6:37 why this man will always remain my all time favorite metal vocalist when it comes to growling and screaming He may have fucked up his voice years after this, but in his prime he is the GOAT
This is such a privilege! Thanks for the upload. Can't believe they played in Twente in their Morningrise days! This era of Opeth made me pick up the guitar, even though I wasn't born when this concert happened, I will be eternally grateful for that. De Farfalla and Nordin are a great rhythm section too! I loved those epic basslines by De Farfalla! Wonder what could have been if they didn't leave? This gave me goosebumps! I never thought I would find such a nice performance of Nectar ever!!! Also funny to see his more black metal vocals here haha
It is a pity De Farfalla played bass only in Orchid and Morningrise. At the time, I started listening to Opeth and obviously loving them since the release of Morningrise... I felt betrayed that he left or Akerfeldt forced him to left, I don't know...
@@ColoriDiTe If I remember right he didn't want the tour schedule life for his family. I think they got along just fine, but Opeth tours a LOT. I think Fredrik is a fine addition to the current line up, but Opeth has def lost some talent over the years.
Thank you so so much for this! I traded Morningrise on tape for a Munisipal Waste CD when it first came out and have been a fan ever since. Didn't get to watch them live until i saw them playing with Porcupine Tree in Borås, Sweden in 2001 I believe. i would have given my left arm to watch this show. I've seen them multiple times since, but those early shows were something else. Ah man. That Borås show was supposed to be turned into a DVD, but it never happened... I know someone has the raw tape... *praying*
If people had known what they were witnessing there back then they would not have been talking. 😁 That's like one of the 25 gigs played before Blackwater park.
In fairness, only a handful of people knew they would be playing that night. I only knew because I called the venue to reserve tickets, and this mini tour of Cradle of Filth only had a couple of dates (this was before Dusk... was released) and wasn't really advertised in largely pre-internet times.
Its funny, because according to Mikael, he's written like 99% of Opeth's music. But there was a very noticeable change in feel when Martin and Peter left. Maybe they had influence on him even if he was the one doing almost all of the writing.
I disagree 200%. All their later albums are good. The compositions improved a lot since Ghost Reveries. Maybe you expected them to do another Blackwater Park or another Deliverance... Just saying.
For me, the real Opeth died with "Watershed". The transition from progressive death metal to prog hard rock band was complete by then. And all of what made Opeth great & unique was gone. Mikael did recently say he's starting to get the itch for Death/Black metal again, but we'll see.
@PeaceDweller Oh well, you still have... 7 albums of Opeth death metal. That's still pretty swell. Just go listen to them instead, and make your own music like Opeth Don't winge, do something about it
1. In The Mist She Was Standing - 0:11
2. Advent - 14:34
3. Nectar - 28:33
Thanks for posting the first three songs, but where's the rest of the setlist?????
No... wait...
@@henriquelourenco-atl It's where all the kids with severe ADD are. Not at this show.
I would do everything to experience this setlist live
@@ivyarcanum238 anything? would you blow the entire band and all their roadies?
@@Chad_Fuckhammer Generally I try to avoid s€xu@l intercourse with idols or authority figures. I'm afraid it wouldn't help us anyway in this regard.
When Opeth was pure.
The fact that this footage exists blows my fucking mind. Thank you for this.
9:25 It's so precious to see them play the ending of 'In The Mist She Was Standing'.

do you really think he fucked up his voice after listening to paragraph one?
Awesome to see Johan with his Yamaha trb6p, he is an awe-inspiring musician
first old footage with decent quality! thx for uploading
This was sitting in a box for 25 years.
Kwaliteit is echt ongekend goed man!
Due to this being an SVHS recording.
Probably one of the last times they had played In The Mist She Was Standing and Nectar
Peach Nectar
Почему?
damn Mikael improved his stage banter so much over the years lol
Opening for Cradle of Filth, those where the days ....🤘🤘🤘
Perfection! Killer band, nobody sounded like those guys!! A treasure for sure.
OMG! I had a 57th generation copy of this VHS. Thank you!!!

I'll need to upload the interview I did with Johan and Mikael from that night...
@@WhatsMetalRadioshow sir, can you, please...?
epic rhythm section without a doubt. I definitely think they truly became a shell of it's former glory when Peter left though

Incredible how unpolished they were, with the guitar issues compared to now… but the musical genius is still obvious. Thanks for sharing this!!
I’ve searched so far and wide for a live version of Nectar with that melancholy riff before the ending! Thank you so much!!!!!!!
This is the first footage in which I’ve seen De Farfalla and Nordin playing live. Thank you so much for uploading this!
Watching their old shows is kinda mesmerizing 😵💫

Thank you very much!!!

great work.
I miss Peter's sound in the band.
This is the true sound of Opeth
Is he wearing a fucking suit?
They looked funny
This crowd looks like they came to see Spice Girls and got this instead

Glory days
Lol when he fucked up the clean part on Advent around 18:32
That's art but shush don't say it out loud
They messed up alot but otherwise still good 😹
They messed up at several parts of the song. Seems like it was one of their first shows.
They really improved a lot.
the mix is odd at least from what this mic could pick up. the clean guitars much louder than the dirt.
Is there any footage of them playing Circle of the Tyrants?
Yipster Metal
the band has been a shell ever since Peter left

Watershed is great, though. But yeah, the live experience is a different story.
