Grace theWriter you definitely can! I raised my SAT from 1340 to 1520 this year and I was nervous af. Just try to chill today so tomorrow you are well rested
Thanks everyone!! I hope all of you did well. I think it went better than usual, on the science I understood more of the questions but I did run out of time, so I couldn’t answer most of the final passage 😬 but all in all if I can just get over 30 I’ll be content!
It's not so bad. Looks up "10 ACT math formulas you've never heard of" its like a list of 50 math formulas and its soooo helpful. I know its tomorrow but its good to glance at it!
I noticed most of the ACT test is essentially testing your reading and comprehending skills. My #1 tip for anyone taking the ACT test in the future is to focus on improving your reading speed and comprehension skills.
For number 58, I found a much easier method to be simply making up your own values for the variables and checking with the answer choices. So for example, let's make x=24, which would make t=2, u=4, and y=42. 24-42 = -18. We can then go along the answer choices and plug in our values for t and u and see if it would equal -18. If we use option F, it turns out as 9(2-4) = 9(-2)=-18, which is equal to what we found before. So you can choose option F. Of course, it's not the pure mathematical way of doing it, but it certainly saves a lot of time. This strategy of making your own values for variables and checking with the answer choices can apply to many different math section questions on the ACT, and is generally very helpful.
the way the supertutor did it was to explain it to students that dont know how to do the problem. tbh, the variable way is much quicker. this is how i did it 10t+u=x 10u+t=y 10t+u-10u-t =9t-9u =9(t-u) for me, this is way faster than making up values, then pluging them in
Actually, for the first question you do not need to know what a geometric series is because after finding the first term, you know the series is infinite hence the name an infinite geometric series. So it has to be less than 30 otherwise the series would not be infinite being just two terms 170 +30 =200. The only answer less than 30 is 25.5 so it has to be 25.5
I got a 18 my first time... I have already been accepted into my college of choice and all I want is a 26 or higher for scholarships... test is tomorrow
As a 50 year old man who never had a real math teacher in his life, I am being forced to learn everything I can about Mathematics before I take the Praxis Core Math Test. Praxis Core and ACT Math are generally the same, though some claim the ACT is more difficult. Anyway, you can imagine the struggle I am having, especially with graphing inequalities, doing inequalities, and inequalities altogether. I can get through the Geometry and Numeration problems, and some statistics, but the graphing is completely new to me, and I don't understand why we have to do that at all. Finally, I've just received my MA in Special Education, and why I have to learn this stuff is also beyond me. I'll never teach 90% of this to my SPED Students, and why I have to learn it seems ridiculous.. God help me, is all I can say.
I had an English teacher who was kinda the same way.. She was a veteran teacher for like 30 years, moved to a new state, had to do the licence for the new state and had to do that Praxis 1 or something. She passed, so not impossible. Not to take away from your story or anything. Im hoping to be a math teacher and I need a 25 at least for scholarships in my state.
I paused the video, read the question, selected my answer without watching you solve AND I GOT IT RIGHT I WAS SO SHOOK (I’m the worst at math) then I tried to do it with second one and I just went blank even after you explained it😭😂
Isabella Prada with the second one, just plug in two numbers for t and u, such as 1 and 2. So x will be 12 and y will be 21. 12-21 = -9. Now, plug in t=1 and u=2 into the answers and select the one that gives you -9. Boom simple.
Our school handed out official practice ACTs sent out by ACT and I actually found an error in the math section. I confirmed that it was wrong with multiple college professors so I contacted ACT about it multiple times, but after saying they'd look into it, they never got back to me.
