Well yeah but in the video, he states that Ishin is ranked so poorly because he couldn't understand jackshit, so I feel my point still stands. Notice I didn't say the same about Kenzan as he mentions that he followed a translation when he played that.
The best part of Dead Souls in my opinion is playing as Majima because of the fact, as you mentioned, he is probably one of the only characters not taking the zombie apocalypse serious and he's acting like his usual self! Plus who wouldn't want to play as Majima!
While kiwami was more of an expansion pack. It was understandable they went that route of re used assets because they were also working on yakuza 6 at the time. Yakuza games usually have a 1-2 year dev cycle.
What's amazing is that despite all that, Yakuza games are all content-rich. It is definitely up there along with the later Persona series as the best RPGs the world of console gaming can offer.
child prostitution honestly don't see the problem with that being in a game as long as its depicted as being a horrible crime against humanity but if there was a child prostitution mini game that's where I draw the line
@@V_For_Vigilante Have you played either of those games? Because the only thing Pokèmon and Persona have in common is that they’re the same genre of turn based JRPGs.
Definitely the best story of the bunch, I only have 0 above it right now because it had the gameplay to match (PS2 era still had problems, great at the time though).
PG Tips Because not everyone who plays the game will understand japanese and unlike Kenzan, its actually kinda hard to follow as the translation resources arent there. Besides, its just my opinion not an official government ranking!
i mean if you’re a westerner who doesn’t speak Japanese and you want to play the game, then it loses a lot of its value, I don’t fault him for this, more just a bad move on SEGA’s part for making it less accessible for the global community, just like phantasy star 2
@@MastaToken To be ethical? What? He can do whatever he wants, it's his list. Since this isn't a deep analytical video and is soley based off his opinion then he can do whatever.
Seriously, you don't need to feel sorry for having a personal opinion. Games are made for people. Not for game critics. If you enjoy it then say it. If not then say it.
I can’t think of many games where I just instantly had so much fun playing more than Yakuza 0 like you said the gameplay story and music is just so great.
new vegas has the edge to fallout 3 in a multitude of ways. being set in the west coast makes it the closest to classic fallout we can get of the modern-day bethesda fallouts. the intro is a LOT friendlier with repeated playthroughs. fill out some forms and, the second you leave doc mitchells house the rest of the tutorial is 100% optional. hell, the entire game up to where you kill benny is optional on repeat playthroughs. you can just, go straight to new vegas and pump benny full of lead without even meeting with mr house first. new vegas is a LOT less interested in wasting your time if youve already played before. fallout 3? nuh-uh. you gotta re-live your childhood over and over if you start a new character. the intro of 3 is a lot slower. and, while for the first time it's great. repeat playthroughs just highlight how boring it is. this is just one of many reasons why new vegas is better designed imo.
4 is possibly the best, apart from Zero. It has the most detailed map of Kamurocho to explore with the rooftops and subways and it has the introduction of Akiyama.
Akiyama and kiryu are the only two things in this game that captivated me. And the game is easy as shit compared to all of the games in the series. Saejima's part is boring as shit. Tanimura's fighting style fucking sucks and is only redeemed by his sidequests. And also, Amon and his clan is a fucking joke in this game.
It's pretty scary how our start to the Yakuza series was identical. We both found Yakuza 3 in our local shop and said "F it, I'll give it a shot." What a great shot that was.
I'm honestly confused by the title, because it says: ''Ranking the Yakuza games from BEST to WORST.'' which means you're ranking the top 10 as the BEST and ranking the top 1 as the WORST! Just wanted to point that out.
Alright! Oh, and for my opinion of this list. Well personally, I've played Yakuza: Dead Souls, and despite what people said... I actually REALLY like this game, especially Majima, that crazy character who LOOOOVES being involved in a situation where he has to shoot zombies. And Goda Ryuji.... OH GOD YES!!! Goda Ryuji, I'm glad that SEGA brought him back to that game, he was one of my favorite characters from the Yakuza series! Oh, and the substories are pretty good and entertaining as well in my opinion. The shooting, well personally, I think it's a VERY fun part of this game! There wasn't a time where I called it repetitive or was bored shooting varies of zombies! And the story was also original and cool in my opinion as well. For Yakuza 2, well personally... I haven't really played it, but hey, at least it's got Goda Ryuji on it! As for Yakuza Ishin, there was actually a translation where KHHsubs provided in the text and video translations, and because of that, I managed to follow the story. But... there is one big problem I had with the game, and that is one word: GRINDING!!! Holy Lord of Jesus, there is a LOOOOOOOT of grinding! From items, experiences, and weapons! Seriously, I've played this game for like hours, and leveling up, upgrading weapons, and getting rare items were a CHORE for me to do! Those are my opinions about the list, otherwise, great job.
Are you gonna redo this list now that 6, K1 and K2 are out in english? Will you wait until Judgement releases, or otherwise review that when it comes out? I'd really like to hear your opinion on this series more.
