How extraordinary to see Venice, or any other city in Europe, empty in the Summer. I guess one of the few times in history that the entire continent will look and feel like that. Thanks for sharing.
hi from Italy; it's an unusual time for sure. this weekend I managed to finally escape my small town, drive a bit and reach Siena. Perfect weather, hardly any tourist around, all the famous spots (usually crammed with groups) nearly empty. Restaurants and shops are open (if they manage to stay this way...); the duomo, museums are not completely accessible yet but each one of them is open and for now the tickets are free. when I watched the presence counter of the duomo museum, it read "33". Given the extremely low number of people around, it's very unlikely to catch the virus this way, so in a way it's the perfect time to enjoy the places.
Ben Barnes With all due respect. I thought all thing and everything under the sun is the grand plan from the all mighty, from the Black Plague of 1300 to the Spanish flu of 1918 to this awful COVID-19. Perhaps you have a personal and direct line to the all mightily in which case. Ok
@@hlb979 , Today I booked 2 holiday houses in Siena and Chianti and I must say that the properties were in proportion of 60-70 % already booked for August. So I guess you will have tourists this summer but maybe in Iuly and August more than now. May I ask you if you have any restrictions over there at the moment?
Paptsi Paptsi that's good to hear ☺️. No restrictions afaik in the whole country with the exception of two very small red zones in places you wouldn't even consider for tourism. I've been around the last few days, mainly in Umbria (one of the regions that was among the less stricken, very close to Siena and Arezzo - sorry for the delay, that was the reason ☺️) and I have to say that some tourists (even international) are around; no real crowds in tourist areas, people do tend to keep distance on average (but unfortunately also quite a number of locals that do not care, outdoors), shops and sites try to adhere to the rules to an ok-ish level , in restaurants it's a bit harder for obvious reasons (owners and waiters wear a mask, people obviously not, places are frequently cramped, but the administration's tend to allow the m to place tables outside even more than usual, improving the effective distance). Hotels seem ok. Temperarure checks and hand sanitizers are frequent. Museums have frequently overhauled their internal paths, so they are uni-direcrional and some areas might be not available, but prices then are discounted. In short: situation seems quiet, not all people are appropriately aware (too much optimism in some maybe, but it's hard to wear masks outdoors under the sun), the red zones are for now limited to - as it's happening in other European countries - to put it bluntly but clearly - where illegal workers are cramped together. Please feel free to ask any other question
I was in Venice the summer before last and there were huge crowds. It's amazing to see the city empty like that. You're fortunate to get to experience it like that. I also think it's a good opportunity for the locals to work on how they want to reform tourism to something more sustainable for them.
Wow!!! Your Venice looks soooo different to mine. I remember sitting and chilling by the canal for HOURS, just to escape the crowds and this was mid to late September. I honestly can't believe this is the same Venice!! Nothing short of magical. The Bridge Of Sighs is still my screen saver on my phone nearly 2 years on haha. Yet another epic video Jason, well done! I'm so happy you got to experience this beautiful city this way.
So beautiful. Takes me back to last fall when I fell in love with Italy and left part of my heart there. The beauty, the people and the food were all perfect. Thank you for this video.
Using Google maps, any map really, to walk through Venice is an insult to the city. I lived there for 3 years once and I can't wait to return. Venice is my favorite place in the world. Frankly, I wish that I had been there when we were all locked down. As an American, it will be a long time before I can return. BTW, Your Dorsoduro accent was just fine, and I thank you for the short cello pieces. Savor all that Venice has to offer during this time. Just being there is all one needs. Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm sitting here alone in my apartment in New York unemployed and unhappy. Seeing the empty streets and quiet canals of Venice really brought me some peace. Someday, hopefully, if this Covid-19 is ever brought under control, this American will finally go to Italy. Peace
Absolutely well done again, from start of your train trip in the UK showing how empty it is, through to your travels to wonderful historic Venice. Your filming and editing is very well done. It's a perfect travel documentary, as are all your others. A fantastic idea to take advantage of this lockdown situation and coming to Venice at this time. I remember hitch hiking to Venice and walking the 8km causeway with my backpack back in 1973 when there were few tourists and forty years ago I came back to Venice as an international model and had an assignment with Miss Italy. One of my favourite pictures is sailing on a yacht in Venice on my 29th birthday on 4th July birthday in 1980 with Miss Italy in my arms! (Forty years ago!) And it's memories like this that will never fade away. So to watch your videos of Venice forty years later certainly brings back many pleasant memories. I look forward to watching all your future travel videos. You tell a great story each time. Cheers from the Train Lord in South Australia.
