  • We love putting our ‘Normals’ under pressure and throwing them into an Ultimate Battle. In this episode, we put them to the test by challenging them to create a fusion dish from two cuisines to see if their cooking can create the perfect marriage of flavours. Have a watch to see if they managed to pull it off!

    Pass It On: Fusion: The pass it on crew, after being ordered, picks a cuisine out of a hat. Then, when the third person in line comes in they have to pull another cuisine which to fuse with what is already present.
    The first two people would thus have no idea what to expect at the end.

      I have had amazing success with reducing the time to chop veggies like I would for a Creole sauce with a manual pull-cord chopper. It's not perfect with evenness, but...neither am I! And you have SO much more control over the size of the dice than with a food processor. Plus, it doubles as a storage container. (I swear I don't work for anyone who makes them or even work in a food-related industry, lol. I just have issues with chopping loads of veggies efficiently by hand and thought I'd share how awesome these things are! )

    I think this has been one of my favorite battles so far, if mostly for the way they all acted during the judging. The camaraderie and genuine desire to share what they’ve made and please their friends with their cooking reminds me a lot about the best relationships I’ve had with fellow line cooks. It’s an amazing feeling to impress a customer with a dish of yours, but impressing a fellow chef that you love and respect? Nothing beats that feeling.
    All of their battles are hilarious and fun to watch, but I love when they take a break every once in a while and genuinely compliment each other’s cooking. You can tell how much it means to them. I think it’s why Sorted has been my favorite food channel for years.

    • @Josheroo
      @Josheroo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I used to think this before Pass It On, and Without A Recipe became a series. I now believe that they have become better home cooks (as Oon-Hui Ng said) in so far as their palates, range of cooking techniques, and international cuisine knowledge, have drastically improved. They are great with recipes, but when it comes to the chefy side of things, time management, efficiency, dish creation, and flexibility, they are still most definitely "normals", albeit on the better-skilled and knowledgable side of normal. Perhaps "foodies", is now a better description.
      @Anomalousresult is correct, James is the development chef of Sorted and creates all of these recipes, with the boy's input. Judging their normalcy on the developmental skill of the recipes is an inferior metric because of this.

    I really appreciate the silliness and mistakes made in these videos - it's so good to see 'real' people attempting fancy food! Stray egg shells, stealing chips, dropping things...! It makes it seem like anyone could make the things you do, which for many will feel impossible. Great inspiration! Keep doing what you're doing!

    Those chips look delicious. Thievery is perfectly understandable.
    Think the English Moroccan fusion was easiest to achieve, in some ways. It looked impressive. Think Jamie's was relatively easy, but also looked like it tasted good. Pickling us an unusual talent, to me.
    That Barry pulled off what looked like an unlikely pairing of bread plate with meat and potatoes (to me) seemed harder and more impressive that it was lauded. Barry's was the surprise. I think Barry has unusual instincts that are underestimated. Fortunately Barry is affable and takes it in stride, generally. Barry at the end...

    I've missed these food battles! As much as I love the hilarity of the food review/ taste testing/ gadget testing videos, I feel like there's been less cooking/recipe videos lately? I really miss videos like cooking battles, mystery boxes and "3 Recipes Compared", just to name a few. Anyone else feel the same and would love to see more of those come back? :D

    I agree with the order. I genuinely thought Mike’s dish sounded the best when he described his idea at the start, so I was crossing my fingers for him all the way through. With Jamie’s dish - I’m really not sure about sushi rice with katsu. Wouldn’t have been my combination.
    I’d definitely love the recipes! I’m a great fan of fusion!