Ishin to me personally is in top 3.. Although the developers twisted the history of Japan (or I should say the characters during this era of Japan), but they did it perfectly.. It's getting more and more fun and amazing as story unfold.. The styles of fighting with different weapons and learning them are also interesting..
I think you did unfair thing to Ishin. Just because you don't understand it, you can't place it so low. Why did you even bought this then? It would be better if you not included Ishin at all at this point. As for the others, I think it's quite normal. Don't really know where I would put Yakuza 2, but except that, it's actually normal list.
I think that yakuza 2 is way better yakuza 1. Yakuzas 2 combat is smooth and responsive unlike 1 where you would get stuck in a combo with no means of defending yourself, yakuza 2 let you freely move and change targets mid combo as well as having more defensive options. Yakuzas 1 combat is not bad but it is a shallow puddle compared to yakuza 2. Yakuza 2 also has much better substories, most of yakuzas 1 substories were dull at best. While yakuza 2 does have some bland substories there are alot more good than bad. Alot more substories are multiparters which helps them stand out more and have more personality. Most of yakuzas 1 substories mostly consist of scams or boring fetch missions, on the other hand yakuzas 2 submissions really make you feel like you made someones life bettes which makes them more rewarding. Goda is also a much better antagonist and rival than Nishiki. Those are my 2 cents on the matter. I still enjoyed the video but I just wanted to share my opinion. I hope you respond to this Id like to hear your thoughts on this.
I couldn't really comment on which of those are better because I've played the ps4 versions. I'm not sure if the side missions are any different and I'd say that the main villian was better in the second one but the stories themselves are on par with eachother mainly from how poorly done the kiryu x karou sub plot was done. Since it's a redo they could've improved on the story to make it more of a progression similar to how kiwami added scenes of nishiki to help give him more development alongside having him in 0 as well.
I feel like my experience with 3 was hampered by the fact that I when playing it had a barely working ps3 and a broken controller wgich either didn't have buttons registering being pressed or registering it as being held down so I'd be going to do a parry to do the dropkick thing and I'd suddenly run in a circle
Interesting list. Everyone's got their own opinion! My favorite one is Yakuza 2. Will be interesting to see how you like Yakuza 6 now that you're invested in the series.
Johan Öberg Thanks a lot for watching dude! It was actually your list that gave me the idea to make one of my own, so I am glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, definitely looking forward to Yakuza 6 and rebuying Kiwami in English :D
Matt Odlum I suspected something like this since not to many themes get cut in the west and there are a handfull of japanes games who also have plot points involving children, like drakengard for example.
Too bad Tanimura's voice actor is getting replaced with the PS4 remaster. Kinda dumb considering its a remaster and not a remake like the Kiwami games.
Good list - fuck knows where I'd put 2 but I think I disagree Goda and Sayama are such class introductions to the series, I miss them a wee bit. Also I choose to believe that Kiryu and Sayama were riding like mad.
I'm only at entry 9 so far and I'm pretty sure all the dislikes from the video came from people misinterpreting the fallout analogy. And also because everyone loves Yakuza 2. What he meant with the fallout thing was that NV didnt change much in terms of gameplay from 3, just as Yakuza 2 didnt change much from the first game. He never says NV is inferior, yall are just braindead. Yakuza 2 definitely has a better story than most of the games in the series, but the PS2 era Yakuza games werent great when it came to gameplay.
Yakuza 6 is undoubtedly the best. Anyone who has a different opinion is because he/she got too attached to the game he likes and is ignorant about the other ones. I've finished all of them and anyone who says Yakuza 6 isn't the best, is lying.
0 is put onto the market after 4, so some of the stories are referenced to 4. Why Majima lost an eye, why he was the club manager, why he could not leave Sotenbori, all related to the story of Saejima in 4.
Well each game has that shit yourself moment. in 0 they had him shoot a rocket with a pistol. in 6 he shoots a helicopter with a rocket... those are the only ones I can think of right now.
Is Kiwami in JP voices with eng subtitles? Or it is in garbage english? Also Nice list :) I am just playing Yakuza 5. Its my only game from the series so far I own :-D So far I am enjoying it :) I will buy probably the rest of the yakuza games on PS4 :)
On Yakuza Kenzan: "there are plotpoints that wouldn't have been looked upon fondly" this has got my curiousity up way high and I'm kinda pissed he doesnt tell us what he means. Someone please clear me up to free my soul.
watched this list and.... i don't mind your opinion it isn't the issue but most of the issues comes from the fact that most of your criticisms aren't really criticisms and more of a personal preferences, like it's not the games problem that you don't understand the native language or that the story didn't engage you because... unknown reasons felt people would be more forgaving if you titled this vid "my top yakuza games" or "my ranking of the yakuza games" something to indicate that the video is highly subjective instead of actual critique and lisiting
I also didn't enjoy Yakuza 2's story. Final Boss feels super under-developed. There are so many fucking plot twists towards the end. You know in Yakuza Kiwami, if you use the same heat move over and over, the damage will decrease each time you use it. That's what Yakuza 2's plot makes me feel like. The writer uses the same trick over and over doing plot twists. Ishin, on the other hand, is a really really great game. It's my second favorite Yakuza game after Yakuza 5. It will likely not get localized in English however, which a shame.