for me, the only fear is that a new lockdown will be issued and then you are trapped in some beautiful awesome place like Venice.... well... maybe not a bad thing haha :))
Hi Jason, great video! Loved every history lessons as a Venetian. I remember you walking in Dorsoduro with your camera, I own a small Gelateria near Santa Maria della Salute and you passed in front of me. I didn’t make it into your video but I loved it nonetheless. Keep up the good work, you earned a subscriber! Cheers :)
In one way, it’s kind of awesome to have Venice all for yourself. On the other hand, there’s a bit of life missing from the empty streets. Guess it’s definitely a new normal for now 🙌💯
Beautifully done! More history please and LONGER! I was married in Venice long before anyone had ever heard of a "destination wedding"...In the Farsetti Palace near the Rialto, which is City Hall now. Local government so taken with the fact that two young Americans would go through the trouble (and indeed it was a lot of trouble!) to get married there that they showered us with flowers and a gondola ride where people sang out and dropped flowers on us as we floated under bridges along the various tiny canals. Truly magical! Venice remains one of my top worldwide destinations for its history and its beauty. Watch "Merchant of Venice" with Al Pacino as Shylock.
Wow.... I have been to Venice in 2015 and watching this is the first time I feel I'm "reliving" the visit. The architectural details of the building are so richly vivid - what excellent image quality! Thank you!
OMG...... I so envy you. Venice is my favourite city. I've never seen it like this in all the years I've visited. Not even in autumn or winter. Unfortunately my health won't allow me to return for a long time time. Enjoy every moment.
Thanks a lot, Jason, for this very impressive video. Me as an Italian, I'm really surprised to see a so void and quiet Venice. It's so amazing, but also so alarming at the same time, as it makes me think about how many jobless people have been generated by this absurd situation. Anyway it's also a good opportunity for us all to think about where we humans, with our habits and lifestyle, have arrived, and where we want to go in the future... Stay safe... Andrea
It is SO EMPTY! I love Venice and part of its charm is the vibrancy of the people that hustle and bustle throughout the narrow streets. Thank you for this experience.
Excellent! I am currently in Austria, so I will take advantage of this lack of the usual throng of tourists and head there very quickly. Thanks for the tip ;-) Well done with video 👍
Spectacular tour! I was lucky to be in Venice in Sept. 2008, at the end of the season, so it wasn't so crowded, but nothing like now! How blessed you are to have been there! Thanks for sharing.
The charm and appeal of Venice is in the old world traditions it still practices. Sending large cruise ships full of tourists would just be heartbreaking. What you showed in your video is the Venice I would love to see one day. A place not overrun with tourists disrespecting a city they’re so lucky to visit. A place where I can sit and just listen to the sounds of the city and locals going about their daily lives. Dreaming of vacations to come is just the escape I needed in quarantine. Thank you for posting this video! Cheers to traveling one day sooner rather than later.
Jason.. hello from Australia 🇦🇺... message to you from myself a travel agent of 35yrs.... seriously you have done so well with this video. I have been travelling to Italy since 1975 & never have I seen Venice in this mode.... something to file for your archives & media history WELL DONE 👏👏👏
Absolutely absorbing the Venice that we saw through you. Places that weren't ever shown to be seen because of the crowds. Thanks loved seeing some lovely places the Bell Tower's panoramic view was breathtaking . The details about the Saint's body smuggled through was fascinating. Thanks Jason for the treat.
