speed Queen. So considering it’s a smaller tub it makes better use of the full tub rather than partial use of a gigantic tub.

So many reviews said modern HE machines use too little water so main concern so far is does it clean well haha

      @BruceAlanR  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I addressed this in my email to you, but wanted to post here for folks reading the comments. I rarely use the WaterPlus option and feel that we achieve clean clothes by A) Not overloading the machine and loading around the center, and B) Using the cycles as intended (For example, Normal for clothes worn once; Heavy Duty for towels and stinky/dirty clothes; and Bedding for bedding, etc.)

Now that we’re beyond the learning curve, we’re pleased with it. From all the comments, there are definitely folks who are skeptical or not thrilled with the new technologies in general (for example, impeller vs. agitator, app, water levels, etc. ) and I agree there is a lot of “marketing” in the manufacturer’s claims, which are hard to corroborate. I just bought this washer, holy cow its an upgrade from the 6 year old front load samsung I had, it squeeked and clothes never got clean. And no matter how much we cleaned it couldn't get it to stop smelling or having mildew stains also the size of that washer with the pedastal was crazy. For this LG washer, Its amazing with these how you can drop a giant basket of clothes in put the detergent in drop the door and use the app to see how much time is left, and get notifications when the wash is done so you dont foget pushed to your phone

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I find the notifications very helpful. They allow me to turn over loads much quicker. As far as front loaders, we used to have one of those too and experienced the same odor and mold issues. We haven’t had any of those issues with this machine.

    Thanks for your video, very helpful, the specs say it's rated Energy Efficient, do you know about how many gallons of water it uses, the rating online says "poor" rating for water efficiency. We live in a city where water is very expensive.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s hard to tell exactly how many gallons are used per cycle since load sensing determines load size and how much water is necessary to get the clothes clean. As others have pointed out, the Normal Cycle using TurboWash is very stingy with water, while cycles like Deep Wash and Bedding require more. Obviously using the WaterPlus option with any cycle uses a generous amount of water for folks who want clothes fully submerged. Hope that helps!

    This machine will never last like the 20 year old agitator machine you had previously nor will it get heavy soiled clothes clean despite the endless programs it offers. While it may be gentler on clothing, the lack of a center agitator eliminates effective clothing turnover during wash time. I do however wish you the best of luck with it and I can almost bet you’ll return to a center agitator for your next top load purchase.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate your thoughts and I agree this machine is not likely to last as long as our old Maytag did. I also think that while this machine has a lot more capacity than our Maytag, performance without an agitator is lackluster with large loads. Medium and small loads seem to have proper turnover and the loads come out clean, but then there’s no point of having the extra capacity. Thanks again for your sharing your thoughts.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, I don’t think you can set the water temp from the LG Thinq app. Once you’ve selected Remote Start on the machine, you can only change the cycle in the app and not the parameters. Definitely a limitation! You can select water temperature directly on the machine before pressing Remote Start on the machine and then start remotely though.

    Just got this washer, what a joke, it wouldn't even get most of the clothing\bedding down into the water, at the end of the cycle there were parts of the linen that were completely dry, not even the rinse got them wet.. LG was worthless on the phone in helping me, back to the manufacturer, never touching another LG appliance again.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing your experience. My best recommendation to folks with this machine is to be sure to separate laundry and use the appropriate cycle for best results. For example, Normal Cycle for everyday, normally soiled clothes; Heavy Duty for towels and heavy soiled/stinky/sweaty work clothes; Bedding for bedding; Water Proof for jackets, mattresses, and shower curtains, etc. I’ve figured much of it out through trial and error, which doesn’t say much for LG and the intuitiveness of the machine.
      The Normal Cycle is very stingy with water and Deep Wash uses a lot of water, but the motions are too tame so turnover suffers. Even though the machine has large capacity, I’ve found it does best with medium to large loads since turnover isn’t very good with extra, tightly packed, large loads. Thanks again!

    I stumbled across your video just to make sure my LG 7880 from Costco was normal. Clothes come out clean, and the units take some getting use to with their clunking sounds (which is why I wanted to make sure it was normal and found your video). Im happy to say, it sounds just like yours lol. I will encourage anyone reading this and with purchasing these to do the settings that you think it should be on. If you have towels, put it on towels, bedding or heavy items, use the setting. The washer adjusts water, time, and agitation for all these items and such so just do not put it on normal and let it roll. This I believe is the learning curve that is always mentioned. But excellent video and thanks for posting, and anyone looking to purchase these units, do not hesitate. They get top pics from Consumer Reports and work as expected.