Ranking the Yakuza Games from Worst to Best My top 8 list: 8. Yakuza DeadSouls 7. Yakuza 1/Kiwami 6. Yakuza 4 5. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life 4. Yakuza 0 3. Yakuza 2/Kiwami 2 2. Yakuza 3 1. Yakuza 5 I haven’t played the Japanese only Kenzan, Ishin or the PSP duology.
as someone who recently jumped into the series due to xbox game pass, i absolutely fell in love with 0 and Kiwami. But as soon as i got to Kiwami 2, i just got instantly turned off. the combat, graphics, upgrades, mini map layout, etc. it just didnt sit right. i will roll with it and see if the story makes up for it, but im already missing the previous games a ton.
Interesting list. I don't know enough about the series to argue with any of your decisions, BUT I was disappointed that you gave the two Black Panthers the shaft. You branded the zombie game as "the worst game next to the PSP ones." Did you play either of them? I have the first Black Panther and I think they did a nice job with it. It's less crowd control and more one-on-one brawling, and it works fine for the format.
Great video dude. Nice to get an opinion from someone who's actually managed to play every game in the series, and even had the determination to play the Japanese-only spin-offs!
I'm surprised by how high 3 is. Since your vid avoids spoilers I'll do my best to avoid spoilers here too. I get that 2 didn't grab you. but 3 for me was such a step down after playing 2, not just because of the cut content, but because the story was really underwhelming and just drops characters from the plot for no reason. I was shocked that Majima didn't play a bigger role in the story, and there's this one character that has two scenes establishing him as somewhat of a threat, but after you beat a certain boss he effectively disappears from the plot. And once you talk to this one character and learn what's going on, the story lost all tension for me completely, because nothing's at stake anymore. There's this other character, which I'll admit made for an incredible boss fight, but made no sense completely and disappears from the series after this game without a mention. How did Kazuma not know about this one character? This one character could've easily resolved the issues that emerge in the later games with a single phone call. This one character was way too incredulous, and it seems the writers don't care about seeing how he fits into the later games' stories, they just wanted this particular boss fight to happen, no matter how contrived. The ending felt like a complete slap in the face. I agree with 4 > 3, 4 needed more screen-time for its villains, and some of the plot twists were too ridiculous and laughable, but I enjoyed playing it 100% of the time, and the story grabbed me way better than 3 did. Also, I feel like you kind of cheated including Kiwami, but it's your list, so obviously you make the calls. Overall, I liked this video, but I can't say I agree with putting 3 so high.
Yea i kinda agree, i played 3 after 2. While story is great as always with yakuza game, gameplay kinda......boring, maybe my opinion. Also i dunt really like okinawa setting that much tbh. Osaka is way2 better imo. Then i played 4, its......way better than 3, less boring too cpz u got 4 charas, story also better overall
Very late, but I felt 2's plot was weaker than 3 for these reasons: they abuse the Jingweon twists way too much and apply it to a detective, Terada, Ryuji, Sayama, and police chief, Ryuji is effectively sidelined after the chapter his introduced for most middle part of the game until finale for the sake of lame antagonists (Takashima, Sengoku, etc. who are underdeveloped archetypes), and the finale was an utter mess. The story definitely started out strong, but by the end, with the amount of plot twists coming out of nowhere, and Kiryu just acting out of character (praising Shimano/Dojima to Daigo or kissing Kaoru when Haruka watches his imminent death) it definitely became the weakest game for me. 3 had problems, but it was just way more emotionally relevant to Kiryu than 2 was. Combat wise, I'll compare Kiwami 2 to 3. 3's strengths become 2's cons and vice versa. 3 had great heat action versatility, great moveset, but he does too little damage and you can't bypass blocking in the beginning. K2 has fun physics, extreme heat mode, and nice upgrading system. But it's just too limited and you become so OP near the endgame it's not that fun anymore.
I'm surprised about Yakuza 2 but hey it is what it is, other than that your list is pretty solid and I liked that you focused on the story of each one. (Then again which fan in this series wouldn't)
I sort of agree with you about yakuza 2's story. I think all of the stories are very good. I wanted the second one to be a good one since it has the main villian. Ryuji's a great character and I liked that part of the story. I mainly had a problem with the romance in it. I was expecting it to be more of kiryu/haruka being involved with this conflict and another family. Even though she gets kicked out for the rest of the story I was still fine with it. I had a problem with Karou and kiryu getting together mainly. It could've been done alot better because throughout it seems like she hates kiryu and kiryu isn't really bothered about her usually ignoring her orders. So it only left me confused during that part where they kissed and the other part where kiryu is moping. I can see why she ends up getting scrapped at the start of three and getting back on track cause they're able to do that story alot better in my opinion.