I’m an 18 year old senior and I’ve taken the ACT 5 times. 😅 in order I’ve made a 17,17,18,17, and 18. It’s really frustrating making the same scores over and over again. Taking it again in April & really hoping for a higher score!
i’m taking it tomorrow for the third time. i got a 17 then a 19. didn’t study at all either time. not sure how i did better. just luck i guess. i’m trying to cram in studying and tips so i can hopefully get up to a 21 to get into college 🙃
I'm honestly terrified of the Math and Writing sections. I took the ACT in my sophomore year, when I was 14, and got a perfect score in Reading, a really high score in English, and a good score in Science, but I did terribly on Math and Writing. Hopefully prior experience, more preparation, and your videos can help this time.
5:00 "you're screwed" funny thing is I didn't know what it was but still got it right using logic. (often times you can work around things) So after getting A, the first term using relatively simple algebra, you get 170. After that if you think about it, the sum of an infinite series (infinite terms added) is 200 meaning the second digit must be less than than 30 so all the terms can add to 200. The only choice less than 30 is F:25.5.
I take the act tomorrow. I’m doing one day review before my first since it’s free. Then I’m retaking in April and studying for two months. I wanna get the feel and exposure to the test. I also just want to brush up before I go.
The first question is totally solvable without knowing the geometric series, if the sum in 200 then the 2nd term has to be less than 30 since the first term in 170, which leaves us with the only possible answer, 25.5
@@faridaamr7360 honestly every ACT test is the same. Once you do enough tests it just boils down to identifying what concepts a question is asking you about.

Act maths definitely more harder, on my sat math I scored a 790 with barely any practice but when I first started practicing for act math, I got under 30s on math. It took me a while to get a hang of it.
It's because ACT math tests your critical thinking skills more. SAT math usually has simpler questions. I did the PSAT math and nearly got a perfect score (I only missed one question) but ACT math I got a 31 , but I missed 9 questions. That was when I was in 10th grade
@@lefthanded5473 I guess it depends on how you define "straight forward". The ACT in my opinion is very straight forward - 60 questions, 60 minutes. In my experience at least, SAT math is mostly "solve for x" type questions, which can be difficult, but I feel that ACT math tests a wider range of concepts and better tests your ability to think critically about a given situation. I also think that 60 minutes is actually little generous, considering the questions are pretty short and most only take about 30 seconds.

I'm a sophomore in hs and my goal is to get above a 30 on the act preferably a 35 so I'm studying for it now and doing practice questions everyday until the act (if I can)
Hassan Muse so youre looking for x - y. x = 10t + u, and y = 10u + t. so, you would set that up as (10t + u) - (10u + t). now just subtract the t from 10t and the u from 10u, getting 9t - 9u. Factor out the 9 and get your answer.
the second one could just be trial and error, take for example 14; you'd do 14-41=27 and just start plugging numbers in and find the first one fits it: 9*(1-4)
By trying to get 10 extra points on the ACT Math from the last ten questions, you should be golden when it comes to proper college math placement, as many colleges use the ACT Math score to determine course placement without having to go through placement tests or CLEP
I'm good at math but on the last ACT I took my calculator was in the wrong mode for the entire test where it needed it cause I forgot to change it. (I think it was in degrees when I needed radians)
I study in India and am preparing for JEE mains and advanced.I saw this video for hard problems instead they are the ones i solved in my head and i will be very lucky that this questions come in exams
I got confused on problem #58 where it talks about Arithmetic Sequence. Can you tell me how you were able to get (10t - u) by just using the equation 3 x 10 + 5?
This isn't related to the ACT, but can you make a video on the SAT Chem and Bio (E/M) Subject Tests? Like tips, top need to knows, how to study for it, etc. I've taken college-leveled Intro to Chem and General Chem already if that helps. Pls comment if any of you guys have tips (especially for Chem subject test).