Oh my gosh! So sad seeing this. I was there in January which was supposed to be a 'quiet' time but it was still busy. I hope it rebuilds again soon. Such lovely fond memories! Great video.
Great video Jason. I'm a Venetian and it has been a great pleasure for me to see how you really enjoyed our city, how you have tried to tell its great history and artistic heritage. That's what we need: people like you who really love and respect our beautiful but fragile city, who want to understand and to protect it. You will be always welcome in the calli (streets) and in the campi (squares) of Venice.
It is is terribly eerie to see it with no people, but the city seems to be taking a deep breath at the break it has been given . Thank you for sharing!!!!! We were there 4 years ago and treasure the experience, but seeing it this way would be even more spectacular & natural to the way it should be.
I was there in 2000 and I'm so taken back by how empty it is now - it was packed when I was there. It seems a bit bittersweet experience for you. Nice to get through and experience the city without the crowds but strange how empty it is. Thanks for sharing!
It seems a wonderful time to travel, if it's safe, with things so empty. Enjoyed the video, as I do all your tours. I liked your music selections; and I think it's nice to see Venice a bit rainy, and to be aware of the sea.
I spent 11 days in Venice in January, just before Covid19 and apart from the weekend, it was a lot quieter than I had expected, but still no where near as quiet as in your upload. That was a really well put together Vlog and I enjoyed it very much.
Thank you for visiting italy ...it 's a different atmosphere but wonderful as well... what matters most is that italy is safe ....come and visit the south as well🏖
Beautifully done,Jason ! Congrats. Your love for this unique spot in the World comes strongly through! How strange it is to see Venice free from tourists ! Italy for Italians. Actually it looks that special every evening after tours leave the lagoons. Thank you !
A great video, dear Jason. You've shown the pearl with such a taste - right the way I'd like to see it. We visited this fabulous city a year ago. At times it was diffucult to squeeze in between the others. What a stunning difference today. Fell in love with Venice now. Thank you.

Must be very lucky to travel during the silent times, it's so calm and wonderful to watch this video. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience sir. I was longing to watch such a video, Thanks again💛
When I was there it was so filled with tourist (like me) that it more felt as a theme park than an Unesco protected old city... It's nice to see it almost empty!
So dam divine! U did an excellent job Jason! Beautifully captured the city in a gloomy, cloudy day. Great editing and music sections and felt like a movie that depicts a story from past times.make me wanna go to Venice again! Also i loved u describes the historical aspects of some places. Awesome!
I love all of the comments on this post. What a extraordinary and intriguing video. It's like Venicians have their city back for the first time in decades. You are soooo lucky to be there.
Thank u so much for coming in Italia as a tourist and really enjoy Venezia. We need people like you who tells about history and how beautiful is our country and people. Thank u for appreciate no mass tourism. Also we Italians after all shit we want to appreciate our country
You have been to Venice for the first time, fantastic. My wife and I have been many times, and we've barely scratched it's surface. It doesn't take long to realise that there is SO much more. Congrats your first trip, it won't be your last.
Hi, I just came across your channel. Seeing the number of subscribers you have, I'm not surprised. You are personable and relaxed, the video had a compelling narrative, and you're not just trying to upsell . I was impressed and I'm looking forward to more of your videos.
You are so lucky to have Venice almost all to yourself. We visited last summer and it was packed, it was hard to enjoy the beautiful city. But I still fell in love with it!