Stumbling upon your video late... I agree with your list for the most part : -You should have excluded spinoffs (Kenzan, Dead, Ishin) -Yakuza 2 is soooo overrated (imo) -The only flaw in Yakuza 0 is the repetitiveness of a certain boss in Kazuma campaign. Majima's one was way better Why not update your list with Yakuza 6 et Kiwami 2 ?
I plan to in the future during this quarantine period. But just to quickly summarise, I would rate Kiwami 2 and 6 rather highly. I am just waiting to get my hands on the collection before I attempt to update the list. Thanks for watching!
IMO Yakuza 1/kiwami's story is almost god awful. It does have a strong start though. But after a bit after Haruka's introduced it just goes really far downhill. See Jingu at the end for proof, he was almost cartoonishly villainous at Rita Rupulsa from power rangers. Not to mention there's nothing to do minigame wise compared to 0
Late comment but since Yakuza Kiwami 1 is my first Yakuza game playing right now. I still have so much to do and felt it was full of content. I want to play 0 after finishing Kiwami 1.
For me: 0, 2, Kiwami, 4, 3, 6 , 1, 5. *Note: One only ranks lowly because it still had a slew of technical issues that really held back the gameplay. Story is still the 3rd best, hence Kiwami, same great story, fixed the gameplay.
Personally: 1) Yakuza 0 2) Yakuza 5 3) Kiwami 1 4) Yakuza 4 5) Yakuza 3 6) Yakuza Kiwami 2 7) Yakuza 6 I love all of them, but the gameplay in 6 and Kiwami 2 is unforgivably bad.
@@BassFaceBasher It's clunky, slow and choppy. It doesn't flow anymore. Style switching has been removed so now you only have one fighting style. But as for the few combos that you do have, there isn't much reason to use one over the other since for the most part, they all do the same thing. The 30fps frame rate will assault you as soon as you start playing: it's very jarring to go from the smooth 60fps goodness of Kiwami 1, to the choppy, barely readable 30fps mess in Kiwami 2. You may have noticed in 0 how many enemies have extremely fast attacks that are hard to read, since they have almost no start-up. Well, if you thought that was bad, wait until you see those same enemies with half the animation frames! Enemies also block a lot more in Kiwami 2. In 0, when an enemy blocks your attack, you can still keep comboing, right? A big part of the strategy is to break their guard with a heavy attack, cancel your recovery with a quick step(after building up enough Heat) and then punish them. But in Kiwami 2, if an enemy blocks, it stops your momentum dead and pretty much cuts off your options, rather than presenting new options like in 0. This is because when hitting a blocking enemy, you'll go into this "rebound" animation where your limb kinda bounces off the enemy, and you have to wait for this animation to complete to continue fighting. It completely removes the flow of the combat, and gives it a more stop-and-start feel. You can upgrade to make the combat less clunky, but no matter how many upgrades you get it's never going to feel even half as good as a base-level character from 0 or Kiwami 1. Every mini game has worse gameplay in Kiwami 2, too. The gameplay has been downgraded across the board. I enjoyed the game for its story, but I don't know what they were thinking with this gameplay. It's clear that they pushed the graphics to such a degree that they had no remaining power(or budget?) left with which to make the gameplay any good.
@@1SWINZ1 very detailed. I only finished kawami and 0. Loved them both fully. Im near the end of kawami 2 and i have to say i fully agree with you. This one story doesnt fully pull me in either but there is still some fun in it.
ive only played yakuza 0, but sadly ive switched to pc gaming and dont have time to dust the old ps3 to buy the others is waiting for the ps4 remasters a good idea?
Well, I don't think there has been any word of remasters just yet sadly and even if they do, they may not come to PC. So it seems like the only way to play them, at least now is to get the PS3 out sadly :( It is worth it though trust me!
Just finished Yakuza 0 for the first time yesterday, and I loved it. It has one of the best stories I've ever played through I just downloaded Yakuza 6 and Yakuza Kiwami on Gamepass, but I going to wait a little while to play them. Even though the gameplay and story of Yakuza 0 were both great I can't sit through all of that subtitle reading again so soon. If they could do English voiceovers Yakuza would be one of my favorite franchises because it reminds me of beat em up games from my childhood in the late 80's and early 90's
The reason I like yakuza kiwami is because it's actually challenging, it's really frustrating but this just makes it better, I also love yakuza 0 (the best one in my opinion) the story is amazing and the music is really cool.
ishin is one my favorites but yeah, im a japanese history addict. (Meiji era is a treat to any rurouni kenshin fan) of the main series, 4 was the one i liked most story wise, so much double crossing! hahaha
acully ishim would be the shogon era she is you watcher the ova'a of rurouni Kenshin trust and betray you see shogon wore the blue out fit and as the guy is in blue make him shogon
yeah, in true fact it goes around the very end of the edo period, but for me, what stands out most about the meiji period at all it's the initial phases, when the shogunate was just starting to fall apart, ishin shishi feeling was on the rise and all these revolutionaries clashed with these murderous shogunate police forces, even before the boshin war hahahah and yeah, i watched that OVA, awesome!
so yakuza ishin is based just before/a while before the maji started attacking damm it saga bring it the west we can crowd fund it to pay for subtitles and english text boxes
its about Kiryu and haruka/oharu possible romance in the plot, and her prostitution work at Tsuryua in Gion. but really, that's a historically accurate story element that no fan would really care about, only the hyper sensible ones, the media and ESRB. its a shame that only because of them the whole west got deprived of a great game and story in general. (i beat it with online english translation) There's no actual scene of romance between them, but in the ending that gets very implied. PS: haruka is underaged on this one.