Erika W I took both and earned scores in the 600s. I took dual enrollment bio and chem, but I never took AP. If your classes are college level general chem or bio, it probably won't be enough for the subject tests. The content on the tests are closer to the AP exam from what I've heard. If you're taking multiple subject tests, you could go for the official college board subject test book. It has an official practice test for each subject test. I'd also recommend the Barron's review books, those are great for these tests. If you're taking the December SAT, start studying now if you can. I only gave myself a week to study for either test, and though my scores are decent, they're not great. Competitive schools like MIT will accept scores in the 600s, but they generally expect a 700 or higher. Summary and extra tips: Subject tests are like AP tests, not dual enrollment finals Get test prep books (Barron's or college board) or use free online practice tests Study as soon as you can, try to start at least 3 weeks in advance Get used to the subject test scantron (especially for chem and bio) Time yourself (the tests aren't as rushed as ACT math, but you still need good pacing DON'T GUESS! Well, you can... but these tests are like the old SAT, so a wrong answer will deduct a quarter point from your raw score. If you can't narrow the answers for a question down, skip it Good Luck!
Hi, Brooke! I took the new SAT and got a perfect score after watching many of your videos. Can you do video about the SAT Subject Test Math II section?? I know you already did a few, but any new material coming from you would be incredibly helpful! Thanks
PIYUSH ANAND what is your current range of scoring in the Math section? If you're at 700+ now you definitely have a shot of getting a 800. Also, are you good in Math, in general? I'm actually the Brazilian Champion in some math international competitions (i.e. I won the Asia International Math Olympiad Final this year). But in my perspective, if you have a good base in Math, you surely can get a perfect score. I'd recommend you to understand what kinds of questions are in the SAT. The test is pretty predictable, so by just using Khan Academy (make sure you practice at least 3 sets of each topic) I believe you can get there. And make sure you took all of the eight official practice tests available and know to solve every question. I personally missed a few on the first Practice Test, but at about the third one I was usually getting all of them right. Hope this could help you, and if you have any doubts about it just let me know!
David W- I am good at maths, I have given 4 official test and got score of 800, the only problem I am facing is in English. I run out of time in critical Reading section and none of my strategy work in the writing section. If I read the whole passage in writing section I lose time and if I just read the sentence, then I make mistakes in arranging the paragraph questions and in the idea that next follows questions. What should I do to time myself? And which books to study from?
PIYUSH ANAND I was exactly in your situation before taking the October SAT. If you are constantly getting 800 in math in your practice tests you will likely get a perfect score on the real test, just make sure you spare some minutes at the end to review your answers. I'm also not very good in critical reading, but I can say the most important thing is finish in time. Don't spend more than a minute in one question. If you're stuck, choose an answer and move on. Maybe you can come back at it later (but probably not). It's ok to miss a few, you will "compensate" with your math score. About the Writing section, I'm actually pretty good (miss just 2 on my exam). Try to grasp the main ideas of each paragraph and also highlight the subject of the sentences that are questioned about. By using this strategy, I was able to improve my EBRW score from 630 to 720. A bought some prep books but I found my self learning more on Khan Academy. Practice all available reading sets, and try to pace yourself. I think that's about it
I'm taking mine tomorrow. I dropped out of high school in 9th grade because of personal issues and got my GED. I never learned anything after 9th, I don't remember how to do anything, I haven't studied, and I'm taking my test tomorrow. You'll do fine :) (or you probably did fine if you took it).
I found these so easy, but I am not from the US so it might be due to the different curriculum and syllabus, these things were taught in my country in 8th grade early 9th grade so yea....
Around here, as in America, it's all about SPORTS! We focus more on Sports than anything else. Forget academics, it's all about Sports! Or, we push minority groups on through, just so they can feel accomplished in Mathematics or anything else. We have a lot to learn about Education in America.
You should go through and randomly put your answers when you’re running out of time! The end questions are harder. If you get a question wrong it doesn’t count off as anything but randomly checking you have a 20% chance of getting it tight
It's a similar test made by a competing company. Which test you do usually depends on where in the United States you live, unless you live in a different country where you will likely always do the SAT.

So for example, let's make x=24, which would make t=2, u=4, and y=42. 24-42 = -18. We can then go along the answer choices and plug in our values for t and u and see if it would equal -18. Are you taking it tomorrom?
yes but I did not study :/
I am horrible with math and I'm taking the ACT tomorrow. Wish me luck because I am going to have to rely on it.