Superb vlog from a city I may never see first hand! Venice isn't a city that I have got a passion for, but you kept my interest alive throughout the video. You're both a good narrator and filmmaker. I also enjoyed your vlogs from Kazakhstan and Turkey! Keep moving and making high quality sightseeing for those of us who aren't able to travel as much as we'd want to. Thanks 👀
I visited Venice at the beginning of December. It was also a pretty quiet time, but nothing like this. The most stunning place I have ever visited. It entranced me. I will return ♡
I love architecture. It’s one of the reasons I travel. Wish it was this quiet when I visited Venice a year ago. Back then I was mostly surrounded by walls of people so it’s difficult to move about and get in a position to really study the buildings and monuments. Watching this video made me realize that I missed quite a few things, like the darker color of the 9nth and 10nth columns.
Beautiful,y observed, Jason. Thanks for giving us this rare opportunity, and keep on with your sensitive, discerning work. Your vlogging is distinctive, authentic, and refreshingly sincere. Bravo.
I was in Venice last May and the main piazza you were in was absolutely crazy and buzzing with tourists. Crazy to see it empty in your video. Thanks for the video!
Thank you soo much for your tour visit to Venice! Visited last year April/May, 2019, and it is a HUGE difference without tourists. I truly miss it. It’s just soo beautiful in Venezia.❤️Thank you again.
Foi justamente no mês que visitei Veneza, há dois anos atrás. Estava lotada e fazia muito calor. Um sol lindo!!! A cidade é maravilhosa!!!! Parece que se está voltando no tempo quando a gente se deixa perder em suas ruas incríveis!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🥰
Wow! Been there multiple times and always wondered what it was like without people.... early morning walks are great but this is incredible! Thanks for the vlog!!
Been to Venice five times in my life, in every season except autumn. The last time was 25 years ago and there was a great deal of foot traffic, much more than I had ever experienced. However, it was nothing like the photo you showed near the Ponte dei Sospiri. I did see the Piazza San Marco deserted once; at 02:00 early Easter morning in 1972, after midnight Mass in the Basilica. Of course it was murky, with the light from the street lamps seemingly swallowed by the gloom, creating a spooky atmosphere. It's a shocking scene in broad daylight. At least the pigeons still appear to be there. Thank you for your Venice vlogs. Chuck
I share with you the love of the history which comes alive in your vocal descriptions of Venice . I was captivated by your video . I hope to visit there next Summer - we'll see .
Hello Jason, finally a recent Venice video from a travel vlogger. I was there with family last August just before the lockdowns happened. We stayed behind the Sta. Maria de Salute church and it was very hot then. I'm hoping to go back there in the future. One suggestion Jason, always wear your mask when you're there. You have a new subbie from California here.
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your video as it brought back my walks through Venice. I was fortunate to be there just before Christmas. The city is very quiet then.
Wow! That's pretty stunning! I am so jealous that we can't even leave Canada at this point. 2 of my travel plans this year have been canceled. Stay safe Jason!
Great video! Having visited more then once, this was chilling!!! I love Venice. Sometimes normal crowds, but ok and then the cruise ships come in and it’s shoulder to shoulder people and let’s not forget the high tides...and then your Video of a ghost city. Thank you❤️
I took the train from Rome to Venice in November, the water taxis were a good way to get around i went out to the neighboring Islands on it. Ill always remember that moment coming out of the train station and seeing the grand canal
you can see Venice like this every day of the year, as long as you go after midnight. As a student I often went there. This is the secret to seeing Venice.
Man you are so so lucky to be almost alone in such a wonderful place. I went 6 months ago and was just rivers of people. Enjoy your trip and keep safe 😎😎🤙🤙
We were there in late December and it was very low population most of the day just gorgeous - thank you so much for this video I love what you have done here
I went the 3rd week of October last year and we had St. Mark's Square pretty much all to ourselves when we went out around 7-8 am. Tail end of the tourist season was a great choice. It's neat to see the streets so empty in your vlog.
I was in Venice June 2018. Venice looks amazingly eerie and empty. But What an incredible experience not to have the city overrunning with tourists! I ❤️ 🇮🇹 ! Renee from California USA 🇺🇸. I hate Covid
How wonderful to actually see Venice rather then seething crowds. You really have a very privileged view. I regularly watch walking tours of 2 hours and more, so a longer video would be great. Stay safe though.