Im ok with the list expect for putting 4 over 5?! I mean they have all the same amount of characters with haruka in 5 and the story i find a bit better in 5 and the final boss.

@ghostmurmur the individual stories in 5 are really good, I was just disappointed by the overarching plot. I loved Shinada (the baseball guy who replaced tanimura), I'll be curious to hear what you think.
For me Yakuza 0 (Raining Money, Bling, Flashy lights, Disco, Chicken Ceo) Yakuza Kiwami 2 (2 had one of the best stories and now with that dragon engine) Yakuza 5 (5 characters, 5 locations, 5x fun, tory is just a little messy) Yakuza 6 (Dragon engine baby!) Ishin (Just wish i knew how to read Japanese better) Yakuza 4 (The plot has so many holes and really hurt the experience for me) Yakuza Kiwami (Ehh was okay) Haven't played the other Yakuza games
You did not like tanimura? I loved him his style was so different and unique from the rest of the fighters I guess cause I like disabling fighting styles arm bars disarms and stuff like that
I replayed Dead Souls more than others, I like playing with my favourite characters vs zombies, what a break from the normal series. And I am know I am a minority here haha.
Tbh... imo... y3>y4 for some reason and it might be petty. 3 made me tear up while 4 did not. I don't know why but i didn't like yasuko enough as much as i would want to. Also i wasn't that interested in the story as much as the others. Probably because of less time for kiryu and majima in the story. Though 3 had some questionable directions as well, Rikiya made me enjoyed it more
only real problem with 0 is how long it takes to get a mediocre style (dragon of dojima) and the lack of good counters other than the parry counter hook twist arm and demonfire
I remember I was bought Yakuza 8 or like a dragon whatever because my parents tonight "I could like it" then I discovered how much I liked these games and I also bought kiwami
As someone who has played these games since the 1st in 2005, for the most part I agree with your assessment. I still like y1's dub, maybe it's because it was the first game in the series and I played it when it came out. Also I loved Tanimura's fighting style, but Shinada was far superior.
Feedback from this video has exceeded expectations. This has motivated me to make more videos. The only thing is I don't shut up so future videos MAY BE A BIT LONG!

Definitely the best story of the bunch, I only have 0 above it right now because it had the gameplay to match (PS2 era still had problems, great at the time though).
How can you mark down Ishin for being in a language you don't understand? I mean you must have known that going into it?
PG Tips Because not everyone who plays the game will understand japanese and unlike Kenzan, its actually kinda hard to follow as the translation resources arent there. Besides, its just my opinion not an official government ranking!
obviously if you don't understand the story it's pretty much impossible to enjoy it as much as one you can
So then to be ethical, shouldn't you have omitted the game from the list since the language barrier is an issue on your part and not the game's?
i mean if you’re a westerner who doesn’t speak Japanese and you want to play the game, then it loses a lot of its value, I don’t fault him for this, more just a bad move on SEGA’s part for making it less accessible for the global community, just like phantasy star 2
@@MastaToken To be ethical? What? He can do whatever he wants, it's his list. Since this isn't a deep analytical video and is soley based off his opinion then he can do whatever.
Stopped watching at the moment you implied New Vegas was worse than 3.
Plague ridden rat Pretty certain I state in the video this is all my opinion. That includes my opinion on Fallout! :)
Guess your profile name is pretty accurate then eh?
Could say the same thing about yours.
It's really a toss-up between the two.
Pretty sure he was implying that NV didnt change much in terms of gameplay from 3.
Seriously, you don't need to feel sorry for having a personal opinion. Games are made for people. Not for game critics. If you enjoy it then say it. If not then say it.
Yakuza 0, the #1 reason i bought my Ps4.
Same. I bought every single Yakuza game as well.
And in the end they released it on PC :D

@Dutch Plan Der Linde Not really, already finished it by then.
@Dutch Plan Der Linde Yup, and the issue is?
I can’t think of many games where I just instantly had so much fun playing more than Yakuza 0 like you said the gameplay story and music is just so great.
3:20 "It is what Fallout New Vegas is to Fallout 3" and many people consider New Vegas the superior game
He was talking about gameplay wise. Is everyone in the comment section of this video really this braindead?
And by that I mean the changes in gameplay were very small. Not once did he say NV was an inferior game.
@@kaleocambra1643 someone gets it.