TheAnimeAddict im in the same boat except im studying the morning of lol. Howd it go partner?
how'd you do
How’d it go??
Wait 9:10 where did you get the 9 from??
Hassan Muse so youre looking for x - y. x = 10t + u, and y = 10u + t. so, you would set that up as (10t + u) - (10u + t). now just subtract the t from 10t and the u from 10u, getting 9t - 9u. Factor out the 9 and get your answer.
why did she use the one with parentheses?
I'm taking the ACT tomorrow in February 20, 2019.
Panda same! I’m nervous 😬
the second one could just be trial and error, take for example 14; you'd do 14-41=27 and just start plugging numbers in and find the first one fits it: 9*(1-4)
Thanks I had a hard time understanding when the teacher was explaining
Where did she get the 9t-9u from? Everytuing was 10
Quick question that first question said the sum of a given... Shouldnt you be adding something as sum means 2 things added equal that
By trying to get 10 extra points on the ACT Math from the last ten questions, you should be golden when it comes to proper college math placement, as many colleges use the ACT Math score to determine course placement without having to go through placement tests or CLEP
I'm good at math but on the last ACT I took my calculator was in the wrong mode for the entire test where it needed it cause I forgot to change it. (I think it was in degrees when I needed radians)
I’m in nine grade and I’m about to take the test .We are forced to get at least a 35 to stay in a college program in my school.
As a ninth grader? When you haven't taken any of the math or science courses required to at least do well? Good luck with that. lmao
I study in India and am preparing for JEE mains and advanced.I saw this video for hard problems instead they are the ones i solved in my head and i will be very lucky that this questions come in exams
Gauravsingh Sisodia 😂
Good for you. No matter how smart your country is you still are one of the poorest most incompetently ran countries in the world.
I couldn't take the ACT junior year due to covid 😒. Taking it tomorrow
I take it tomorrow its 12am help
zachisaloser omg same!!!
I got confused on problem #58 where it talks about Arithmetic Sequence. Can you tell me how you were able to get (10t - u) by just using the equation 3 x 10 + 5?
3=t 5= u plug in t and u and it's plus not minus
thank you so much i was trying to find this vid since i watched it last year. but i ended up getting 34!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do you change your name in your ACT profile
Summary and extra tips:
Subject tests are like AP tests, not dual enrollment finals
Get test prep books (Barron's or college board) or use free online practice tests
Study as soon as you can, try to start at least 3 weeks in advance
Get used to the subject test scantron (especially for chem and bio)
Time yourself (the tests aren't as rushed as ACT math, but you still need good pacing
DON'T GUESS! Well, you can... but these tests are like the old SAT, so a wrong answer will deduct a quarter point from your raw score. If you can't narrow the answers for a question down, skip it
Good Luck!
Hi, Brooke! I took the new SAT and got a perfect score after watching many of your videos. Can you do video about the SAT Subject Test Math II section?? I know you already did a few, but any new material coming from you would be incredibly helpful! Thanks
David W- can you shed some light on how to get a perfect sat score, mine is on 2nd December. It will be a big help
David W Good job, man.
I think that's about it
Taking it February 9th hoping for a 30🤞🏽
I haven’t even taken pre algebra
Taking the ACT tomorrow ….I'm stressing !!!!!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow is my first time testing it wish me good luck🙏🏼
do the sat have a essay please
Practice with the first 10-15 problems on an AMC 10 or an AMC 12 (contest math tests)- If you get good at those problems these will be easy.
this is a great channel. great work brook
Oh yea, I’m definitely taking it soon. I’m taking it tomorrow! Ahhh
Diana Salinas same
How do you find these practice test?
got 24 on my previous two tests and about to take my fourth one tmrw. my goal is a 27! wish me luck please ^^
I got a 32 with a 34 on the math. My science was bad though.... got to bring it up!
taking my first act tmrw! wish me luckk
how was it?