Still fascinating. Venice hasn't lost its classic grandeur and beauty.
Why should she have lost them? Lockdown without tourists was detoxifying for this city.

Venice is my favorite city in Italy. I have visited a lot, various times of the year. I have never seen it like this. I am envious of you.
ITALY A LIVING DREAM.!!!!!! VENICE FABULOUS, ,!!!!!
My wife and I have been many times, and we've barely scratched it's
surface.
After the CORONA pandemic, it seems so calm and charming to see ancient places. I love these places.
Thank you for sharing this fascinating view of an almost empty Venice. More videos like this would be most welcome.
Excellent video, good narration, interesting facts and an ending which raises an issue to make viewers think. Thank you.
Thanks 👀
I'd happily watch 40+ minutes. Always insightful and inspiring.
I visited Venice at the beginning of December. It was also a pretty quiet time, but nothing like this. The most stunning place I have ever visited. It entranced me. I will return ♡
Hope you will come back in better times.
thanks and greetings from murano
Spectacular! Wish it was this quiet last year in July. Venice remains as beautiful as ever though.
I thoroughly enjoyed your video. You have an engaging and gentle camera-presence and the shooting is very good. I'm glad I found you.
How fortunate you are to be in Venice with no tourists! A truly a once-in-a-lifetime event!! Enjoy it while you can!!!
Thank you soo much for your tour visit to Venice! Visited last year April/May, 2019, and it is a HUGE difference without tourists. I truly miss it. It’s just soo beautiful in Venezia.❤️Thank you again.
We visited Venice in 1993 and the place was packed with people. Lovely to see this fabulous city again, even if it is devoid of people.
Foi justamente no mês que visitei Veneza, há dois anos atrás. Estava lotada e fazia muito calor. Um sol lindo!!! A cidade é maravilhosa!!!! Parece que se está voltando no tempo quando a gente se deixa perder em suas ruas incríveis!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🥰
Amazing video, thanks from an Italian dude living in Berlin, kind of nostalgic of his own country. Don't worry about your accent, it is cute.
Loved your video - it was insightful and helpful as I'm going to Venice in two weeks. Thank you.
As always, job well done Jason. You are a very courageous man to do this in these circumstances. Stay safe, and keep on taking us along.
What a marvellous occasion to visit, totally unique, the most beautiful and fragile city with NO cars absolutely wonderful
Chuck
Such a great time to visit...once in a lifetime opportunity with no crowds!
Really nice job showing Rome and Venice. I like the mystery you add into the video.
Thank you for this awesome video. Along with the background music. Much appreciated.
Wow! That's pretty stunning! I am so jealous that we can't even leave Canada at this point. 2 of my travel plans this year have been canceled. Stay safe Jason!
Beautiful and great choice of music! ! Thank you for sharing!
Such a beautiful place...thank you for always sharing jason! Thank you for the history telling from that bell tower!
God bless you!
Thank you for this real report without chasing some sensation. You were there adoring the city and you are humbled.
Really appreciate your historical references and deeper reflections on the importance of what you are seeing.
Nice video. How fortunate you are to see Venice without the crowds. Thanks for sharing.
you can see Venice like this every day of the year, as long as you go after midnight.
Hope you will come back in better times.
thanks and greetings from murano
Great videos Jason ,just watched all three of the Venetian ones. Keep up the good work
i was there during covid too... it was the best time to visit it. i was there with my partner, it was amazing... now it's back to the usual crowds
How wonderful to actually see Venice rather then seething crowds. You really have a very privileged view. I regularly watch walking tours of 2 hours and more, so a longer video would be great. Stay safe though.
As a venetian I can say that this is the right way to narrate Venice. Thank you so much!
Grazie!