Ken Davis awesome rpg but not great(and optimised) as a game)
new vegas has the edge to fallout 3 in a multitude of ways.
being set in the west coast makes it the closest to classic fallout we can get of the modern-day bethesda fallouts.
the intro is a LOT friendlier with repeated playthroughs. fill out some forms and, the second you leave doc mitchells house the rest of the tutorial is 100% optional. hell, the entire game up to where you kill benny is optional on repeat playthroughs. you can just, go straight to new vegas and pump benny full of lead without even meeting with mr house first.
new vegas is a LOT less interested in wasting your time if youve already played before.
fallout 3? nuh-uh. you gotta re-live your childhood over and over if you start a new character. the intro of 3 is a lot slower. and, while for the first time it's great. repeat playthroughs just highlight how boring it is.
this is just one of many reasons why new vegas is better designed imo.
Yakuza is an amazing saga that deserves a lot of attention, the story is amazing and it has great characters, for example Majima who is my favorite.
4 is possibly the best, apart from Zero. It has the most detailed map of Kamurocho to explore with the rooftops and subways and it has the introduction of Akiyama.
John O'Loughlin Akiyama is awesome but game not even in top 3.0,5,6 and Kiwami 2.Maybe tie with Kiwami 1
That's how people typically get into game series, especially before the internet got so huge.
See it on shelf, go "let's try it", and boom. New fan.
"This guy, Majima"?
Have you no respect?
I'm honestly confused by the title, because it says: ''Ranking the Yakuza games from BEST to WORST.'' which means you're ranking the top 10 as the BEST and ranking the top 1 as the WORST! Just wanted to point that out.
Thank you for poiting this out. You were absolutely right about that. The title has been changed accordingly.
@@CaptScapegoat u didn't changed it yet 😒
"What Fallout New Vegas was to Fallout 3", you mean it was a masterpiece compared to a mid game.
yakuza 0 is the best game i have play and enjoy so far.. as like you say this game is masterpiece ..
im absolutely gonna get kiwami 1 and 2.
yakuza 0 is such a good first impression
An update to this list would be incredible.
Yakuza 4 on PS3 was my introduction to the series and I absolutely loved it.

Are you gonna redo this list now that 6, K1 and K2 are out in english? Will you wait until Judgement releases, or otherwise review that when it comes out? I'd really like to hear your opinion on this series more.
Yakuza 0 is the reason I like old Majima!!
Azra B. Metacritic agrees with you.Every new games are better than predecessor
Johan Öberg how Y2 can be top 1 if gameplay is average?Y1
7:50 what were the "disgusting" plot points the west wouldnt accept in kenza?
Matt Odlum Would like to know this aswell.
From doing a bit of research, i believe he's talking about a characters backstory involving child prostitution, but im still not sure.
Matt Odlum I suspected something like this since not to many themes get cut in the west and there are a handfull of japanes games who also have plot points involving children, like drakengard for example.
When are we getting a review of K2, 6, Judgment and Fist Of The North Star: Lost Paradise?
Yakuza kiwami 2 has just been announced to be released next year
now we're at yakuza 7 :O
It's a shame you didn't like Tanimura. He was one of my favorites. A lot better than Shinada.
Shinada felt like such a half assed character gameplay wise tanimura felt like he had alot more polish.
Too bad Tanimura's voice actor is getting replaced with the PS4 remaster. Kinda dumb considering its a remaster and not a remake like the Kiwami games.
Love this game! The first one I played was Kiwami but this is so much more in depth I think. Great reviews!
Summer Lopes Thanks for the feedback! :D
Good list - fuck knows where I'd put 2 but I think I disagree Goda and Sayama are such class introductions to the series, I miss them a wee bit. Also I choose to believe that Kiryu and Sayama were riding like mad.
i agree with most of these. also, i'm surprised as to how much i loved yakuza 0.
Yes i agree. Yakuza 6 really had something special innit
Nah. Zero is better.
0 is put onto the market after 4, so some of the stories are referenced to 4.
Why Majima lost an eye, why he was the club manager, why he could not leave Sotenbori, all related to the story of Saejima in 4.
0:02 Three months? Damn i just started Yakuza kiwami 2 after 6 months LMAO
Yakuza 2 being so low hurt my soul, I can't blame you for it due to your reasoning. Still though, you punch a tiger in the face!!!!
Well each game has that shit yourself moment. in 0 they had him shoot a rocket with a pistol. in 6 he shoots a helicopter with a rocket... those are the only ones I can think of right now.
It's been a while since then, I wonder if he's making good on the promise to make another ranking
I am loving each and every moment of yakuza0....it's fantastic
Is Kiwami in JP voices with eng subtitles? Or it is in garbage english? Also Nice list :) I am just playing Yakuza 5. Its my only game from the series so far I own :-D So far I am enjoying it :) I will buy probably the rest of the yakuza games on PS4 :)
Budliky CZ kiwami has japanese voices with English subtitles.
On Yakuza Kenzan: "there are plotpoints that wouldn't have been looked upon fondly" this has got my curiousity up way high and I'm kinda pissed he doesnt tell us what he means. Someone please clear me up to free my soul.