How was it ? ??!
I didn't understand #58 at all
Meow Gaetan same here 💀
I hope I get a score of 30, but probably not I'm slow at things like I take my time, that I need to learn how to do
I’m so happy I took higher math like pre-cal and calculus, I know this stuff!
ACT tmr time to cram😩
Taking mine next month super nervohs
I'm taking mine tomorrow. I dropped out of high school in 9th grade because of personal issues and got my GED. I never learned anything after 9th, I don't remember how to do anything, I haven't studied, and I'm taking my test tomorrow. You'll do fine :) (or you probably did fine if you took it).
Also it's been 2 years since then.
7:56 I paused the video before she started the problem to try to work out the answer, and the sample number I used was 35 o_O

Studying for October 28 😥😯Will come back for my score. My goal is 34.
Best of luck! I’m shooting for a 34 as well
@@haley7642 thank you! You too!
Up at 11 even though i should be resting. Shooting for a 28 (I'm dumb)
what did you get?
Anyone else taking it tomorrow
PBA i am😭
meee🤞🙏🙏🙏
Meee 🙏😩
that was a stupid test lmaooo C03
I'm in AP Calculus and the ACT has math questions I've never even seen.
Im in the same boat as you. I wish the ACT had some calculus problems instead of those sequence problems.
I found these so easy, but I am not from the US so it might be due to the different curriculum and syllabus, these things were taught in my country in 8th grade early 9th grade so yea....
Is anyone else good at the math and science but struggling with both ELAs :(
I'm 16 and from the UK and got both of them in less than a half minute each. What do they teach in America exactly?
Around here, as in America, it's all about SPORTS! We focus more on Sports than anything else. Forget academics, it's all about Sports! Or, we push minority groups on through, just so they can feel accomplished in Mathematics or anything else. We have a lot to learn about Education in America.
Yeh I agree. The fact that these are challenging questions for 17 year old Americans really says something about your education system.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!
Yw!
Can you do the same for SAT? Thanks!
I usually get in the range 52 to 58 because of the stupid time 😢
You should go through and randomly put your answers when you’re running out of time! The end questions are harder. If you get a question wrong it doesn’t count off as anything but randomly checking you have a 20% chance of getting it tight
anybody know of videos like this for the sat???
But I've never learned any of this..
What is an act because I'm taking the sat when I get to high school
It's a similar test made by a competing company. Which test you do usually depends on where in the United States you live, unless you live in a different country where you will likely always do the SAT.
Btw yall sum of geometric sequences will show up again in calc 2 lola
I am always screwed...unless someone above help me
I am a 7th grader taking Algebra so I know simple formulas like m=y2-y1/x2-x1 or y=mx+b but everything else, I have no idea and I'm scared. Any tips for younger ones?
just try your best. i did the same as you, little to no math knowledge with only simple algebra and got a 27, so I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!
Thank you so much.
I’m a seventh grader, going to take it in the eighth grade, so I’m stressing and learning as much math science and ELA/ writing as possible, also, how did you do, because the average score is 10 for a seventh grader
I took in February 2019 these were on there!
FEBRUARY 8TH GANG
I am going to straight up cry ahaha
Yea this is terrible😂ima fail bad
Go to bed guys, this test is designed to trick you, and if your tired that's only gonna help it
Mr. T Fucking hell. There’s some several math or science portion that I don’t get at all.
@@Soulify Filter through the bs and find out what they're asking you. Lowkey its usually just what's the difference between this rock and that rock. It's not a test of what you know it's a test of how well you can read
I wish I had seen this before I took the ACT...
Saturday ☺️
holy shit helped so much and i havent learned any of this (sophomore), but somehow this was super easy to understand. taking ACT tomorrow tho... lol uh oh
Thank you!
I meet you in Glasgow.
Hmmm, that's odd because I've never been to Glasgow.