WhitemageJones he is probably talking about the child prostitution, that is a minor plot point in the game, but still, it’s pretty dark
watched this list and.... i don't mind your opinion it isn't the issue but most of the issues comes from the fact that most of your criticisms aren't really criticisms and more of a personal preferences, like it's not the games problem that you don't understand the native language or that the story didn't engage you because... unknown reasons
felt people would be more forgaving if you titled this vid "my top yakuza games" or "my ranking of the yakuza games" something to indicate that the video is highly subjective instead of actual critique and lisiting
well said.
I’ve never played a yakuza game before, would yakuza 0 be worth playing?
Yup

7. Yakuza 1/Kiwami
6. Yakuza 4
5. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
4. Yakuza 0
3. Yakuza 2/Kiwami 2
2. Yakuza 3

I don't think it's fair to put 1 and kiwami together. Unless you're talking about the story
@Dragon Of Dojima With an avatar picture like that, don't speak to me dick head.
as someone who recently jumped into the series due to xbox game pass, i absolutely fell in love with 0 and Kiwami. But as soon as i got to Kiwami 2, i just got instantly turned off. the combat, graphics, upgrades, mini map layout, etc. it just didnt sit right. i will roll with it and see if the story makes up for it, but im already missing the previous games a ton.
8:05 so your not gonna tell us what it is ??
I'm pretty sure it's 'Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin!'
Kiryu started from debt collector to an absolute legend
Interesting list. I don't know enough about the series to argue with any of your decisions, BUT I was disappointed that you gave the two Black Panthers the shaft. You branded the zombie game as "the worst game next to the PSP ones." Did you play either of them? I have the first Black Panther and I think they did a nice job with it. It's less crowd control and more one-on-one brawling, and it works fine for the format.
That's fair... I'm not really much for portable games at the moment.
Also, Yakuza 3 felt more of filler to me. Probably my least favorite so far.
yakuza 3 more like kindergarten simulator
Yakuza 2 at number nine , Lord have mercy.
I'm surprised about Yakuza 2 but hey it is what it is, other than that your list is pretty solid and I liked that you focused on the story of each one. (Then again which fan in this series wouldn't)
Yakuza 0 is my first and favorite game of the Series
To be honest when you hit B Majima rank in YK1, if you get the tiger drop for the dragon mode it’s makes the mid first game so much easier.
18:21 i am thinking the same thing
i know some basic japanese, and absolutely loved ishin. not my favorite game of the series, but really awesome as a whole
Stumbling upon your video late...
I agree with your list for the most part :
-You should have excluded spinoffs (Kenzan, Dead, Ishin)
-Yakuza 2 is soooo overrated (imo)
-The only flaw in Yakuza 0 is the repetitiveness of a certain boss in Kazuma campaign. Majima's one was way better
Why not update your list with Yakuza 6 et Kiwami 2 ?
I plan to in the future during this quarantine period. But just to quickly summarise, I would rate Kiwami 2 and 6 rather highly. I am just waiting to get my hands on the collection before I attempt to update the list.
Thanks for watching!
Am yakuza 2 ain’t that good but it’s good not horribly bad
What are the plot points that westerners would hate in Kenzan that you were talking about?
With the release of Kiwami 2 and the remasters of 3-5 along with 6, would this list get A revisit one day?
Yes, it will. :)
Personally:
1) Yakuza 0
2) Yakuza 5
3) Kiwami 1
4) Yakuza 4
5) Yakuza 3
6) Yakuza Kiwami 2
7) Yakuza 6
I love all of them, but the gameplay in 6 and Kiwami 2 is unforgivably bad.
I've nearly completed 0, so I'm going to complete the games in order. Quick question what's bad about the gameplay in Kiwami 2?

Well, I don't think there has been any word of remasters just yet sadly and even if they do, they may not come to PC. So it seems like the only way to play them, at least now is to get the PS3 out sadly :( It is worth it though trust me!

I'm playing kiwami right now it's amazing
Yakuza 1 is an nice game and brings the old memories back for me
Also in Kenzan what was frowned upon? I’m only 15 so I didn’t really understand
My best guess is child sex slaves
Just finished Yakuza 0 for the first time yesterday, and I loved it. It has one of the best stories I've ever played through I just downloaded Yakuza 6 and Yakuza Kiwami on Gamepass, but I going to wait a little while to play them. Even though the gameplay and story of Yakuza 0 were both great I can't sit through all of that subtitle reading again so soon. If they could do English voiceovers Yakuza would be one of my favorite franchises because it reminds me of beat em up games from my childhood in the late 80's and early 90's
Cut him some slack guys he said it’s his opinion not to offend and if you like those games it’s cool
The reason I like yakuza kiwami is because it's actually challenging, it's really frustrating but this just makes it better, I also love yakuza 0 (the best one in my opinion) the story is amazing and the music is really cool.
The down side to Yakuza 0 is that if you want to level up, you need to sacrifice a lot of in game cash
ishin is one my favorites but yeah, im a japanese history addict. (Meiji era is a treat to any rurouni kenshin fan)
of the main series, 4 was the one i liked most story wise, so much double crossing! hahaha
acully ishim would be the shogon era she is you watcher the ova'a of rurouni Kenshin trust and betray you see shogon wore the blue out fit and as the guy is in blue make him shogon
yeah, in true fact it goes around the very end of the edo period, but for me, what stands out most about the meiji period at all it's the initial phases, when the shogunate was just starting to fall apart, ishin shishi feeling was on the rise and all these revolutionaries clashed with these murderous shogunate police forces, even before the boshin war hahahah
and yeah, i watched that OVA, awesome!
so yakuza ishin is based just before/a while before the maji started attacking damm it saga bring it the west we can crowd fund it to pay for subtitles and english text boxes
TheFaithfulDragon do you have an idea about the plot points that westerners would hate in Kenzan that the narrator was talking about?
its about Kiryu and haruka/oharu possible romance in the plot, and her prostitution work at Tsuryua in Gion. but really, that's a historically accurate story element that no fan would really care about, only the hyper sensible ones, the media and ESRB. its a shame that only because of them the whole west got deprived of a great game and story in general. (i beat it with online english translation)
There's no actual scene of romance between them, but in the ending that gets very implied.
PS: haruka is underaged on this one.
Even with a different language I still could understand which in ishin character is which and even the plot just from the pictures.
Sorry dude, Yakuza 2 isn't anywhere even CLOSE to #9 gotta try that one again
It's his opinion, doooood....
Im ok with the list expect for putting 4 over 5?! I mean they have all the same amount of characters with haruka in 5 and the story i find a bit better in 5 and the final boss.
The finale of 4 was ridiculously silly imo, and 5's wasn't much better.

@ghostmurmur the individual stories in 5 are really good, I was just disappointed by the overarching plot. I loved Shinada (the baseball guy who replaced tanimura), I'll be curious to hear what you think.
Yakuza 0 is one of the best game of this generation....
Yakuza suffers from great fatigue if played too much. Playing alot of them in 3 months wrecks any rank order you've done :(
All the games are extremely similiar, you'll burn out eventually, you need to take breaks.
@@evzenvarga9707 rhats basically what i said lol
You should definitely do an updated rankings video now that Kiwami 1 & 2 and the HD Remasters for 3,4, & 5 are out!!!
wait where is the music playlist?
For me
Yakuza 0 (Raining Money, Bling, Flashy lights, Disco, Chicken Ceo)
Yakuza Kiwami 2 (2 had one of the best stories and now with that dragon engine)
Yakuza 5 (5 characters, 5 locations, 5x fun, tory is just a little messy)
Yakuza 6 (Dragon engine baby!)
Ishin (Just wish i knew how to read Japanese better)
Yakuza 4 (The plot has so many holes and really hurt the experience for me)
Yakuza Kiwami (Ehh was okay)
Haven't played the other Yakuza games
You did not like tanimura? I loved him his style was so different and unique from the rest of the fighters I guess cause I like disabling fighting styles arm bars disarms and stuff like that
Did you get the chance to play kiwami 2? If so what did you think?
Yakuza 2's story is widely considered to be the best in the series!
But eh... to each their own I suppose.
Though 3 had some questionable directions as well, Rikiya made me enjoyed it more
I got the whole collection for me birthday
only real problem with 0 is how long it takes to get a mediocre style (dragon of dojima) and the lack of good counters other than the parry counter hook twist arm and demonfire
I'm surprised to see Yakuza 5 so low on the list. It's my personal favourite, but to each their own, I guess.
PlotTwist For me it's Yakuza 5 > Yakuza 0 > Yakuza Ishin > Yakuza 4 > Yakuza 2 > Yakuza 3 > Yakuza 1
Yakuza 5 had the perfect balance of everything . Yakuza 0 had the best side stories in the franchise , and Ishin has the best gameplay
I agree Yakuza 5 and 0 are the best. Yakuza 6 is garbage compare to these two
Yakuza 5 is my favorite too.
5 > 0 > 2 > 1 > 3 > 4 > Dead Soul
I remember I was bought Yakuza 8 or like a dragon whatever because my parents tonight "I could like it" then I discovered how much I liked these games and I also bought kiwami
8 Releases in 2024 I think u mean 7
As someone who has played these games since the 1st in 2005, for the most part I agree with your assessment. I still like y1's dub, maybe it's because it was the first game in the series and I played it when it came out. Also I loved Tanimura's fighting style, but Shinada was far superior.
Kenneth Shiro I personally thought that the dub was unfairly panned in Yakuza 1. However, the Japanese dub was on point.
Yeah I really like Date's and Kazuma's voice actors.
Feedback from this video has exceeded expectations. This has motivated me to make more videos. The only thing is I don't shut up so future videos MAY BE A BIT LONG!
what was that "thing" in kenzan that the west would have frowned upon?
I just started 0. I’m pretty excited to get into the series
